Sunday Matters: Reading Again, and It Feels Good

Sunday Matters

I’ve been catching up on my blog reading and it seems like many of you were reading at a snail’s pace like me. I don’t know what it is about the summer/fall transition that does that to me but it certainly does. Anyway, I’ve picked myself up and dove right into King’s latest. He is always good medicine.

Right Now:

Taking it easy today. I am volunteering later but my plan is to remain on the couch until the last possible second. I just want to watch old episodes of Roseanne, or Seinfeld or possible some animal or travel shows. Mindless stuff.

This Week:

My daughter has a theatre showcase on Tuesday night and the big competition of the same scenes will be on Saturday. It’s an all day event. Very fun. I hope they do well. My daughter is in the musical category. The scene is hush hush so I can’t tell you much about it other than it’s good. It’s at a high school not too far away this year but I am working it so will spend the day there along with The Hub and some of my fave parents. I just love these kids.


King, King, King. The Institute, specifically.


American Horror Story has been so good this season. The 80s and the plot twists have me dancing a jig.

The Walking Dead started up again with a very interesting opener. Seems promising.

New Things I’ve Tried:

I don’t know if I mentioned it in my last post but I joined Weight Watchers again. It’s not new to me at all. I hit goal twice on it but as some of you know the program seems to change every couple of years which always infuriated me in the past but this year’s program with all these zero point foods has me rethinking it. I’ve already lost ten pounds and it’s been three weeks. ZERO cravings, too.

The part that IS new besides the program, is the fact that I am actually investing in my health. I am a walking nightmare although you probably would not think that if you saw me in real life. At least I hope not.

Grateful for:

Great books. Always grateful for great reads but now that I’m choosing to be part of the blogging community again (hehe), the books are staring me in the face and once again I am excited about reading them.

Do you dress up for Halloween? If so, what will you be? I don’t dress but I like to wear festive things like hats or crowns or special shirts. Sometimes face makeup.

    I have friends who’ve had great success with WW and I hope you continue to as well.

    I don’t dress up for Halloween. I wanted to a few years ago and most of the costumes I found were trashy.

    I’ve heard nothing but good about Weight Watchers. It’s great to focus on food that fills us and satisfies us and is healthy, too.

    I love to dress up for Halloween. I always dressed as a witch at school for the week before Halloween, and I told the kids I was my identical twin sister, Mrs. Zance. My twin sister was quite witch-y and read scary books and made everyone strictly adhere to all the rules. It was fun to return to the library as myself and hear all the comments about my sister!

  3. Yay to vegging out. Good luck to your daughter 🙂 That King book was so much fun to read. I hear he has some new novellas coming out next year – woo hoo! AHS is so great this season – I am loving it!! Congrats on WW. I was thinking of starting WW – I like the idea of being able to eat all the foods, but in moderation. Hope you are having a great weekend!!

  4. Good for you for taking control of your health! I have put on so much weight recently and just don’t seem to be able to get myself to do something about it. Though, of course, I think about it every day.

    1. I used to be pretty focused on the number on the scale. All those eating disorders I suffered from in the 80s did that to me but these days, I just want to walk up a hill and not die. LOL. Camp just about killed me last summer. Yeah, altitude was an issue but so was my out of shape self. No denying it.

    Weight watchers has never appealed to me, but I’m not great at dieting, etc. LOL I love food too much.

    Not much reading here, but we were at a 2-day swim meet and we saw my daughter’s coach play a charity soccer game against local cops for breast cancer research. It was uber busy.

    I hope to start the Stephen King book on audio this week.

    1. If you are a food lover, WW is one of the few plans that lets you eat regular foods and allows points for special occasions and the like. No one likes being on a plan but camp just about killed me last year. I was so out of shape.

  7. Hope you enjoy the Stephen King book. I’ll get around to it at some point, but probably not this fall. As you know, I’m a big lover of WW and, yes, they do change it up quite a bit. I think some changes are coming (have no idea what), but that’s just based on some hints by my group leader. I like the idea that you can eat what you want (with planning) and still move forward in your health journey. I think one of the things I’ve learned is that this will be a lifetime challenge for me (duh!) and I can’t ever quit again. There are ups and there are downs and life throws you curves that you are not expecting. However, just keeping myself going down the road is working for me. I’m not to goal yet, but I’m so grateful for the progress I’ve made. Good luck to you, Ti! Our health is important.

    1. That’s really the key. You are never finished with WW and I felt like goal, and hitting goal, did that to me every time. Gave me a sense that I was done with it. It all came back of course, twice. I noticed with this new plan that they don’t even mention maintenance so maybe that’s a good thing. I don’t know.

  8. Hooray for WW! I haven’t been in a long time, but lost 25 pounds years ago. Thought about trying it again and was frustrated with all the changes… Good luck to your daughter and I’m glad you’re reading again.

    1. WW has always worked for me. Some programs worked better than others. However, this one seems to have gotten me past where I’ve been stuck for awhile so that’s good. I know it will probably change at the beginning of the year though. You know how they do that.

  9. WW sounds like it’s a good program, especially if you don’t feel hungry etc. How are you liking the new King book? It’s another long one right? Good luck to your daughter this week. Sounds fun.

    1. The King book is a long one but not super long like some of his others. So far, I am liking it quite a bit. I’m reading it with a book discussion book (This is How it Always Is) and that one is a great book for discussion.

    1. Thank you!! WW is good. I’ve hit goal twice but I am so much older now. My metabolism is shot. These past two weeks I plateaued but I think maybe it will break by weigh on on Monday.
