Whatnot – 11/03/21

Cypress trees. Hello. I hope your week is going well. I’ve been out of sorts. As Lucy would say, I think I need a tonic or something. Vita-Meat-a-Vegamin? I just aged myself.

At the end of last week, my son hit a deer in Kansas, going 65 MPH. You know his car woes and how long it took for Kia to return his car when his engine blew. Well, it’s not looking good for that car. He is okay after being shaken up pretty well. Stomach pain from the air bag/seat belt response. Now, we wait.

We had a blast on Halloween. Lots and lots of kids. Probably about 200. Less than normal but a good amount. My friend came and sat with us and we ate vegetarian chili and had a good time with all the well-mannered kids in the neighborhood. At the end of the night, I walked across the lawn for something and my knee gave out. If it wasn’t bad before, it certainly is now. I heard a definite crack and now it’s black and blue. My appointment with the specialist is 11/8 and it can’t come soon enough.

My reading has been slow-ish. Dune is not a book to race through. I may need to pick something up to read along with it or I won’t have reviews to write for November. Ha!

I’m keeping this short intentionally as I just feel sorry for myself and feel like Billy Crystal in When Harry Met Sally when he just lies there moaning miserably. Sometimes it just feels good to wallow. Off I go.

Have a great rest of the week!

  1. Oh no! Both your knee and your son’s accident. Not a good week! I hope you are enjoying Dune. I just couldn’t get into that book. I’m hoping to finish a couple fiction this week or at least one of them, but poetry is still the mainstay — part of that is festival work.

I hope the Dr. appointment helps with your knee.

  2. Oh, Ti! So sorry about your knee’s further woes. Hope that doctor appointment will give you some insights. Also sorry about your son’s deer incident. I do understand about what an accident such as that can do to a car. I haven’t had one myself, but I’ve known many others who have. Lots of deer in our part of the world.

  3. I’m so sorry you have hurt your knee. That is not good. I hope it’s a quick fix. Fingers crossed and prayers said. And thank God your son was not seriously injured.

  4. Wallowing is key sometimes. I am so sorry that your knee is now worse! And having your child in an accident is scary and exhausting. I am glad he is okay and suggest ditching his car as it seems to have bad vibes. 🙂

  5. OMG – Those deer accidents are so dangerous, glad he is okay but, maybe time to ditch the Kia. It’s rough that he isn’t close by.
I am so sorry about your knee:( hopefully, you can find out what is going on. AT yoga today one particular pose made my knee pop and crunch …ugh sucks when our bodies make life difficult at time.

  6. Whew! Hitting a deer is frightening. I’m glad your son is recovering.

I’m so sorry to hear about your knee. Hopefully the doctor had fix you up.

I was stewing in that same sort of mood on Tuesday. Then yesterday—who knows why?!—I suddenly felt cheery again.

  7. Yikes! I was always worried about hitting a deer when we lived in Nebraska. They were EVERYWHERE! I’m sorry your son’s car got damaged and hope the insurance company comes through quickly.

I also hope you get some encouraging advice from your doctor on Monday! You really have had a rough time, haven’t you? Hang in there and hopefully you’ll have a good weekend.
