Sunday Matters: Happy Halloween!

Sunday Matters

It’s amazing how fast Sunday comes around. Happy Halloween! Today I am making Impossible Chili in the crock pot. We’ll see how the veg meat sub holds up in the crock. I will serve it with some cornbread too and we will eat while handing out candy tonight. Maybe we will try to watch a movie too but usually there is too much foot traffic for us to watch a movie.

Right Now:

Coffee, a gluten free bagel and then I am off to see the high schoolers. The party we had last Wednesday was a blast. I wonder if they will wear costumes today.

This Week:

I don’t have much of anything going on this week which is very nice. The “need to do” stuff is just me trying to stay busy and tidy up a bit. My bookshelves are in need of some attention. I need to go through important papers and organize a bit but that’s no fun. I need to buy some clothes like adults do if I am ever going to return to society. I think velour track suits should make a comeback.

Reading:

I finished Taste and posted my review last Friday in case you missed it. I am now reading Dune (liking it a lot) and then will make room for my book club’s pick This Tender Land

This Tender Land

Watching:

With the trick or treaters coming and going tonight we may just watch some classic TV like Newhart or Mary Tyler Moore.

Grateful for:

  • Indian food. It has a lot of vegetarian options. It’s one of my favorite types of food.
  • Coffee time with friends. The beverage doesn’t really matter but getting together for a quick “catch-up” session does my soul good.

That’s all I have. I hope you have a wonderful Sunday and great week!

  1. I made beef stew in the crockpot yesterday. It turned out so well (surprised me:) and was perfect for our rainy day. William kent Krueger is a great author. I’ve read a few of his books and have several to catch up on. Hope yours is a good read.

  2. We don’t get trick-or-treaters here, so took pizza and salad over to my FIL. Also made him some apple crisp for dessert. Just finished listening to Taste this afternoon – so good! This Tender Land is on my list, loved his earlier novel Ordinary Grace. Happy Halloween, Ti!

  3. Indian food is one of my favorites as well. I think we’re getting Indian take out later this week. Yummy!

  4. I love Indian food! I need to buy some clothes too. Since Covid hit I’ve been mainly wearing pj’s at home, but I’d like to have some new clothes that are soft and comfy so that if I need to step outside for something I don’t have to go change into clothes first.

We only had two groups of Trick or Treaters. One was neighborhood kids and the other was my grandson, his girlfriend, my great grandbaby Jensen, Jensen’s aunt and her baby.

  5. This year was another bust. Just 4 trick or treaters, but I think next year we will stick around to have our daughter trick or treat here. When we returned a little earlier than usual to the neighborhood, people were out handing out candy still so Kat decided to trick or treat in the neighborhood for a little bit longer. It was good to see that people were happy to see her and handed her way more candy than she needed. We did see 1 family with a hay rid of kids in the neighborhood! Sadly they didn’t come to our street 😦

  6. No trick-or-treaters for us, but I knew we wouldn’t get any. Our neighborhood is 99% adults over 55. I used to make chili every year for Halloween and we’d sit outside and hand out candy while enjoying our meal. I’ve been living in leggings and workout clothes since it’s gotten too cold for shorts. I guess I’ll have to dress up a bit for Thanksgiving. 😉 I read This Tender Land for my book club a couple of years ago. I thought it was good, but Ordinary Grace is still my favorite.

  7. I hope you had a fun Halloween. I think I need to do chili for the crock pot. Is that veggie chili? Enjoy your books.
