Sunday Matters: It’s Happening

Sunday Matters

Against my will, my vacation is nearing its end. I return to the office on Tuesday and it’s not going to be pretty. No need to sugarcoat it. The day will be long and arduous and hopefully everyone will leave me alone for a little while.

Right Now:

Just making the most of the days I have left by not doing anything.

This Week:

If I can just get through the week, I should be good. I don’t have anything else scheduled except for a short get-together on Saturday.

Reading:

I’m still pondering what my first book of the year will be. I ordered two good ones but they are taking so long to get here.

Watching:

I’m jumping between Murphy Brown, The Haunting of Hill House, and Tidying Up with Marie Kondo. I am on a cleaning kick that I do not want to end.

New Things I’ve Tried:

I actually got this months ago but haven’t really had the opportunity to use it until my vacation. My MacBook crapped out. As you know, they are pricey. For what I use a laptop for, I didn’t see the point in shelling out a lot of cash right before Christmas so I got an Acer Chromebook. It’s super thin, has a compact 14 inch screen, and gives me three days of battery life when used off and on. Everything I do is web-based or in the Cloud so it just made sense. For less than $250, why the heck not?

Grateful for:

These last two days of vacation. So glad I took the extra days.

My question for you today has to do with music. If you could select one song to head into the new year with, what would it be? I learned of this guy from his appearance at the Rose Parade. He used to be homeless but now his unique sound is going viral.

Here’s Lemonade by Alex Boye. Give it a listen. I guarantee you’ll smile.

Sunday Matters: Are You Ready?

Sunday Matters

It’s hard to believe that another Christmas is now behind us. It came in like a steam roller. So many of us were exhausted and just not ready for it but here we are.

We had a wonderful Christmas. We spent time with family, we took a nice walk in the park, I made a really good prime rib dinner, and then we headed out to see Mary Poppins Returns which was charming and magical and a perfect movie to see on Christmas.

Are we ready for 2019?

Right Now:

I had to check my phone to make sure today was indeed Sunday and it is! Today we are hitting Knott’s Berry Farm. It was kind of a last-minute decision because it’s my son’s only day off but we are looking forward to spending the day together.

This Week:

The kids have their own plans for New Year’s Eve which feels weird. The Hub and I have been invited to a party nearby. We won’t stay late because The Otter Pup gets nervous when fireworks go off but it will be fun. I am going to bring Sloppy Joe Sliders.

At the end of the week, I’ve got to take my daughter for a consultation with the oral surgeon to have her wisdom teeth extracted. We have used this surgeon before with my son and he’s really good but trying to set a surgery date will be interesting with her schedule.

I return to work on Tuesday, 1/8. It will be a dark, dark day.

Reading:

Becoming by Michelle Obama. You’ve all heard it’s great and it is. I hope to get the review up before 2019 hits!

Watching:

I’ve been watching the Murphy Brown reboot. It’s pretty good. I recorded the entire season and I am almost done with it.

We watched Bird Box on Netflix. It’s based on the book of the same name. It’s different in some places but still possesses the same level of suspense as the book. Have you seen it?

I didn’t get to see all of the movies I wanted to see because our DVD player was not working right. And my TV, the old one that we have, will no longer work with Netflix at the end of January so we will be forced to get a whole new setup soon. Kind of exciting but also a big pain.

New Things I’ve Tried:

I was so over buying things that I haven’t really been able to try anything new. But we did hit a museum we haven’t been to before, the Hammer Museum. Unfortunately, part of it was under construction so we didn’t get to see much but hey, I can mark it off my list.

Grateful for:

I am grateful to have a little bit more time off. My vacation has gone by so fast and it took me so long to decompress. It’s really made me second-guess how I’ve been living thus far. Something has to change.

How did the holidays go for you? What’s your plan for NYE?
