I love how Stephen King’s IT is getting so much attention now with the new movie and all but I can’t tell you how many people are not aware of the book!! Even the news anchors are like, “What is the deal with the balloon? Can someone tell us what it means?” GOODNESS. Please read the book! I do plan to see the movie but I have to see it with the right people.
Right Now:
Do I even need to say it? Yep. Still no AC. I am getting used to being a sweaty mess though and the threat of Irma, for so many people I know, has been distracting me. I can’t complain about temperature when so many fear for their safety right now. Perspective.
In a little while we will hit church and then later I’ll be back there to hang with the high schoolers.
This Week:
Music Man rehearsals start on Monday. The Girl has been busy with volleyball and all the other stuff she is doing but I can tell she’s ready for rehearsals again. That girl is always singing and kicking her legs around.
The Boy, The Lad, Evan… he is in limbo waiting for stuff to happen. Applications for things are in, his community arts proposal presentation is coming up, school is in full swing but he did not get into one of the classes he needs so now he has a huge gap in his schedule.
Me? I am feeling a little antsy lately. I feel as if I need to be doing something different. A creative “something” is missing from my life. Or, I haven’t found my true purpose. Or, I want to ditch it all and head for the beach. Yeah, definitely that.
Reading:
I’ve been reading all sorts of stuff in an attempt to catch-up. I finished and reviewed A Stranger in the House. I finished Lincoln in the Bardo and need to write the review. I am almost done with My Absolute Darling and I am about to begin Bird Box and Into the Water.
Plus, I am posting a read-along announcement on Monday for the new King book. Look for it!
Watching:
For #RIPII I watched The Conjuring. A really good, scary ghost story.
I watched Episode #1 of American Horror Story: Cult and it was very good and also extremely disturbing. Clowns people!! Trump too. It’s so cringy!
I believe Fear the Walking Dead starts up again tonight. There is also a preview for the new season of The Walking Dead which I plan to at least record for later.
Making:
I really need to figure out what I am doing wrong. I don’t have a lot of time to plan meals but when I go shopping it’s always a very expensive trip and I often don’t even have enough to make three meals. I don’t mind the cooking but the shopping really makes me unhappy. I feel like I need to strip it all down to the basics. Protein, veggie, carb. It’s boring but you should see the stuff that ends up in my cart!! Aged Gouda, which I promptly forget about and then have to throw away. Or fancy bread that the kids don’t eat fast enough before it turns moldy.
Grateful for:
The return of my fall TV shows. With everything going on in the world, there is absolutely nothing wrong with crashing on the couch while watching some good TV.
What’s your one guilty pleasure right now?
It’s too bad you and Sandy can’t get together to see It. I know what you mean about feeling antsy – let me know if you figure things out.
I’m still feeling antsy. It’s like “earthquake” antsy. How I felt before our last big quake although I certainly hope it’s not that.
I feel that way often. It’s like excess nervous energy that I don’t know what to do with. Maybe a new hobby will help?
I’m the same with meals and shopping. I was finding that I was spending a lot of time in grocery lines. I had to make a rule that if my family doesn’t tell me what they want before I go, they have to wait until whenever I plan my next trip. No special trips! But now I am running out of milk all the time. I have to figure out what’s going on there.
The only milk drinker in my house is my husband. So weird. I don’t know many adults who guzzle milk these days. The rest use almond milk which is more shelf stable so I can stock up and use it when I need to and not be out, hardly ever.
I am still feeling the nervous antsy thing. I keep waking up with this feeling of dread but I can’t quite put my finger on why I am feeling this way.
Football is my guilty pleasure! I know that I should be boycotting the NFL (for, like, a lot of reasons), but it’s just such a treat to have football back on my screens that I haven’t managed to start doing it yet.
Football and this time of year kind of go hand in hand. It would be hard to give up and I am not even a huge sports fan.
I think it’s the time of year…Fall is an antsy time…I want to forage and I don’t even know why! I want to pull out the slow cooker and make soups! I crave pumpkin muffins and apples and cider and cheddar cheeses! It’s cooler here too…not cold just cool…long sleeves and shorts are my uniform! I just ordered 6 new long sleeved sleepshirts! My guilty pleasure is watching Big Brother! And reading tons of YA fantasy!
I love that you are craving all those things now. I made a pot roast last night in the Crock Pot. I have some for lunch today too. It was 95 degrees but oh well.
Can I ditch everything and go to the beach too? I have been feeling similarly, and I can’t seem to shake it.
I hope you get your AC fixed soon. I don’t know if your weather is anything like ours, but it does seem to be starting to cool down. At least after tomorrow . . . I’m not sure it will last though.
I hope you have a good week, Ti!
We had a few cooler nights but yesterday was hot again and pouring rain so we had to shut the windows which made it unbearable. I was not happy. The guy claims he is fixing it today but I have no confidence after so many attempts.
It sounds like you are on a reading roll these days! You’ve finished a lot lately. But what’s this about the AC — it’s still not fixed? Where’s the fix-it people? Man it sounds sweaty there. Good luck to the Girl with Music Man! & Volleyball. Your kids are terrific. Oh and did you hear? The IT movie took in a whopping $117.2 million this weekend. OH MY! Clowns everywhere. I should read the book first I know.
The fix-it people have been backlogged since our 115 heatwave over Labor Day weekend. The guy who installed it took all last week to diagnose the problem and today he is supposed to fix it but I have no confidence it will be done right. I wanted to go with someone else. I mean, we still have to pay for this lemon so why not get someone else? I am worried about it. We already had it leak through the ceiling twice already.
IT did amazingly well at the box office. I was supposed to see it but it’s too crowded for my tastes right now. I will see it next week. I don’t think reading the book first is necessary but it’s such a good read.
Can’t wait to hear what you think of My Absolute Darling…I put it down at probably 5% and haven’t picked it back up
I am almost done with My Absolute Darling. It’s not a book you can blow through easily. So heavy and disturbing. My feelings are all over the place. I hope to post the review early next week.
I don’t believe in guilty pleasures! I know it sounds flippant to say that, but I do think that if something brings you pleasure – even sitting on the couch and vegging out – then you should never feel guilty about it. Sing that one-hit wonder at the top of your lungs. Read that bodice ripper. Watch reality TV. Life is too difficult to feel guilty for a little bit of pleasure.
I tend to agree but I always have a dozen other things that need to be done.
I know. I understand that. But the things that need to be done somehow always get done, don’t they?
Lately, no. Not for me. A first.
Boo. I’m sorry. I hope you figure out whatever has you so unsettled these days and can find some peace!
I have been in the house because of Irma. I live in Albany GA we didn’t get the hurricane but we did get the tropical storm. My family and I came through okay.
So, so glad that you are okay. I know another blogger who evacuated Florida for Atlanta and was still without power as of yesterday. I guess you can’t really tell how it will affect you until it does.
I haven’t read anything for a month, it definitely feels wrong. And I am so behind on reading other people’s blogs. Today is a catch up day now that the AVON walk is done.
Yay for you on completing the Avon walk!!
I know what you mean about something feeling off when you aren’t reading. It always feel so scattered. I don’t know how people can NOT read something.
Ugh, the meals! The hubby decided a couple years ago that he wanted to take over the shopping because he thought he could save money. The problem is that he doesn’t shop based on a menu, or build a menu around the sale things, he just buys the sale things. So I have a freezer full of meat (which I have to work to make sure I use before it gets freezer burned) but tonight when I wanted to make lasagna, there was no tomato sauce which I always kept on stock.
I am forever without tomato sauce or canned tomatoes. I buy and they disappear. I have no idea what happens to them.
I spent $200 this weekend being very mindful of what I was buying but it only provides for three dinners. We can eat out for that. No?
I haven’t been watching TV. Sad, I know. I think everyone should read IT because it is one of King’s best books. They are missing out. I had blue apron for a while and really liked it when I had time to cook the recipes but when I have little time to do it, i end up throwing out stuff. wasteful and I hate it.
I hope you guys are settled into a new place before the holidays hit. Is that the plan?
