Me, Right Now

Me Right Now

Hello, all. Just thought I’d stop by to let you all know what I’m up to.

Not much.

I’ve been reading a thickish book and it’s taking me longer to read it than I thought it would (Summer of Night). It’s good but it’s slowing me down and my other reading is taking a backseat because of it. There are so many books I want to get to right now.

Also, I’m adjusting to having a college aged kid. He works a ton of hours and when he is off, he goes to school so we hardly see him. I was horrified to learn that he might have to work on Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving!!! Our day of PJs is in jeopardy. It’s like a very different world right now and it’s weird.

I find myself in this pensive mood lately. Quiet. Thoughtful. Pensive. Everything seems to have meaning to me. It’s a tad exhausting to be thinking all the time but I’ve been doing it. Maybe it’s my age. Maybe it’s just THAT time of year. It’s not a bad place to be in but time slips away from me and before I know it, another week has passed.

And, for whatever reason, I’ve lost all craving for meat. I seem to only want vegetables. This happened to me in my 20s and that led to a vegetarian, sometimes vegan diet for a good three years. Will it happen again? I wonder if it has to do with my iron levels being normal now.

That’s basically it. Things are good and quiet but different. How about you? What is going on with you right now?

  1. I think it’s that time of the year. We are all getting ready to hop on the merry-go-round of the holiday season. And it’s always a whirlwind. For me, I’m finalizing the books for my first lecture of the season. Two weeks. And I still have a couple books to finish. I get tense. My husband doesn’t understand it:) So it’s really crazy busy around here. And we’re getting read for the holiday at the store…. All good. Just challenging. People should NOT have to work on Thanksgiving. It’s just not right. When one person in a family works, it changes the dynamics for all. I will keep my fingers crossed he does not have to work. Happy he has a job, though.

    1. I imagine that getting a bookstore ready for the holidays is a lot of fun but also a lot of work! How is the job going?

We have always been a family of traditions so working around them this year will be interesting.

    1. Yes. I’m sure it’s that. My daughter is trying to zero in on what sport she wants to do in high school. She is talking about cheer but I told her with that, I am not sure she can do choir, theatre and everything else she wants to do. Nope. Not doing it. Just thinking about her in high school makes me twitchy.

  2. I’ve been rather pensive lately, too. I think its the time of year – holiday season, a new year approaching, a new President, etc. For you, its probably the time of year and that Evan is now in college and The Girl is now The Teen – so much growing up happening right now! Plus, he might work Thanksgiving – talk about change! Oh, and that huge book is bogging down your reading, so that doesn’t help either. Hope you have a good weekend!!

    1. I made a lot of progress with that big book I mentioned. It got super good too, which helped. I just feel the need to do and read so many things right now. I hate having to do stuff like WORK and chores. I just want to sip coffee, read, visit museums and walk on the beach. Is that too much to freakin’ ask for?

  3. Kids with jobs at holidays suck! I hate that places are open on the major holidays – seriously, we can all get along just fine without almost everything for one damn day! We are looking at a new gym and they are open on the holidays. Seriously?

Pensive isn’t too surprising with the change in your life, the things going on in the country, plus life’s usual goings on. I’ve been trying to chase the thoughts in my head away as much as I can – I can get crazy if I’m not careful!

    1. Yeah. Some days I spend staring off into space. Some I spend in manic thought and some I spend wishing I could take a nap. So much can be fixed with a nap.

  4. I think it is the time of year as well as the changes in your situation, i.e. Evan in college. I find myself more pensive at just the thought of my baby in college!

  5. It might be a combination of the time of year, the changes at home with the college kid, and the age. The election also may be playing a role in all that thinking you’re doing. I don’t blame you though. I’ve been picking up books I don’t have to think too hard about because my brain power is being used thinking about other things.

I hope he doesn’t have to work on the holiday and that you have a great weekend.

    1. If it wasn’t for the ridiculous amount of political junk I’ve been getting, the election would be out of my mind completely. I already voted so there’s nothing to really fret about until we know the results.

I need a really good chunkster to suck me in. Or maybe I will finally read the last Murakami (non-fiction) that I’ve been holding back just for such a mood.

  6. I’ve been reading mostly romance novels because I can’t take anything more taxing. This election is turning my brain into mush! I’ll be so relieved when it’s over and we can start (oh God I hope we can start) talking about other things and hopefully I can stop being angry and anxious ALL THE TIME.

On the other hand, my romance novels have been very delightful. 😀

    1. I think this election angst is going to go on for awhile. I fear that the loser will call fraud and that there will be some big investigation. My ballot came so late and then I got a second one. My husband got two as well. Just doesn’t seem like things went smoothly this year in that regard.

  7. That’s terrible your son has to work on Thanksgiving. Ugh. Not right. Is he attending a college nearby? It sounds exciting; I hope he likes it. I feel pensive too lately; I think it’s the season and an injury to my arm — that has stopped my tennis playing. Not happy about that but what can you do? The injury could last months. Boo.

    1. We just got word that he will NOT have to work Thanksgiving!!! I am so happy about that. He has to work before it and all that weekend but not that Thursday.

Elbow injuries take forever to heal. I had tennis elbow once but it wasn’t from playing the game. I held a heavy book weird and when it slipped out of my hand it pulled on something. Took over 6 months to heal but I skipped physical therapy which would have probably helped.
