My Favorite Reads: Best of 2018

Best of 2018: My Favorite Reads

I always preface these posts by saying that even though this is a “Best of” list, it’s a list of my personal favorites and may not be recently released books or even books released in 2018. I often read new books along with older ones I’ve been meaning to get to. That said, here is what I read and loved this year:

Rainbirds

Rainbirds by Clarissa Goenawan

A Gentleman in Moscow

A Gentleman in Moscow by Amor Towles

Tin Man

Tin Man by Sarah Winman

Killing Commendatore

Killing Commendatore by Haruki Murakami

Becoming

Becoming by Michelle Obama

My list is pretty short this year as my reading was down overall, but I think this is a pretty solid bunch.

  1. I love these lists!

I joined Audible.com and purchased A Gentleman in Moscow, Rules of Civility (also Towles) and Killing C. (love Murakami’s audios). I’ll be in good shape for 2019 listening.

I remembered you said you liked Gentleman in Moscow and my friend just said it was the best audio ever!

I didn’t enjoy Tin Man all that much (maybe it was a timing issue – it
happens). Happy Reading in 2019 and Happy New Year!

  2. A Gentleman in Moscow is on my shelves for me to read in 2019; I’ve heard such good things about it. And, I just finished Becoming this week and thought it was super interesting.

    1. Too bad about Tin Man. I know the subject matter could be sensitive to some too. It worked for me though.

Rainbirds was great but perhaps it’s because it reminded me so much of Murakami. Could be.

    1. Well, there have been Murakami books that I didn’t love too. It takes so long for his books to hit the US too so years go by without him making the list.

  3. I picked up the Murakami book recently on an Amazon deal. I’m going to try it – maybe sooner rather than later. We’ll see. I also want to read Becoming. 2019 is going to be a good reading year for me. I insist upon it. LOL

    1. Very excited that you are giving Murakami a try!!

      You will love Becoming.

2019 will be a good reading year for me because I need to read in order to escape.

  4. Tin Man made my favorites list too. It seemed powerfully told. I’m looking forward to Michelle Obama’s book!

  5. I haven’t read any of these books yet but I want to read “Tin Man” and “Rainbirds.” I’ve been reading a lot of books that came out a few years ago or earlier lately so I haven’t been all that in touch with the stuff that is popular now. 🙂
