Sunday Matters: Showtime (Almost)

Sunday Matters

Last night we celebrated my son’s 21st birthday with dinner out. It was a great meal and nostalgic for me because it’s a restaurant that I used to go to when I was in in my teens. This is a photo of him along with his sister.

My son and daughter.

This is production week for Little Shop of Horrors. You all know how involved my family is in theatre so you’ve rolled through all of it with me. It can be a very busy time but summer shows are so much easier and fun. Once again I am working backstage too. I am looking forward to it.

Right Now:

REST. I didn’t mention it but my daughter has been suffering from a massive headache for days now. Urgent Care diagnosed her with a sinus infection. Very hard to sing throughout an entire show, dance and not die from the pain. Hopefully, we caught it in time. If you are the praying type, please pray that she heals before showtime this Friday. Good thoughts are much appreciated as well.

Later today the high school ministry group is having a BBQ. I hope some of the girls from my group can go as it looks like fun.

This Week:

Production week. Enough said.

Reading:

I reviewed two books this week, The Summer Demands and The Scent Keeper.  I finished The Friends We Keep and hope to have that review up soon.

Next up? Never Have I Ever. I cannot wait to jump into this one!

Watching:

I’ve been watching a lot of Lakefront Bargain Hunt. Also, Hoarders although I have seen almost every episode now. Fear the Walking Dead has not been horrible but it hasn’t been great either. I suppose I will see it through.

My church has been having an “At The Movies” series where they show clips from a movie and then teach around it. This week the movie was Instant Family. I was in tears. Now I have to see the entire movie.

Last night, we saw Once Upon a Time in… Hollywood. I was dreading one particular scene but it was shot in a completely different way. Refreshing. I really loved the movie.

New Things I’ve Tried:

I did a dumb thing the other day. We went out for lunch and I was served the most delicate, delicious looking egg roll. Many of you know that I have Celiac. Well, I took a bite. Let me tell you, it really was the most delicious thing but all this week my skin has been a mess and I know it’s from that. I couldn’t help it. I was weak and the last time I had an egg roll was ten years ago.

Grateful for:

Plants. I kill things. Easily. But at work I’ve been taking samples off of some of the plants in the community garden. Samples, cuttings? Anyway, I’ve been successful with them taking at work and it’s really made my work space quite pleasant. Do you have a green thumb?

In honor of the BBQ I will be attending today, where we will be enjoying burgers and hot dogs, what is your favorite thing to grill?

  1. Your daughter sometimes doesn’t seem to have good luck with illness right before a show, does she? 😦 It seems like I remember this happening before? I was wondering about the new Tarantino movie. I probably won’t see it in the theaters, though. I’ll probably end up seeing it on DVD. Favorite things to grill: I don’t grill, my wife or neighbor usually does, but I always like hot dogs on the grill.

    1. Both kids seem to fall ill before a show. It’s the long rehearsals and the fact that you can’t miss any, even if sick so then everyone spreads whatever they have.

I didn’t think she was sick this time. I thought she had a migraine but the doc said otherwise. She’s still struggling.

  2. I can’t believe your son is eighteen! That has to be a typo. He’s eight, right?!

I’ve seen so many reviews in the last couple of weeks of Never Have I Ever. I hope you enjoy it, too.

I hope all goes well this week for you and your family.

  3. Good luck with the show; I know it is a combination of fun and exhaustion. I have felt nothing but relaxed since our return from vacation and it is wonderful. I have to work for a few hours tomorrow, but it’s not too bad.

    1. Yep. He’s twenty-one and keeps reminding me of it. I sure hope my daughter’s headache resolves itself here in the next day or two. I know the antibiotics continue to work their magic days after the last pill.

  4. Wow great picture of your kids. And good luck to all with the production. I’m hoping your daughter will feel better by then. I’m glad to know you liked the new Tarantino movie …. it sounds different. Is it really worth seeing?

    1. My daughter is still not 100% but you would not have known it by her performance. She was really quite amazing. The Tarantino movie is fabulous if you have a sense of humor and don’t take it too seriously. Some people just didn’t get the point of it but if you see it, then I will give you my full spiel as to why I thought it was fabulous.

  5. I love how involved, and talented, your kids are! High school years were not like that for my son; he could have been a great wrestler had he continued with the passion he exhibited his freshman year, but his interests divided into other avenues. I’m sure your daughter will pull through this adversity; sinus infections are terrible, but it’s good it was caught fairly early.

    1. I caught the infection in time for her to perform but she suffered for over 6 weeks. I just didn’t realize she was ill. She never had a fever or a cold or anything. Just that massive headache.
