The Short of It:

Lots of hype over this book!! Turned down 41 times before getting published, I can happily tell you that it’s the page turner you want right now.

The Rest of It:

There are 143 passengers on board headed to New York. What they don’t know is that their pilot’s family has been kidnapped and unless he brings the plane down according to the orders he’s been given, his wife and two children will be killed.

Captain Bill Hoffman decides right then and there, that they will NOT kill his family and he will NOT crash the plane. Although he’s told not to alert his crew, he doesn’t see how it can be avoided. He owes it to the passengers to have every chance at survival that they can have.

What a ride.

What you will notice right away is that there is an air of authenticity to the story and that’s probably because T.J. Newman spent years as a flight attendant. The attention to detail puts the reader right on the plane with those passengers. You are in the galley, in the jump seat, scrambling through the cabin trying to save lives. It’s riveting.

Some of the story may not seem plausible but at the same time, given limited means, it’s what the average person would do in that same situation. The last quarter of the book gave me high blood pressure and I could not put it down.

This is what you want in a thriller. Characters you care about, a fast pace, a seemingly impossible situation. It’s good. Throw this in your beach bag and you won’t leave the beach until you’ve turned the last page.

Sunday Matters: Summer Is In Full Swing

Sunday Matters

Good morning! I took this past Thursday off for my daughter’s online college registration and it threw me off. Totally forgot what day it was. She ended up not needing me at all but it was nice to take a day off. I have Monday off too because I have a lot of vacation time to use up before the end of the year. Needless to say I am typing up this post right now and that’s why it’s late today.

It was 106 here yesterday so the Hub, the Pup, and I took off for the harbor. We had a nice lunch seaside and discovered at 11 years of age that the pup likes cod. Plus, she used all her puppy manners with the other dogs too. I think she was just happy to be on a long walk in cooler weather. It was only 72 degrees there.

Right Now:

I am enjoying some coffee with this coconut whipped cream that my son likes. It’s pretty darn good. We are watching the Branson space launch newscast right now. If only these millionaires could use their wealth for the homeless.

Later, hopefully, a trip to one of my fave indie bookstores and then tacos for my son. He has requested tacos before he leaves this Thursday.

This Week:

With tomorrow off, my son and I are heading to a NEW indie bookstore I learned about recently. We will grab lunch too. We wanted to hit the botanical garden but that is not enjoyable when it’s 105 degrees out.

This coming Saturday my own dental office got my daughter a Saturday appointment so she can get a visit in before she leaves for school. Her own dentist doesn’t have flexible appointments so it’s time to switch. That term Adulting keeps coming to mind.

Reading:

I am finishing up Shoulder Season. I think Count The Ways by Joyce Maynard will be next.

Watching:

I finished Ryan Murphy’s Hollywood on Netflix. It was really good. Looking forward to American Horror Stories which starts on 7/15 and then of course the actual American Horror Story: Double Feature which begins later this year.

Grateful for:

  • I am feeling pretty good after yesterday’s pleasant visit to the harbor. It was a really nice day and the pup was in heaven. I think we need to take more road trips to the harbor/beach. I’ve not been to the beach once this summer. So grateful for that pleasant day.

How are you all doing? I am getting a little nervous about the Delta variant. More cases discovered in California. Of course, I am worried about how it will impact the college move-in process. Hopefully, not at all. The university sent an email saying vaccination or a negative test will be required for check-in. We are fully vaccinated so we are good there.
