If anyone has been following my son’s challenging move to Kansas then you will be happy to know that he is finally IN Kansas. His car stayed at the dealership in Albuquerque and will hopefully be delivered to him soon. We were all so grateful that my friends were able to help him out while there.
The pup and I are partial to morning walks but lately it’s been a little warm and she has been fussy. Honestly, I have been too. You wake up, get dressed, do the hair and then as soon as I step outside my hair turns into a frizzy disaster. It’s been a little humid for us. Anyway, so now and then we do an evening walk and if we are lucky, we are rewarded with a skyline like the one you see above.
I am nearly through with Count the Ways by Joyce Maynard. It’s very good. Even with all the stress from my son’s move, I’ve managed to sit down with it and it’s been a treat to take my mind off of real life even if only for a little while. What Comes After is next on my list officially but my library hold for The Paper Palace came in and I am much more in the mood to read that.
I have to say something about vaccinations. Here, in California it seems like we are headed for another lockdown. For ten days in a row, LA County has had more than 1000 positive cases of the Delta variant and according to the article I read, 99% of those are unvaccinated people. If you don’t want to vaccinate, that is your choice. But do not blame the new mask mandate, or the looming shutdowns on the recall election coming up for our governor, or the government trying to control us by injecting chips into us. It’s nonsense. If you don’t want to vaccinate, don’t but leave it at that. Don’t call the vaccinated “sheep” just move on and it would be great if you waived medical services once you come down with it.
I received a travel advisory about quarantine for my upcoming flight. Restaurants, who just removed their outdoor dining spaces are now adding them back. We are going backward and it’s super frustrating.

I hear you on the frustration. I just can’t take it anymore. I get that they have a choice but if they don’t want to be seriously ill and possibly die and take others with them, they may want to rethink why they don’t want the vaccine. It is not a political issue. It is a health issue.
Viruses replicate and change, if we don’t protect ourselves with a vaccine, more virulent strains are coming…vaccines slow their evolution… (off the soapbox)
I am so glad your son made it to KS! I hope he is enjoying his new job and that he’ll be able to help you with your daughter’s move to college. That’s coming so quickly!
California is doing everything it can to encourage people to get the vaccine but they won’t. Why? Because they don’t want to. Period. At least admit that that is why we are headed for another shutdown. Many here claim it’s to keep people home and away from voting our governor out. Ridiculous. There is this thing called an absentee ballot but they assume it’s cheating, as you know.
So happy your son made it to Kansas and so lucky that you had friends in NM who could help out. I feel so frustrated by what is going on at the hands on these anti-vaxers. I fear the school year, at least in states that won’t require masks, will end up in disaster. I love that skyline shot so pretty.
Hoping your are loving Count the Ways and I’m waiting for my hold for The Paper Palace as well. I’m always drawn to a Cape Cod setting and this story just sounds so good…enjoy
It’s been a long time since I’ve read a book and literally lapped up every line. That is what I am doing with Count The Ways. It’s so good. It’s about family and motherhood and letting your kids go so it’s a very timely read for me. I am going to have to find myself a hard copy to own once I am done with this ebook.
If this anti-vax nonsense continues and it affects the move-in, or the semester for my daughter AFTER we’ve gone to the trouble to get there, I will not be happy at all.
I’m putting Count The Ways on my list. Sounds good. Glad your son made it to Kansas. So sorry about this car troubles in NM, but glad he had help. Hope that all this doesn’t mess with your flights and moving your daughter to her college situation. Take care and pretty shot of the horizon.

I don’t even know what to say about the pandemic anymore. We’re spiking here in AZ too. At the beginning of the year, I figured that just getting people the vaccine would be the biggest problem, not that half the people wouldn’t want a safe, effective way to not get sick, not get others sick, chuck the masks, and get back to “normal.” Ah, well.
I agree that the reversal in the COVID trend is frustrating. Those of us who are sane and getting vaccinated are having to pay for the crazies (I am not counting those that cannot medically get the vaccination). What happened to being community-minded and caring about others?! Ugh. I could go on and on about this!
I’m glad to hear your son finally made it to Kansas, and am sure he acquired a few stories to tell on that journey! Your frustration with this whole coronavirus comes through loud and clear, and so many of us share it. Numbers are rising so quickly in FL now it scares me… glad to be in CT for a while. I’m worried about those who cannot get vaccinated for medical reasons, the immunocompromised, and all the kids not yet eligible. I’m afraid it could be another tough school year.

I was delighted to see some influential former anti-vaxxers start (finally!) encouraging the unvaccinated to get vaccinated. I can’t remember when I have felt this frustrated with human beings (well, maybe during the last elections…)

I’m happy to read that you are enjoying Joyce Maynard’s latest novel. I’m eager to get a copy, but I think I’ll wait until it comes out in paperback. I have SO many other books that I want to read this year… The Paper Palace sounds very good, too.
I’m very frustrated about the non-vaccinated situation and the Delta variant. I read today that L.A. County had more than 3,000 new daily cases. This is so unnecessary and preventable! We’re driving to Nashville in September and I’m feeling nervous even though we’ve been vaccinated. 😦
