Whatnot – 07/20/22

The Last ChairliftWell, I never did get to the beach last weekend. I totally forgot that my daughter had my car so I just stayed home and watched TV and read for a bit. It was 105 degrees so those activities suited me just fine.  I finished Beartown. I didn’t love it. I know that is an unpopular opinion but I really expected to love it. My review is here.

I wasn’t planning to read Irving’s new one until closer to its release date but how can you not read Irving when you have a review copy staring you in the face? It’s nearly 1000 pages so I am really looking forward to it. It’s been so long since I’ve read a chunkster. Click on the cover above to read more about the book.

I’ve been pretty busy and somewhat productive but I am in a weird mood. I get antsy if I sit still for too long but staring out into space is oddly comforting right now too. I try to balance the two! Work, work, work, stare off into space. Ha ha.

Tonight my book club was supposed to meet to discuss Crying in H Mart. However, a scheduling conflict came up so it looks like this meeting will happen, possibly, in September instead. I bought snacks from H Mart this past Saturday but I can always eat them myself. Ha!

There are so many awesome books coming out this fall. Which one do you have your eyes on?

Sunday Matters: Mentally Preparing

sunday-matters (1)
Happy Sunday, beautiful people. I really like the slower pace of summer but I do feel a little out of touch with you all. I’ve not been great with my blog reading. I will get back to that next week. I’ve been working on a project and it takes me away from my daily routine. I think I have a handle on it now, though.

What plans do you have for today? I am purposely keeping my plans simple this month as I am mentally preparing for that return to the office. There is a tiny part of me that wants to fit a lot in before I go back but after the shutdown I am easily overwhelmed by too much. I shall ease into it.

Right Now:

I have student ministry until about 1pm and then the day is wide open for lounging, reading, etc. I will enjoy my coffee and yogurt/granola bowl and head off.

Reading:

I finished It All Comes Down To This by Therese Anne Fowler. The review is here. It just didn’t work for me.

I finished Beartown. I need to write the review but I have to think about it a little more. I was really liking it and then at some point I fell out of love with it but then back to like. More thoughts later.

What will I read next? Crying in H Mart for book club. We meet this Wednesday and I really need to hop on it because I had trouble finding a copy.

Crying in H Mart

Watching:

We are still watching the Korean zombie show, Sweet Home. It’s not as well done as some of the other Korean dramas we’ve watched but it’s perfect to escape into without much thought. The pup does not like the zombie sounds.

Speaking of the pup, we watched the new Pet Sematary and she really did not like that movie. Church, the cat reminded her a little too much of Root Beer.

Grateful for:

  • After years of construction in my neighborhood and the streets being all torn up by large trucks, we are finally getting repaved. It makes everything look so nice and new. I hope the speed bumps go back in though because these people drive like crazy people.
  • Small, crossbody bags. Ever since the big Northridge quake I’d carry around these huge bags that I could literally live off of for days. But this back of mine can’t take it anymore so those cool crossbody bags are what I tote around now and it’s enough.

Have a wonderful Sunday! I am trying to enjoy every day leading up to my return to work on 8/9. It’s coming up fast.
