The Short of It:
The perfect read is the kind of read that has you putting off daily chores and taking extra coffee breaks to sneak in a page or two. The Wife Between Us is that kind of read.
The Rest of It:
In the beginning, the story seems pretty simple. One marriage ends and the husband from that marriage is about to marry again. The ex-wife has trouble accepting this and is jealous and very bothered by his new relationship. Is she still carrying a torch for the guy?
At first glance, it appears that way. If you read The Anonymous Girl, also by these same authors, you’d know that nothing is really what it seems.
I really can’t say much without giving things away but I like this type of book. I like books that keep you guessing. Many times I found myself putting the book down to ask myself, “What the heck?” At times, I re-read pages. Other times, I read quickly to get to the plot twist. I was eager to know how it would end and that is the perfect book for this time of the year when school is coming to a close but summer has not yet begun. Yes, definitely a good distraction read.
Have you read it? A lot of people ask me if I liked the ending. Let’s just say that I didn’t see it coming. Good, right?

I’ve heard a lot of good things about Pekkanen and Hendrick’s collaborations and I have a few of them here. I don’t know why I haven’t picked one up yet.
I think you would enjoy the books but not sure you’d care for the endings. You are more matter-of-fact. You’ll have to read one and let me know if I am right.
I liked this one, too!
I’ve read Sarah Pekkanen before — she’s a local Maryland author who comes to our local festival in Gaithersburg whenever she has a new book. Her books are usually different, so I think maybe the plot twists are a bit more the other author’s doing? I really don’t know per se, but these ones intrigue me.
That could be. I heard that one author was more women’s lit so maybe the other is more psychological thriller.
Yes, that ending was a huge surprise! Glad you liked it!
I liked The Anonymous Girl much more than this one. I found this one to be too predictable and expected more from it. I love these kinds of stories though = they are always fun and keep you reading late into the night. I just finished the new Ruth Ware – OMG!! It was amazing – you have to read it 🙂 Anyhow, I’m glad you enjoyed this one.
So, I need to read Ruth Ware?
You thought this one was predictable? Did you see that end coming?
I loved this book and thought early on I knew what was going on. I didn’t though and the ending was awesome!
The ending I really didn’t see coming. I had it all in my head it was going to go down a different way.
I read this last year and liked it. Definitely a twisty tale – not sure if you were up or down or backwards or forwards. Glad it worked for you and now I’m trying to remember the ending. I listened to it on audio. Might have to listen again. Ha!
The name changes threw me way off but I was okay with it.
I feel like no one is going to “win” in this book given the relationships. Neither my ex nor I has remarried and I often wonder how it would feel if he had, especially soon after our divorce even though I was the one who initiated. This one sounds good.
I think it makes a world of difference of difference when you have kids. If the ex remarries, you kind of have to make it work for the sake of the kid. Especially if they are young and this other person will also be raising them. You would enjoy this book. It’s just fun to read and keeps you guessing constantly.
This was their first collaboration. I wasn’t sure I wanted to read it because Sarah’s novels tend to be in the hit-or-miss category for me, and I am less likely to read women’s lit these days since I tend not to enjoy it. I am so glad I gave it a chance though. That ending came out of nowhere, and I love that. I loved the characters and really the whole story. I thought their second collaboration was just as well-written too.
The ending surprised me as well. I like when it’s not predictable and I also appreciate that there weren’t any obvious red herrings. I HATED Gone Girl for all the stuff she threw at me over and over again.
Yes I think I need this book this summer. Sounds like you couldnt put it down. These two authors seem to be on a roll. I’ll get to it!
Oh yes! The Wife Between Us was pretty darn good. It was one of those fun, page-turners that make you skip dinner and the like.
