ColombiaHello! This is my first Whatnot post of the year. I just couldn’t get my act together to do one last week. I tried to enjoy my last week of vacation and in doing so became a slug. It felt good.

Hey, why do I have an image of Colombia in this post? It occurred to me that I never told you about the child we sponsor through Compassion International. A few years ago my church placed photo cards all around the church of children who needed a sponsor. In the back of my mind I always wondered about it but never actually signed up to do it. Well, three years ago we did and it’s been a rewarding experience. I didn’t realize just how much until we received a Christmas letter from her and this time she actually wrote it herself. Since she was pretty young, she would say what she wanted to say to a translator and then they would translate it to be sent. This time, she actually wrote it in her native language and she did such a good job! She is turning 9 this February. It’s been interesting to read how her country is handling the virus. Very different from here. If any of you have questions about sponsoring, ask away.

In other news, this is my daughter’s last week home. She leaves this Sunday bright and early. It has been a good visit. We plan to take her out to dinner Saturday night, her choice. She has been busy auditioning for summer shows. The other day she had her backdrop up and it was blocking The Otter Pup’s sunny spot so I heard this ruckus and then when I went up the pup had knocked it down and broken some blinds in the process. She doesn’t mess around when it comes to her sun bathing.

My reading is going well but the one book I am reading now is very enjoyable so I keep rationing it out so I can read it each night. I did manage to review a book on Monday though.

After another blogger mentioned reading the Bible in a year, I decided to read it again. I did it a couple of years ago but this time I have more insight and frankly, more motivation to do it again. So I pulled out all my fancy pens and started on 1/1.

I hope you have a good week. The numbers here in LA County are pretty steady at 45K+ positives DAILY. They say that one in four people test positive. I am double-masking and mostly home but do have to venture out now and then. Stay safe!

Chloe and her red blanket.Hello and good morning. We are getting a little bit of rain and cooler weather here in Southern California which is a very good thing. The pup loves to snuggle up with her blanket on days like this.

As you know, my daughter is home and my son comes in on Christmas Eve. The plan is to pick him up from the airport and then head directly over to my MIL’s house for dinner. We don’t have firm plans for the week but we hope to put something together soon. Omicron is rearing its head everywhere. Closures announced daily. I feel that a shutdown is imminent and I hope flights are not affected this time around. It’s hard to plan for things. We saw Hamilton and The Band’s Visit recently and I kept checking for cancellation notices as some shows were cancelled due to COVID. We were lucky. My kids want my husband and I see see Spiderman before the theaters shutdown again. Maybe we can fit that in this weekend but I’m not sure I want to be in a sold out theater right now.

I made the mistake of scheduling a bunch of appointments this week. I don’t know why I do this. It’s my vacation. After Thursday the appointments will be over for awhile although I was told yesterday that I have to have surgery, TWO surgeries to address the problems with my kidneys. Yes, both of them. I was not expecting that. First surgery is in February.

I’m ready to just relax and have fun. We decided to eat out on Christmas. I always cook but the idea of shopping for groceries was too much so we will eat out and it will be good. I will make breakfast and then we will head out to an early dinner.

How is your reading going? I am trying to finish one more book and then I am calling it a year. For those who celebrate Christmas, Merry Christmas to you! It’s almost here!
