It’s not officially summer but with school out for both kids it sure feels like it. The university however is year-round so once the spring semester ended we went right into summer term. The campus is nice and quiet though and there are many lovely reading spots to be had as long as you don’t mind being attacked by a squirrel (it has happened twice).
Totally random but after my lip swelling incident I cannot find a lip product (gloss, lipstick or balm) that I can wear without another allergy attack. The only color I put on my face comes from lipstick so without color I look like a corpse. Please help with suggestions if you have any.
Right Now:
At this moment I am eating toast and sipping coffee while watching the news. Today is a big day for the student ministry because my 8th grade group moves up to high school. I am moving with them so there is change all around but it’s kind of exciting.
This Week:
This is the week before two weeks of Shrek, The Musical so I am going to just ease into it. It’s a busy time but since my daughter doesn’t have a lead, the call times are a little easier to manage and working backstage is always a lot of fun and yes, a little hectic sometimes. Crawling across the floor to get props to a kid while ripping my pants will always be a highlight for me.
For this week, rest, life group (hopefully) and a pesky dental appointment for The Girl.
Reading:
I am starting Do Not Be Alarmed which sounds really good from the blurb. I am also working on my summer reading list. I’ve seen two lists so far across the blogging world and I am so anxious to get my list together. I am also drooling over all the books from BEA. The covers!! I am a cover snob and the covers this year are just so good. How can I turn them down?
Watching:
Not watching anything actively but I am in the mood to watch Some Like It Hot. It’s playing on the big screen right now in some theaters and I have it recorded so it will most likely be watched soon. If you haven’t seen this Monroe movie, you must!
Making:
I saw a video recipe for lemon butter chicken which looks great! I would love to make for dinner tonight. I love these short cooking videos because they are often easy to copy and give me lot of ideas about what to cook next. I love to cook but TIME is a beast I’ve not successfully beat as of yet.
I am really wanting one of these Rhubarb Mint Juleps.

Grateful for:
I am an open book when it comes to feelings but you’d be amazed at how many people I interact with that haven’t a clue how difficult this past year has been for me. But then there are some who don’t even know me that well and they just know what to say and when to say it and I am thankful for them.
Your dinner looks lovely and I yearn for a yummy sweetish alcoholic drink…soon! I hope your summer stays controlled…and relaxed…and peaceful! Summer…for me…is a time to just read and swing on a hammock…I pray that ours is uneventful. Our weather is amazing and Den and I are just chilling.
So your weather finally allowed for a little sun? Hammock? You have a hammock? I secretly want one but wonder if I’d use it.
Wishing you a calm and relaxing summer, Tina. I love reading you Sunday Matters blog.
Both my mom and sister have issues with allergies to lip products and neither one of them have found anything that works for them. I’m pretty sure they’ve given up by now.
Super frustrating because I’ve never had a sensitivity to lip products before.
Look for Nivea lip balm with tint. I’m addicted to it and hopefully will be hypoallergenic. If that doesn’t work then you should go with Clinique. Good luck!!!!
I got a brand new Clinique lipstick to try and it made my lip swell but I am going to give it a go again in a week or two. I think my lip was still recovering when I tried it.
I haven’t tried the Nivea tinted balms. I used to use the balms years ago and never had a problem but man, i am desperate for a little color. I will give it a go.
Ooh, that Rhubarb Mint Julep looks delicious! Wish I could help you with a lip product suggestion… I’ve had a few that made my lips tingle, but nothing more sever than that – thankfully.
That drink really does look amazing. I love juleps and this is a unique take on the traditional drink. I made the lemon chicken which was very good but needed like an additional hour to be really good. I did not have the drink though. Yet.
Mouse still has two weeks left of school. I know she’s excited about the summer, but not so much saying goodbye to her teacher and friends. I hope you have a nice quiet week before the show starts next week. It sounds like it will be a busy but fun time.
Have a great week, Ti.
Your daughter will be a little sad on that last day. Quite unlike my daughter who cheered but then said she’d miss her friends. Except nearly all of her friends will be going to the same high school as her and they start school so early out here that the school year will be here before she knows it.
My sister is the same way with lip products. For some reason, her lips just swell up. We always joke that she just had lip injections. I don’t know what it is that makes it happen. She keeps trying any new lip products that come out though – she’s convinced she will find one that will work. I’ll let you know if she does 🙂 And I know what you mean about some people just knowing what to say when you need it most, while the ones you would think would say it don’t. It definitely makes you thankful for those people 🙂 Hope you have a great week!!
My lip swells to the point of splitting which then needs additional time to heal. Which basically sucks.
My weekend was good. Pouring the coffee into myself this morning so that I can resemble a somewhat normal human. How are you doing? I didn’t track food this weekend and I am feeling the effect of it. Back on track this morning.
Sorry I can’t help you, I don’t wear lip balm. I hope you find a product soon that agrees with you!
I’ll confess I wear Baby Lips by Maybelline because it’s soft and doesn’t irritate my lips, and they have a version with SPF 15. I hope your daughter has a great couple of weeks doing Shrek! My daughter got home yesterday. Even though we’re adjusting to having each other in our space again, itt does feel great to have her with me!
I’ve seen Baby Lips but have yet to try it. I didn’t realize they had tinted versions but I see that they do.
Enjoy your daughter!! Hope you guys have fun!
Some Like It Hot is one of my favorite old movies. I never stop giggling.
I actually studied Some Like It Hot when I was a film student. It’s a great movie for so many different reasons. I think it’s one of Marilyn’s best and Jack Lemmon is so damn funny.
Oh I’m trying to think up my summer reading list too. A lot of books, maybe I’ll write down 15 on the list. I hope you’re doing all right, maybe your summer will be calmer. This Thurs I’m heading to Redlands to see my folks — it looks to be warm in Southern Cal now eh? I’ll be flying into Palm Springs.
It was close to 100 by me this past weekend. I imagine it’s a bit warmer in Palm Springs. However, they haven’t gotten their big heat wave yet.
I hope my summer is calmer. We have two shows going but really only three weeks of production week between the two of them.
Ha be you tried Bite Beauty lipstick? Their natural products and available at sephora. The only downside is since there’s no preservative they tend to expire on the quick side
I haven’t tried Bite lipsticks yet. My lip is looking pretty good now so I am thinking about testing some of these products out this weekend.
I don’t think I’ve ever had a mint julep. Have you tried Burt’s Bees lip gloss? Perhaps you have. I like it.
Enjoy easing into the show mania and all the other changes. I am trying to do the same, but I’m pre-occupied with my own reading of my own poetry in front of people this Sunday, June 11.
Mint Juleps are so refreshing if you love mint!
I am trying Burt’s Bees colored lip balm today. So far, so good but two weeks ago my lip was swelling with it.
