The Sunday Salon: Life. Rushing. At. Me.

It’s. Sunday. Already.

It’s been a busy weekend as I was out of town and just got back a little bit ago. We took a short trip to Palm Desert. It wasn’t quite long enough as we left on New Year’s Day. Perhaps we should have left the day before but I didn’t want to be on the road with all of the holiday traffic. We visited with family, we ate, I read, and we ate some more. Let me tell you, eating is highly overrated. In a week, remind me that I said that as I am doing another round of The Game On Diet. I know. I’m a glutton for punishment.

In between my eat-fest, I did manage to buy this beautiful little book:

The Brontë Sisters (Jane Eyre, Wuthering Heights & Agnes Grey)

Monday is my last day off and then I am back at work. I am so not looking forward to going back. We are in the middle of some sort of re-org. I had to change offices right before the holiday so who knows what they have up their sleeves this time. I lost my personal office space. No more carpet picnics for me. I’m very sad about that. I have a much bigger space now but it’s a CUBE and well, a cubical just isn’t the same as having a door to close whenever I feel like it. I suppose I’ll make do. Oh and the worst of it is that they wouldn’t allow me to take my bookshelf so I have no place to put my books. That’s hitting a girl where it hurts.

So, in anticipation of a horrible work week, I am going to spend Monday being a slug, well, except for my 20-minutes of required Game-On exercise. I am finishing up Finn for my book club meeting which is this Thursday. I am also reading The Things That Keep Us Here, Moby Dick (cannot forget that!) and I am beginning The Awakening.

Hope you all had a great weekend. I just cannot believe that my two weeks off are coming to an end.

The Sunday Salon: The After Christmas Edition

So Christmas came, and went. We spent Christmas Eve with my in-laws (pic above). We had a lovely dinner, opened some presents and then made it home in time for Santa to arrive. There was a little family mishap where a 40 something year-old fought with an 11-year-old over the last root beer in the fridge but I will save that story for another time. Ahem.

Christmas morning, we woke to more presents. The Hub and I did not exchange gifts, but I got bookish gift cards from some of my friends so I managed to get a few gifts of my own. We also saw the new Alvin and the Chipmunks movie. It was very cute.

In the pile:

The Awakening by Kate Chopin
The Beautiful and the Damned by F. Scott Fitzgerald
Wives and Daughters by Elizabeth Gaskell
Let The Great World Spin by Colum McCann

Today is yet another lazy day for me. The sun is shining and I am totally relaxed. I went out into the craziness for a bit yesterday and quickly returned to my little oasis. I have been reading Under the Dome by Stephen King. It’s HUGE at 1100 pages but it’s going quickly and it’s the perfect read for my extended break. I am half-way through it and should be done within a day or two.

Tomorrow I am on the book tour for When She Flew. I really enjoyed that book as well and those of you that are interested in reading it, may want to stop by for the review. Hint, hint. Tomorrow is also Moby Dick Monday. I have to say, I am really enjoying it and I am so glad I decided to read it after all.

Right now my tummy is happy. I just had french toast and bacon. Two perfect foods. However, come Jan 4th I say goodbye to all things good. It’s time for another round of Game On and that means no bacon, no coffee, no anything… Well, that’s not true but it certainly feels like it for the first week or two.

As for the rest of the day, I have nothing planned and it feels wonderful!
