Sunday Matters: Just Like That, and It’s Back to Reality

Sunday Matters

The return to work after a long vacation is always hard. I am just taking this day to chill before it all starts back up again. I am still working remotely so that makes it easier.

Right Now:

I am enjoying some coffee and some weekend news. It’s the only kind of news I can tolerate these days. Pet stories, entertainment news and food segments. Then, the Hub, pup and I will be off for an adventure so my daughter can complete her Baldwin Wallace audition without any distractions. The Otter Pup is known to photobomb you when on Zoom and if someone walks past the house she will bark. Not conducive to the audition process so she gets to go on an adventure with us.

Later today, youth group starts up again via Zoom and school starts back up again on Monday, remotely, so their brains will be occupied with that, I’m sure. I know it’s on my daughter’s mind.

This Week:

Work for me. School for the girl. That’s it and that’s enough. I’ve got to figure out some meal planning too. Trying to work more plant-based meals in. I have no issue with this but finding meals everyone will eat and ones that also do not have gluten can be challenging.

Reading:

The Overstory. Might take me awhile to read given that my current reading pace is that of a snail. Slow.

Watching:

We are finishing up Cobra Kai today, hopefully. Just one more episode. Not sure what we will watch after that. Bridgerton looks interesting to me but I can’t see the Hub watching it.

Also, I might have fallen into the Grey’s Anatomy hole. My daughter has been watching it recently and I can’t help but watch it with her. So much drama. I had to pull a palm tree out of my yard the other day and I had her pause it until I finished and then came back all covered in branches so I could see the ending.

Grateful for:

  • My son is all settled into his new place now. He still needs a few pieces of furniture but for the most part, he’s all set up.
  • This would never have come out of my mouth a year ago but I am grateful for physical activity. It’s the only thing that wears me down these days. Without it, my mind goes into spin mode.
  • This community. Readers are the best people.

I hope you are enjoying this weekend and if you are going back to work like I am on Monday, we will get through the week and be celebrating Friday in no time.

  1. It’s alway tough going back to work after vacation even if you are still remote. I recall one job I hated that I would actually be so depressed every Sunday just thinking about the start of a new week. I transferred to a new division and was much happier.

It’s nice that your weather is nice so you can enjoy the outdoors and get your head cleared, after last week we all need fresh air or exercise.

Hope your reading is able to pick up.

    1. First day back and I am nearly caught up. I was on fire early this morning and got so much done.

The weather is unreal. Supposed to be between 78-85 this week! I wish all this walking was showing on the scale. Not a pound lost although I do feel so much better mentally when I am able to get out and tire myself out to a degree. My mind just keeps spinning.

  2. I hope your week back to work tomorrow goes well. I find working remote helps ease back into routine much better so you can fight the Monday fog and the new routines in the comfort of your own home. I’ve got to do some meal planning for the week too. I completely forgot about it until you mentioned it!

My reading was non-existent this week. Too much work and stress. Hopefully this week is better.

  3. I also return to work (remotely) tomorrow, but my extra week off was unplanned bereavement leave. I’m not sure I’m really ready for it but I need to bite the bullet, I guess. Today I’m bouncing between two books, some online reading, and some cooking.

Good luck to everyone this week :-), Hope the audition goes well!

  4. Hope you had a fun adventure, and that your transition back to work goes well, and the audition a success. I started This Tender Land after a friend said it was a great read. She was right. I had avoided it because it seemed to have quite a bit of child abuse in it, which it does – but oh what a gifted writer Krueger is. I am enjoying it immensely.

    1. Tender Land. Yes, I have heard great things. I am so glad you are enjoying it. I may have a copy of it somewhere.

We didn’t have much of an adventure. I am always worried about leaving the city when she has an audition because of all the “what-ifs”. What if the power goes out, what if the internet goes down. So we went to three local parks. The pup was not impressed and she was giving me side eye. She likes new places. Ha.

  5. I’m glad you are able to continue working from home. That must make the return a little bit easier.

I hope your daughter’s audition went well and that you were able to enjoy your time out of the house.

I’ll be eager to hear your thoughts on The Overstory. It’s on a shelf somewhere around here, but I have felt motivated to give it a try yet.

I am a firm believer of getting outside and being physically active to help clear one’s mind. It also helps you sleep better, too. Hopefully, your weather will stay nice so you can continue with your walks. I have to plan mine between rain squalls, but I also have my indoor bike, which is a blessing.

Have a good week, Ti. It will be Friday before you know it! 🙂

    1. My first day back has been super productive. So far, so good.

Audition went well. Three more schools and then she will be done with audition season.

We didn’t have much of an outdoor adventure. I didn’t want to drive too far in case my daughter ran into tech problems or internet problems. It’s so nerve wracking. We hit three local parks but the pup was not impressed as none of them were new and she was all walked out. She was pouty about it. Ha. Such a little personality she is. I don’t know where she gets it from!

  6. I agree that pet stories are good right now (so much better than an insurrection, for example). I have taken to liking all of Laurie Halse Anderson’s tweets, which are videos of animals doing cute and relaxing things.

  7. I hope everything went well with the audition. Have a great week getting back into work. I read one book of poetry this weekend and started a new poetry anthology of poets from the DC area from pre-civil war through the 1930s and the Great Depression.

    1. Maybe I am just well-rested but I have been super productive this morning and I am almost caught up from being gone for a month.

Also, audition went very well. Now we wait. She still has three other auditions for different schools.

  8. Working from home after a vacation does make it easier to ease back in, doesn’t it?

I am so glad to see the audition went well. I hope the news from it will be good when it comes!

I started watching Bridgerton, and am enjoying it. I hope your reading picks up this week and nothing more disturbs it. I hope it’s a calm week for all of us!

    Take care.

  9. Readers ARE the best! And oh, I’m feeling you on the meal plan quandry – nothing sounds inspiring at all. BEST to you as we return to routine. and goodluck to the dot on all her auditions, school, etc. Chat with you soon. The Overstory had SO MUCH going on – made an impression, for sure.

  10. Good luck to your daughter on her audition! And that’s great your son is set up with his place. I think taking walks with my dog … is one of the few things that helps me during these times ….. keep it up Ti!
