I don’t think we have ever waited so long to put up the Halloween decor. We had planned to put it up last weekend and then football and baseball came into play. But, it’s up now. We need new stuff. This last year most of what we had fell apart up in the attic. It’s too hot up there. But the school kids walk by every day and I hear them talking about why we don’t have our decorations up so we patched it together and will get one more year out of it. They should be happy now.
Right Now:
Coffee. There is nothing like a big cup of coffee on Sunday morning. Then, I am off to hang with the high schoolers.
This Week:
I have book club this week. We are discussing Piranesi and I cannot wait.
The housing app for Missouri State opened last Friday so we are having a lot of discussions about housing for next year. She really needs a kitchen. That dining plan is not working at out. She is a healthy eater and country fried steak and meatloaf are not staples for her. I really hope we can get her into an apartment or at the very least a suite.
Reading:
I reviewed The Guide last Friday. I know it didn’t get rave reviews but I liked it a lot. I finished Nine Perfect Strangers. I should have the review up this week. I also finished Taste by Stanley Tucci. Very good. I hope to have that review up soon. That book is a treat to read.
Now, I must decide what to read next. The Stowaway came in from the library so I am leaning towards that one since many of you recommended it to me. Plus my RIP reading hasn’t been great.
Watching:
American Horror Story: Part 2. Still good. Very entertaining. Perfect for mindless TV viewing.
Squid Game. Just started.
I hope to watch Nine Perfect Strangers on Hulu soon since I just finished the book.
Grateful for:
- We had a ladies night for the student ministry leaders last Friday night and it was so much fun. JUST what I needed. Very grateful for that.
- Overdrive and the library. I get so many of my Kindle books from Overdrive.
That’s all I have. I hope you have a wonderful Sunday and great week!
Hope your daughter gets the housing she wants. Guess she won’t have to worry about throat freshmen 15 they talk about! I hope you like Stowaway, it’s intense and a quick read. I love Overdrive as well for audio an eBook downloads. So much available for free!
Have a good week.
Hello! I sent you an email with a link to a review on Piranesi that has stayed with me. Have a great week!
OverDrive is the best. Don’t know what I would do without it. I finished Piranesi, too — so good.
I’m on the hold list for Piranesi and considering reading Taste for Nonfiction November. Will look for your review. I hope your daughter is able to get an apartment or suite with a kitchen. My daughters has issues with the meal plan, too, and were much happier when they could cook for themselves. My fingers are crossed for your daughter!
I need to write my review of Taste and get it posted. I am thinking about choosing it for book club next year and then making some of the dishes he shares. Some of the cocktails too. 🙂
You are lucky if you can not pay for the meal plan. This year my daughter is in an on-campus townhouse with 4 friends, which is fantastic, but we’re paying for the meal plan AND groceries so they can cook good lunches/dinners. Sigh. Of course, once she has graduated, I’ll be all sad that she is moving on. 🙂
MSU requires a meal plan if you live on campus. The apartment she is looking at is across the street and is actually not affiliated with the school but the leasing office works only with students. It’s very nice actually. I hope she gets it. She had to find roommates because it’s a four room apt.
I need to run out and get pumpkins for the front porch. I’m (way) behind too!! Nine Perfect Strangers is a pretty entertaining series — weird & wacky all at the same time. Fun actors in it!! You must see. Also I think my husband liked The Guide … I still plan to get to it. I read The River. But some reviews really nixed the Guide … eh? Whatever.
I’m not sure why The Guide got such mixed reviews. I really liked it.
I haven’t watched Nine Perfect Strangers on Hulu yet. I find myself backlogged with must-watch TV. So much so that I am watching nothing.
I am keeping my fingers crossed that you get your daughter the housing she wants with a kitchen. Some schools only allow Juniors and Seniors to get apartments. But suites might have a kitchen, depends on the university.
Sounds like you’ve made great progress in reading and watching things.
We’re starting our Halloween watching. My daughter and I have our favorites: Nightmare Before Christmas, Hocus Pocus, Adams Family.
