It occurs to me that this title might lead you to think that a college decision is enclosed. It is not. Soon, though. My “decision” reference has to do with my reading choices. I gotta keep this reading train going by picking just the right read or it will all come to a screeching halt. It’s a fine balance between review copies, what I already own and what I have on my Kindle. Oh, and I cannot forget mood. That seems to change hourly.
The reason for all my decision talk is that I picked up The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue and could.not.get.through.it. I gave up. I read all the wonderful reviews and I respect all of your opinions but what the heck? It dragged so. I read enough of it to consider it read but I won’t do a formal review of it here because it’s not fair to review a book that you haven’t finished. However, I could not go on and pulled the trigger. That left me in a ditch with my reading for a day because it’s a longish read and I didn’t have the next one lined up so I stared at walls and got all worked up.
Right Now:
I have since found something else to read. Noted, below.
This morning I have big church and then little church, youth group. After that we will take the pup for a long walk. She is not a fan of afternoon walks because it cuts into her nap time but when the morning activities interfere it’s better than nothing and I still like to get a walk in.
This Week:
Fun stuff this week! I have an online book club meeting. I think everyone in my club is now vaccinated except for me (counting the days until 4/6) so maybe we can meet in-person soon.
I am also having lunch with a friend this week!
We see my son this weekend in Solvang. That will be fun. The pup has never been. We will try to grab that photo of her in a wooden shoe.
Reading:
I picked up The New Neighbors when my other booked didn’t work out.
Watching:
My son kept trying to get me to watch WandaVision and by episode four, it clicked. I have to say, it’s a very clever show but you have to give it some time.
We finished Schitt’s Creek and the documentary of their final table read. What a great show. I will miss it a lot but I have to agree with Dan Levy, I am glad it closed on a high note. It easily could have gone on for another season but it was perfect where it ended.
The Walking Dead. I wish the showrunners would turn the show over to the fans. I have all sorts of plot lines that would bring the viewers back. It’s falling apart.
As for movies, we watched Knives Out. Really enjoyed that one. We will watch Midway soon and the new Godzilla vs. Kong movie when it comes out on HBO Max.
Grateful for:
- Daylight Savings didn’t do a number on me like it normally does. Maybe because I am not commuting for work. The transition was just fine.
- The time we will spend with our son this week. My son and daughter will have lots to discuss because she has made her decision but I am not allowed to say until she announces it herself. My son’s grad school decision is close too.
- New couches. We got our new couches delivered for our family room. We love them. The pup approves.
Movie theatres have opened in LA County at 25% capacity but ours have not and I fear they may never. I don’t think they took the hit all that well. What is one movie you are looking forward to seeing in the theatre soon? All I can think about is the new Bond movie. I love those movies.
Book Chatter 
So you still did talk about college decisions, after all. 🙂 Even though we didn’t get the major “reveal.” We’ll look forward to hearing when she does announce it…and when your son announces his too. As for Schitt’s Creek, it did end at the right place. Too often shows don’t know when to end, maybe The Walking Dead, say? I like British shows for that reason. They know how not to overstay their welcome and only do three or four seasons, just right. For example, Miranda was nearly perfect in its ending.
It might be some time before the college decision is shared publicly. She wants to get her swag in and do some photos.
I thought Addie was long and drawn out too. But I really liked the ending. I’m starting to think the hyped books are ones I need to slip by
Time change killed me. Or it could be post menopausal wake up in the middle of the night thing. Or both.

Bummer about Addie LaRue. I nominated that (unread) for my book group and it was chosen, so I hope my friends (and I) have a better experience than you!
We started Schitt’s Creek the other night and only watched one episode. I’m sure it gets better, but we decided to move on and began Sneaky Pete, which grabbed us from the get-go.
Schitt’s definitely picks up.
Addie LaRue is so highly recommended so I must be in the minority.
I am sorry you did not like Addie La Rue, it is always disappointing when you look forward to a book so many others have enjoyed and it doesn’t work for you. I had that happen to me with The Dutch House by Ann Patchett. I ended up trying it again a few months later, and on audio, listening to Tom Hanks. I enjoyed it then. So exciting that the kids are making their decisions. The weather here is finally warming, hope it sticks. We could never get into Schitts Creek, but have been enjoying Jericho and New Tricks.
I love the build up to the college/graduate school choice announcements and I am eagerly waiting! You have been on such a great run of wonderful books so not a surprise that you had one downer. Glad you have found another one that got you back on a roll.
Hope Solvang was fun!
Daylight savings didn’t affect me as much as usual, either. You may be right that it could be due to a lack of commute (or, in my case, not as much of one since I’m only commuting into the office twice per week).
Knives Out was a fun movie! I also enjoyed The New Neighbors — hope it works out better than Addie LaRue (haven’t read that one yet). Love the insta pics of your pup on the new couch. Cute! ♥
Knives Out was a lot of fun. I want movies like that one. The pup is cracking us up. The couch sits higher so she keeps falling off or running into it when trying to jump up. She misses her dippy spot where she snuggles up.
No major college reveal. Sadness. I kid. It’s a big decision. I can understand that. I honestly am still having trouble sleeping lately.
Your daughter has made her choice, wow! I hope it makes you all very happy. I’m sure you will tell us soon enough. Enjoy your trip to Solvang. I have not tried the Addie LaRue book yet, but now I’m worried about it. I dont want another dragging book. ha. Enjoy your week.
She has! We expected to wait until at least April for her to make a decision because she had one scholarship that required a decision by then. That’s really not cool when schools do that. The national decision deadline is May 1st but some schools pull $$ as time goes on. Such pressure. Although we were still waiting on one school she pulled the trigger and made her decision. She ordered swag like a sweatshirt and the like so I have to wait for her formal announcement.
Too bad about Addie. I know the reviews have been stellar, but it just doesn’t sound like my kind of book. Might borrow it from the library at some point. Looking forward to your daughter’s decision… eventually. Hope you have a great week!
The book I’ve been reading for the past few weeks has put me in a serious rut. It’s a good book but reads so slow that I’ve been getting frustrated. I’ll eventually finish it but I had to start a few books in between.
Congrats to your daughter on her school decision (and also the admits that came in). I’ll wait to hear which one she picked but it’s great that a decision has been made and you all know what next. Fingers crossed for your son too.
I passed on Invisible Life, too. Glad I’m not the only one. I’m keeping the book train on the tracks, too. I don’t want to get into a slump again. I highly recommend Klara and the Sun (finished it today), though it is odd. But in a good way.
I’m happy for your daughter. It’s a happy feeling to know where you are headed.
We really enjoyed Knives Out. It’s the last recent film I can remember enjoying.
