Sunday Matters: Baby Steps

Sunday Matters

Good morning! I think I mentioned before how Root Beer the cat is addicted to phone and computer screens. Anytime we have them out, she looks for her bird videos. It’s gotten to the point where she will knock my phone out of my hand. This was initially annoying but has been a blessing because it’s forced me to put my phone away. This allowed me to finish a book! Finally. We are weaning her off the bird videos as she now has a stroller for walkies.

Root Beer's new stroller.

No big news on the job front for my son. He has had lots of interviews. He is most excited about a Denver opportunity. You have all been very sweet with the encouraging messages and some have even gone as far as sending him job opportunities. Thank you so much!

Right Now:

This was a rare week where I got to spend extra time with the students from student ministry. Yesterday we volunteered to pack meals together and today it’s week one of a new series which is pretty exciting as we head into Easter. I am about to head over there now.

This Week:

We are gearing up for my daughter’s one week return on 3/13. We will be picking her up from a distant airport since flights were ridiculous but we will make it work. She is very eager to be home for a bit.

Reading:

The School for Good Mothers. It’s a little dark and I am liking it so far.

Watching:

Still watching All of Us Are Dead. A Korean zombie show on Netflix. It’s a good mix of action, drama, and yes, even some comedy.

Grateful for:

  • SO happy to be walking again. I do a long-ish walk and then a short walk the next day so I can ease back into it.
  • My new 40 ounce Hydro Flask. I have to drink a gallon of water a day now (doctor’s order) so it helps to not have to refill so much.

Have a wonderful Sunday and great week!

  1. I can’t get enough of E’s RootBeer:) This cat must be thinking he’s gone to heaven. I’m guessing you knee is better since you are back to a walking routine? Is it better because of PT or something else? I’ve been reading a lot, a great escape for me these days. Hope the week goes well for you and bet you can’t wait for your daughter to be home as well.

    1. Honestly, I didn’t think the cortisone shot did much but it did reduce the swelling in my knee which I guess contributed to the pain. During that horrible kidney stent situation, I was in so much pain with that, that I guess my knee just felt better. I think starting to walk slowly has strengthened the surrounding muscles. I still limp around if I get up too fast or walk too much but it’s definitely better.

Root Beer is the sweetest girl. She has really adapted well to having a family. She comes to tuck Chloe in and then goes to bed. She does try to get me to show her bird videos before heading to bed but she is doing better now that she gets nature walks. She really missed being outside. Now she sits by the slider and watches the birds and lizards.

  2. I’m glad you are getting back to your walks, but 1 gallon of water?! Yikes. I’m not very good about drinking water when it’s cold out. Much easier on hot days. How exciting to have your daughter heading home for a visit. I remember a few times flying into John Wayne airport since it was cheaper than San Diego. Our closest airport now is in Portland, which is 2 1/2 hours away. Makes for a very long day of travel.

    1. We’ve never used John Wayne airport before but we had no choice. I wasn’t going to pay $3700 for a two stop flight into LAX. Ridiculous!

  3. It sounds like things are finally settling a bit for you and the family. Good luck to your son on the job search (never a fun task), to your daughter on returning to school (very fun), and kudos to you for getting back to walking and water drinking. It must feel so good to able to walk again!

  4. I’m glad your daughter will be home soon, nice!! And that you’re out walking again – how great. I’ll be flying into Palm Springs on March 13 to see my parents …. I had to get the flights long ago …. otherwise nuts. It’ll be good to be back again. Have a great week.

  5. Root Beer looks pretty happy in the new stroller and I’m glad you’re getting back to your walking routine. Good luck to your son as he continues the job hunt!

  6. It sounds like you are starting to get back some kind of normal. I love hearing about the kitty. Enjoy time with the family.

  7. I am so glad that you’re back to walking! 🙂 That must be a relief and sounds like RB is helping with your own screen time. I hope you have a great week.

  8. Glad you are walking again! I try to get close to 10,000 steps a day but it’s usually over 8-9. Root Beer is adorable, and so is the Otter Pup! Glad your daughter will be home for a while, praying your son gets the job he’s most excited about!

    1. Yes. My walking is kind of limping around but it feels good to get moving and to be outside again. The pup loves the slower pace. She spends extra time sniffing every leaf and eating dandelions.
