Missouri State

It’s happening. This Saturday The Girl flies back to Missouri to begin her sophomore year in the Musical Theatre program at Missouri State. She has a sweet four-bedroom apartment right across the street and will be sharing it with three of her classmates. They moved in this week so she has been feeling FOMO over not being a part of the move-in but her turn is coming up quickly. She is very excited about having a bathroom and a kitchen!

Tonight, student ministry has a team night so there will be yummy food, games and all sorts of fun for the team. I am really looking forward to getting together before our fall kickoff.

Still reading Irving’s The Last Chairlift. It’s so good. Because it’s so long, I will be reading Verity alongside it just so I can get some books reviewed soon.

I thought Los Angeles was headed for another mask mandate but  our COVID numbers have gone down so that has been cancelled. However, California declared a state of emergency for Monkeypox now. Can we get through one pandemic without adding another? I know Governors declare a State of Emergency to gain access to federal funding but the numbers really have grown in this state. I am heading back to work on Tuesday but will I be sent back home to work in a month or two? We’ve been here before.

My son is doing well. He finally has some furniture but his couch was not shipped all together so he only has one part of it. The cat is very happy to have a fan now. Washington does not typically have AC so it’s been about 90 in the apartment and Root Beer has been very chatty about having to endure such heat.

Here she is enjoying the car’s AC:

Now that we are in August I am hoping our temps don’t skyrocket to 110+. So far it’s been very nice. Only 97 or so with some humidity. All the students around here are preparing for Back to School. Most here start on August 9th. I do enjoy seeing all the back to school displays at the store but I won’t lie. It’s nice to not have to be shopping it after all those years doing so.

That’s all I have. I hope you all have a great, rest of the week. Do something fun this weekend. I have a leadership conference to attend on Saturday after dropping the kid off at the airport and then student ministry as usual but maybe I can fit something in after the conference.

Sunday Matters: I Am Feeling ALL the Things

sunday-matters (1)Hello, friends. Once again it is Sunday and I am feeling all the things.

  • The Girl heads back to Missouri State on 8/6.
  • I head back to in-person work on 8/9.
  • Student ministry is about to kick off a new season. New students, new pastor, new volunteers!

The planner that has mostly sat empty all year is now filling up with special dates and events. It makes me a bit twitchy. You will be proud of me though. I will NEVER go back to how it was before the shutdown. I limit myself to only a few appointments a week now and if it doesn’t fit into that rule then it’s re-booked or not booked at all.

Right Now:

Enjoying some coffee while watching the morning news and then I am off to student ministry. It will be a busy day.

Reading:

Still reading The Last Chairlift. I am really liking it. Trying to pick up my pace a little so that I can read other books along with it but so far it’s my main squeeze.

Watching:

We settled on a new Korean show to watch. Sisyphus. It’s about time travel and there is a lot of action. Good acting. Very entertaining.

Grateful for:

  • Friends who can tell when something is a little bit off with me, and reach out. I had an off week. One of those weeks where you just wonder “Why?” and no less than three people noticed it and reached out. What a difference that made. Thank you.
  • Venmo. It’s the preferred method of payment for my daughter’s new apartment and it just makes things much easier for this mama.

Have a great Sunday! Try to do something fun today even if that is hanging out on the porch with your new read.
