Sunday Matters: Wrapping It Up

Sunday Matters

Little Shop of Horrors comes to a close this afternoon. My daughter did really well. She’s done many shows but this one and the last one she did, Footloose, showed so much growth as a performer. We are so very proud of her. I will share pics once I have them.

Thank you for the good thoughts and prayers regarding her health during this show. She made it through.

Right Now:

Church, and then we are off to see the show again.

This Week:

We have a little break this week and then next week, classes start. I can’t believe she will be going into 11th grade.

This week, I am going to begin the writing project that I keep teasing. I don’t mean for it to be a tease. It’s more like I just keep procrastinating. I plan to start and then I don’t. It may not turn out to be anything. I will start on Tuesday with an outline. There. I’ve committed.

Reading:

I have been reading some great books lately. My review of The Friends We Keep will post this week. I loved it so much.

I just started City of Girls. It’s starting off very strong. I have high hopes for it.

Watching:

I haven’t been able to watch much this week with all of the rehearsals going on. I did watch the Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee episode with Eddie Murphy. I’ve always loved Murphy. He was really low-key in the episode but mentioned that he is thinking about returning to stand-up. That would be awesome.

New Things I’ve Tried:

Do you guys have Ralph’s or Kroger’s where you are? They make the best Gluten Free frozen pizza on the planet and it’s so inexpensive. I add chopped veggies and sometimes extra cheese to make it really good but on its own, it’s pretty fabulous. It’s allowed me to enjoy pizza once again.

Grateful for:

So grateful that my daughter was able to perform as planned. As Bryan mentioned to me in a comment, my kids always seem to get sick before a show but with mandatory rehearsals, performers come to work sick as dogs and it spreads around. Plus, long nights, little sleep, stress and not eating right. It adds up. I try to build their immunity up beforehand but it doesn’t always work.

Keeping with the theatre theme, what is your favorite musical? I love Cabaret.

Sunday Matters: Showtime (Almost)

Sunday Matters

Last night we celebrated my son’s 21st birthday with dinner out. It was a great meal and nostalgic for me because it’s a restaurant that I used to go to when I was in in my teens. This is a photo of him along with his sister.

My son and daughter.

This is production week for Little Shop of Horrors. You all know how involved my family is in theatre so you’ve rolled through all of it with me. It can be a very busy time but summer shows are so much easier and fun. Once again I am working backstage too. I am looking forward to it.

Right Now:

REST. I didn’t mention it but my daughter has been suffering from a massive headache for days now. Urgent Care diagnosed her with a sinus infection. Very hard to sing throughout an entire show, dance and not die from the pain. Hopefully, we caught it in time. If you are the praying type, please pray that she heals before showtime this Friday. Good thoughts are much appreciated as well.

Later today the high school ministry group is having a BBQ. I hope some of the girls from my group can go as it looks like fun.

This Week:

Production week. Enough said.

Reading:

I reviewed two books this week, The Summer Demands and The Scent Keeper.  I finished The Friends We Keep and hope to have that review up soon.

Next up? Never Have I Ever. I cannot wait to jump into this one!

Watching:

I’ve been watching a lot of Lakefront Bargain Hunt. Also, Hoarders although I have seen almost every episode now. Fear the Walking Dead has not been horrible but it hasn’t been great either. I suppose I will see it through.

My church has been having an “At The Movies” series where they show clips from a movie and then teach around it. This week the movie was Instant Family. I was in tears. Now I have to see the entire movie.

Last night, we saw Once Upon a Time in… Hollywood. I was dreading one particular scene but it was shot in a completely different way. Refreshing. I really loved the movie.

New Things I’ve Tried:

I did a dumb thing the other day. We went out for lunch and I was served the most delicate, delicious looking egg roll. Many of you know that I have Celiac. Well, I took a bite. Let me tell you, it really was the most delicious thing but all this week my skin has been a mess and I know it’s from that. I couldn’t help it. I was weak and the last time I had an egg roll was ten years ago.

Grateful for:

Plants. I kill things. Easily. But at work I’ve been taking samples off of some of the plants in the community garden. Samples, cuttings? Anyway, I’ve been successful with them taking at work and it’s really made my work space quite pleasant. Do you have a green thumb?

In honor of the BBQ I will be attending today, where we will be enjoying burgers and hot dogs, what is your favorite thing to grill?
