It’s in the shadows but what I circled there is the Little Library that is in my neighborhood. The one that I walk by daily. It doesn’t appear that the new owners of that house have any interest in it but the neighborhood continues to add books to it. The books I’ve added seem to go quickly. That gives me great satisfaction. I would like to own one of my own. I have a great location for it. Maybe, someday.
Don’t let the bright blue sky fool you. It’s chilly and crisp. Very nice by mid-afternoon. I had to get out of the house for some filming, not for auditions but for school and so I sat on a wall out back with my book for a little bit and it was so nice! I’ve been doing my best to up my vitamin D levels naturally because supplements do not work for me. I think I am doing pretty well because I’ve been sleeping a lot better.
Spring break. What’s that? Between my son’s schedule, my daughter’s and my own campus, I can’t even tell you when it is. I know it’s not in sync which is probably why I didn’t bother to pay much attention to it. My son is going to meet us at a halfway point one day soon. We will bring the pup and grab food somewhere and just spend part of the day with him. With his work schedule he can’t do much more than that. So, no break plans but maybe we will try to do something for Memorial Day. It will be here before we know it!
This past Monday I reviewed Murakami’s new collection of stories, First Person Singular so check it out if you have any interest. I just finished Watching You by Lisa Jewell. That woman does not disappoint. The review will be up very soon. Now, I am picking up Andrew McCarthy’s memoir, Brat: An 80’s Story. I am an 80’s kid but who doesn’t remember all of those brat pack movies like Sixteen Candles or Pretty in Pink? SO iconic. Funny, when I mentioned the review copy on Facebook everyone gushed about Mannequin! I love that movie too. My favorite McCarthy movie is Less Than Zero. SO dark but so good with Robert Downey Jr., Jami Gertz and James Spader.

We’ve had super warm weather here, seems like you have ours! It was nearly 70 here yesterday and today is supposed to be 73.
I haven’t read much but that’s my daughter’s weekend that interfered with any reading I planned. LOL But it’s definitely a good disruption to have fun with her. Lately there have been too many arguments — virtual school. ugh.
I hope all is well with you for the rest of the week. I’ve been watching the Equalizer with Queen Latifah, and I have a feeling it’s just because I love her.
I finished BRAT and I will be singing its praises for weeks to come. The review posts on Monday. It was so good. Much more than you would expect but still includes the stuff you expect, you know? Deep. A lot deeper than you think.
I love those Little Free libraries. There was one near my daughter and whenever I visited I leave books or take a few:) Hope you have a nice visit with your son soon. Growing up in the 80s you might enjoy: We Run the Tides, V. Vida.

I try to straighten and sort the little library whenever I stop by. It was in better shape the last time I dropped a book off. It’s interesting to see what ends up in there. Not a lot of fiction which is why I think my donations go quickly.
Little Free Library – how cool! Wish I had one near where I live, but doesn’t seem like anyone reads around here. Oh well. As for the Murakami, I need to get a copy when it comes out. I’ve read some of the stories already, so I’m excited to re-read them and read the new-to-me ones. Anything by Murakami is a must-read – he’s in my top three 🙂 Enjoy your visit with your son – can’t believe it’s already spring break. I love Less Than Zero – the book and the film – sooo good! I have Andrew McCarthy’s book on preorder..won’t come until May. If you don’t like it I will be so sad! He will always be “Blane” (sp?) to me!
One of the first things we were advised to do when we moved to Oregon was to start taking vitamin D. Our winter months are very rainy and we can go weeks without seeing the sun, so we followed that advice very seriously. We’re doling ok, as far as our lab results indicate, but I’m always very happy when we start seeing more sunshine. It was 35 this morning, but the sun is out so I’ll head out for a walk in a little bit. Glad you get to meet up with your son. We’re both getting our first jabs this Friday, so we’re excited!
I am excited that you are both getting your jabs this Friday. I must wait for 4/6 but it will be a long time before my husband or daughter can get theirs, which seems a little silly. I would like the household to be safe and she heads back to school 3/29, so they say.
I think I have problems with all supplements because of my Celiac. It caused a lot of absorption issues for me with iron and pretty much anything I ingest. When they had me on D I had to take 50K units a week for many months. Now, I take a little every day. I think it does help if I stay on top of it. I always like Oregon would be my kind of place because I love cloudy and cozy and rainy but I bet I would have problems living there long term.
I’ll echo Diane’s recommendation of We Run the Tides. I enjoyed it very much, too! I love the Little Free Libraries, but don’t think there are NY round here.
My husband built me a Little Free Library in 2012, and in 2014 I won a grant from my school district to build five more. I love to sit on my front porch swing and see who stops by.
I’m not sure if I am going to read Murakami’s new collection or not. I found I needed to retreat back into comfort reads after the governor opened up our state completely, so I’ve so aside most of what I’d planned to read to focus on some gentle books.
I know how you feel, Deb. Our governor opened up the state 100% as of last Wednesday. It’s upsetting because we certainly have fewer cases but only about 10% of the state population has been fully vaccinated. It’s really not the time to throw open the doors and burn the masks. The actions of your governor do seem quite ridiculous at the moment. California is finally leaving the purple tier but trust me, no one hear is singing our governor’s praises even though he locked us down and extended it a few times. In fact, they want him recalled. I feel that he did what he had to do based on numbers. Now the numbers are down so things are opening up. Common sense.
I understand what you are saying! Murakami is sometimes comforting to me because he writes about day to day things and sometimes, talking animals but other times cats are being slaughtered so you must weigh the risk.
I am sorry things are a little rough right now. Personally, here in California, I feel like I am a target for COVID right now. I’ve been lucky and careful but I have this weird sense that my luck is running out. That is why I wanted the vaccine before 4/6 but I didn’t know the shingles shot would cause me to wait or that my group would come up so soon (education).
I would love to have a Little Free Library, too. It would be great to have a place to drop off books other than the real library.
I’ve never seen Mannequin or Less Than Zero! I’ll have to look them up and see if they’re available for streaming on any of the channels I’ve got. Not that I long ago, I finally found Weekend at Bernie’s and watched it because I’d been hearing about it for so long. It was hilarious. I think most of the movies I’ve seen McCarthy in have been the teen romance kind, otherwise. Really want to read that book!
Haha! Mannequin is actually very sweet although the premise is so far out there. Less Than Zero is sooooo dark but the performances are stellar, although from the book McCarthy didn’t think his was. Also, Less Than Zero was done when Robert Downey Jr. was dealing with his own addiction so the plot hits really close to home for him.
I keep forgetting to add books to the little library that is (sort of) near me, but I walk past it multiple times a week.
Spring break plans? Only medical appointments. Good times.
Ha! Same. I have that COVID vax on the second day of break for my daughter. Hopefully it won’t do me in. I am just so sensitive and allergic to so many things.
We talked about Spring Break plans a lot for two weeks and then decided that we weren’t brave enough to go far. So that’s out for us. Maybe will do something during summer.
I’d like to start a Little Library somewhere in my neighborhood. I haven’t seen one here yet.
