I told you all last week I’d share a pic from formal if I was able to grab one with permission. Here it is!
I had a high school ministry event to attend last Thursday (Galentines!) so I wasn’t able to attend church then. We will be going to this morning’s service and then I will hang back for high school ministry. Gotta take two separate cars but I don’t want to miss today’s message which is all about Anxiety.
Our campus is open this Monday as we take the President’s Day holiday and use it at the end of the year. My daughter has no school though. which is a nice break for her.
We submitted her application for a Musical Theatre intensive for this summer. Waiting to see if she gets in. I won’t lie. I am a little nervous about her traveling to a different state but her friend also applied so I am hoping they both make it in so they can go together. I never knew how nerve-wracking the making of a simple audition video could be.
On another note, I have two fun things happening this week and both happen to be on Thursday. Lunch with some work colleagues from the past and then later that night. my Conversations club will be viewing Parasite! I will finally be able to weigh-in on this award winning film.
I just finished The River at Night. I was confused when I picked this one up because I thought I was reading Long Bright River. The covers are similar and they both have river in their titles but they are very different books! The River at Night is a few years old and had been on my list for awhile. It was pretty good, actually. My review should post this week.
I received a lot of good book mail this past week so now I don’t know what to read next. This crazy reading pace of mine is due to the fact that I just keep reading without stopping. Maybe I will read this one next.
I haven’t been watching anything. The Walking Dead starts up again on 2/23 though. I keep giving the show a chance even though the writing has gotten kind of lazy. They should let the fans write a season. I have all sorts of ideas.
New Things I’ve Tried:
I haven’t tired any new products lately. I’ve been trying to cut my spending down a little. I hardly buy anything but the cost of groceries has gone up quite a bit, almost double. Is it that way where you are? In California it’s hard to ignore.
- The time we got to spend with my son yesterday
- Publishers and authors who support bloggers
- My library card. I’ve not checked a physical book out in so long but every single day I am checking out an ebook.
- Used book stores
How is your weekend so far? What is one book or movie you are really looking forward to? The new Bond movie should be good. Also looking forward to the new Wes Anderson film, The French Dispatch. Both don’t come out for a little while but they look great.

Definitely noticing the increase in groceries here in PA, too. It’s ridiculous. I shop mostly at Aldi but go to 1-2 other stores for things that Aldi doesn’t have, and it’s become nearly impossible to feed the four of us for less than $200 per week. We each have different dietary preferences/needs so that doesn’t help, but still. I feel ya on this, Ti!
Good luck to your daughter on the Intensives! Sounds like a great program.
Yes! I have Celiac so I often have to go to more than one market to get the products I like. It adds up fast. I have to hit the market tonight and I am not thrilled about it. Sometimes I think it’s easier and cheaper to pick up takeout, depending on what it is but often it’s not all that healthy. I got a smoothie (medium) at Jamba juice yesterday and it was $8, no add-ins.
I don’t have Presidents Day off either. I did take Friday as a vacation day so I did get a three-day weekend, but I still have to go to work tomorrow. That said, I’m trying to relax this afternoon, which hopefully will involve some reading. Yesterday, I thought I’d get to some, but then a nap and a binge-watch of the second season of Grace and Frankie interrupted. Like you, I hope to see Parasite this week. I have it on hold at the library so hopefully will come in soon so we’ll be able to watch it. We’ll have to compare notes.
As for food costs going up, Kim and I have been getting vegetables from a subscription box service called Misfits Market. They send vegetables that supermarkets don’t want because they don’t look pretty. They still taste good, though. I think these kinds of services are available all over the country, even if by different names and different companies. You might want to look into it in your area.
We have something similar called Imperfect Produce, or something like that. It’s not just produce that is up in California though. A gallon of milk is $5, a package of four chicken breasts $23, for example and none of it is Organic. Everything is up by a dollar or two which adds up fast.
I am really excited about seeing Parasite so I hope your copy comes in. I see it on Thursday night.
Groceries are so expensive! We just got back from getting food for the week and my girls were even cringing when they saw how much everything cost.
Anxiety? I should have heard that sermon. I have suffered from anxiety for years, and pretty much thought it was under control until the past few months. Right now it’s worse than it’s ever been and traditional medicines have not worked (bad side effects). I’m not exactly sure what my next steps are, but I’ve got a few dr. appointments lined up for the week as well as an acupuncture appointment.
I’m sorry to hear that your anxiety is acting up. I can send you the link to the series if you are interested. Just let me know. I have moments of anxiousness but for me, they do not last. This grocery issue is becoming a problem though. We are all trying to make healthy choices but that bill at checkout is too much. I have to go tonight to pick up stuff and I am dreading it.
Glad you had fun in SB! An out of state theater intensive sounds like so much fun and how great to (maybe) be able to do it with a friend. Can’t wait to see what you think of Paradise. It is not what I expected, but I thought it was really good.
Santa Barbara was just perfect this past Saturday. We walked all over. I was sad to see that the mall area is still under construction and of course Saks is now completely closed. What a shame. I still miss Barnes and Border’s from years ago.
Sounds like you have a lot going on. Love the pic of your daughter and date. Curious what you will think of Parasite, we’re not big on subtitles so may wait to see it “on demand”. Looking for to New Call of the Wild movie with Harrison Ford that releases Friday.
Have a great week.
A new Harrison Ford movie?? I knew nothing about it. Looking it up now. I don’t mind subtitles as long as the movie is riveting and I’ve heard Parasite is. I can’t wait to see it this week.
Love the photo of your daughter and her date to the prom. Grocery prices always go up in the winter where I live because our town triples in number due to people coming here for the winter. We’re half way between Orlando and Tampa so it’s a convenient place to live.
I’m not sure why our prices went up. They did last year for produce because of the drought but this year should not be an issue.
Your daughter is so lovely! I’ll keep my fingers crossed for her and her friend to get accepted to that program.
To be honest, I don’t pay attention to grocery prices so I don’t know if they’re going up or not.
Thank you. We hope to hear about the intensive soon because the second payment is technically due soon but since it’s non-refundable I sure as heck don’t want to pay it before she is in.
I have to hit the market tonight and I am dreading it. I cook simple meals and yet it’s still ridiculous when that final total comes up.
We just watched Parasite last night! Intense
That picture is TOO preposterously cute.
My weekend is going well, and I’m excited for next weekend as it will be MARDI GRAS and I will therefore get a long weekend. Hooray! I am planning to read so many books.
My weekend was really busy, but it wasn’t overly stressful. I really want to read The Deep. I always love Katsu’s take on historical periods while adding something supernatural.
I am almost done with The Deep. Wishing there was more Titanic stuff in it.
