Sunday Matters: Time

Sunday Matters

The other day, a work meeting was cancelled and the email that went out said to consider it a gift of time. Amen. I can’t tell you how happy that made me feel. It made me realize that I am not alone in thinking that time is a valuable thing.

Right Now:

I am just sitting here watching the news and will be heading out soon to begin my day. My daughter is loving avocado toast these days so maybe she will share some with me. Maybe not.

This Week:

Not much going on this week outside of my norm which is good. We do have a parent/player meeting for club volleyball but I know her coaches are finishing out their semester at college so I’m not sure who will be representing her team.

My son took an additional job on top of the seasonal retail job he picked up so he will be a Toy Soldier on stilts at Six Flags as well as working retail. I am not sure how the stilt thing will work. Dancing…on stilts with no experience. He leaves for Disney in January so I hope he’s careful.  This additional job makes it difficult to plan our holiday traditions. I am almost positive he will be working Thanksgiving day which absolutely blows. No one should have to work on Thanksgiving day.

Reading:

I’ve been a tiny bit distracted so my reading took a hit this week but I am just starting Keep Her Safe by Sophie Hannah.

Watching:

I watched the first episode of Stranger Things, Season 2 and I thought it was a little slow.

American Horror Story is plugging along but it’s nearly over and I don’t feel as if there’s been much of a story.

The Walking Dead is staggering all over the place trying to keep their audience but the writing hasn’t been good this season.

For mindless TV, I watch Chrisley Knows Best. It’s scripted but Todd’s mother is hilarious and needs her own show.

Making:

I made baked chicken and rice, tacos, and there will be pizza and gluten-free corn dogs at some point. Corn dogs!! Totally not good for you but easy and no one complains. I wish they would sell corn dogs like the ones at Hot Dog on a Stick… the ones with cheese in them. Why don’t they?

Grateful for:

My smart little Otter Pup. She got into my tinted lip balm and I was worried because it was shredded all to heck and I was so worried about the plastic she consumed. However, after some searching we found all the pieces AND she did not get one speck of that colored balm on the carpet.

The Otter Pup

She was mad because we went to IN N OUT and she did not get a treat.

Since the holidays are upon us, what is the one book you would love to get as a gift? I would love a copy of A Little Life. I’ve read it and loved it but I want my own copy. I would also like an entire set of Murakami books but I am waiting for some cool covers because the cover art always changes.

  1. No one should have to work on Thanksgiving. It’s my favorite holiday of the year. It’s about food and family. The best.

  2. Now that sounds as though you had a normal week…relatively? Your kids do provide you with challenges to your schedules. Otter pup and lip balm? That is too funny! Roxie will consume anything plastic so we have to be extremely careful…no more pulling off tags in this house…she will find and eat them!

I have not been in a cooking mood…this week…two major appliance deliveries and cleaning the kitchen and floor after each one did us in. Yesterday practically the entire day was spent on getting refrigerators in and out…unloaded and reloaded…exhausting!

  3. Oh, the holidays are NOT for working…LOL. But sometimes we have no choice.

In retirement, I do enjoy the luxury of time. There are still tedious tasks, though, like house cleaning, etc.

I enjoyed Keep Her Safe. Sophie Hannah is one of my go-to mystery authors. I have The Storied Life on my Kindle…it has been there a LONG time…hope to read it soon.

    Your puppy is adorable!

Enjoy your week, and here are MY WEEKLY UPDATES

  4. Sounds like a sort of relaxing week coming up–leading into the holidays that’s a good thing. I hope this week goes quickly since my daughter will come home Friday or Saturday!

  5. Your Thanksgiving will most likely be our Christmas with Iowa State going to a bowl game. The marching band will be going as well, so Connor home for the December holidays will all depend on which bowl game they get. It’s frustrating and yet exciting for the school.

I really want the latest translation of The Odyssey. It’s a beautiful book visually, and I have heard nothing but amazing things about the translation by the first female translator.

  6. I watched the first episode of Stranger Things, Season 2 and thought the same thing you did, don’t know if I’ll continue or not. Otter Pup is so cute! I don’t know yet if I have to work on Thanksgiving or not. I should have stayed retired lol!

  7. I agree no one should work on Thanksgiving at all. I think that’s horrible. I refuse to shop on that day or go out. It’s not fair to others if I’m spending money and making them work. I boycott every Thanksgiving.

My dog is too good; she never gets into stuff like that but I remember those days well with my Charlee…Gosh he tried to eat everything. lol

Nothing buy more busyness here until Dec. 15 when everything will hopefully be done…

  8. Otter Pup looks so sweet. Does she like to ride in the car, or no? Our dog likes to lick our plates after dinner, which we allow since we are weak on denying her this. Her utter happiness is food, she is a Lab after all. Luckily, she doesn’t get into destroying things much. Otter Pup probably wanted her own burger. 🙂

    1. The Otter Pup likes long car rides because she knows she is going on vacation with us but short car rides cause her a bit of anxiety. I think if we took her more often on short trips she’d be fine. I mean, she can be in the car for three hours and settles in quite nicely after about 20 min.

  9. Hmmm, the one book I would want? That’s always a tough one – any time I go to a book store just to browse, I know that I will only buy one book (because, truly, I don’t need any more than that!) and I often walk out without a book because I just can’t decide on one book! I think this year it would be a print copy of Lincoln In The Bardo which I loved but read from Netgalley.

  10. Oof, working on Thanksgiving day is rough. I hope y’all are still able to figure out some holiday plans — although in fact Thanksgiving is not my very most preferred of holidays. I want to make some mulled wine this year, but the weather is NOT cooperating. You really can’t do mulled wine when it’s still (*checks weather*) eighty degrees out. :p
