Whatnot – 01/11/23

Reading. The holidays have ended for me and I am back in the office . We had a nice Christmas and New Years. Most of us got sick (Hub and myself), just bad colds but it was nice to be able to stay home and rest. All plans cancelled. Numerous naps, movies, reading. I am still wrapping up my first book of the year, Lessons in Chemistry. I missed all the “first book” hoopla because just the thought of writing a post gave me a headache but I do love that event and cheered for all the picks from my sick bed. You all picked some good ones.

My days at home have been filled with cat wrangling. Jinx wants to play. She is only 4 months old but the Otter Pup sees her playing as bullying. Honestly, she is a thug and a bit rough. She is climbing all over everything and the pup feels responsible for her so she’s been a nervous wreck. Jinx and my daughter head back 1/21. It went by super fast, although my pup probably doesn’t think that.

We’ve been enjoying some weather. A Bomb Cyclone which brought lots of rain and snow to the mountains. My yard flooded at one point but then the rain just stopped and that gave it all a chance to drain away. As I type this, it’s really coming down out there.

I am going to keep this brief because being back at work is rough after so much time off but I just wanted to check in and wish everyone a good 2023.

How are you?

  1. Nice to see an update post from you, Ti. Glad you have enjoyed your daughter at home and the pup and kitty have managed OK enough together. Life continues with house renovations here. One day we might be done – possibly. Ha! My husband promised me that we would be through by the time 2023 ends. I told him I was going to hold him to that! It’s been OK, but I will admit that I’ll be glad to be just us in our house and be able to get dressed when I want. I always feel like I need to be out of the shower by the time I have ‘others’ in my house. I’ve finished two books this year and that’s an improvement over the 4th quarter of 2022 – no books read then and me, a bit nutty. Take care and enjoy the moisture. We, of course, need more of that.

    1. I am like you, not quite able to relax knowing people will be in the house. I tend to leave when work is being done unless I am forced to stay for some reason.

Oh my gosh, the rain we’ve had. The streets had boats going down them and some areas got 8 inches in just a few hours. That is more rain than the past four years combined.

My daughter leaves 1/21 and now the son and his cat Root Beer will be here March 9th for a few days.

  2. I’m glad you guys had a good Christmas, in spite of everyone being sick! Sometimes it’s nice to cancel all the plans and just hang out together.

Hope the storms start to taper off soon. We’ve had a lot of rain and wind, but we’re used to it, more or less.

  3. Thinking of you and all the rain in CA. I just realized that I wrote to a friend in San Luis Obispo and forgot to even mention/ask abt the rain. oh well. Looking forward to your review of Lessons in Chemistry.

  4. I wondered how you were faring amid the bad weather of California. I’m glad you had a little break in the rain, giving your yard time to drain. That’s one of the things that saved us during Hurricane Ike here.

I hope you are enjoying Lessons in Chemistry. It’s really an ideal read for the going-back-to-work time…not too heavy, but with a lovely charm.

  5. The So Cal weather has been a bit crazy lately. My parents did not evacuate and my end of town wasn’t bad at all. And, Lake Cachuma (where we get all our water) went from 35% to overflowing. Amazing.
