The Sunday Salon: Happy Father’s Day!

Sunday Salon

It’s Sunday, it’s Father’s Day and it’s the beginning of production week for Beauty and the Beast. It’s a very busy week so today, we are celebrating at home. A little bit of reading, lots of movie watching and later I plan to grill-up some tri-tip for dinner.

The Hub is not a fan of picture-taking, so I am sneaking this pic in from a couple of years back.  Happy Father’s Day!

What am I reading?

I am reading Big Brother by Lionel Shriver. I am also about to start The Slippage by Ben Greenman.

What am I cooking?

Later I am grilling up a bunch of yumminess: tri-tip, chicken breast, hot links, corn and then whipping up some garlic mashed potatoes and chocolate cake!

What am I watching?

I just finished watching We Bought a Zoo. What a wonderful movie. Now, I want to read the book. I think later we’ll watch Mr. Mom (yep, from the 80’s!) or Dream House with Daniel Craig. Yesterday, we saw Man of Steel and it was pretty good.

What are you doing today?

  1. Enjoy your day at home. We’re headed to visit my parents in a couple of hours – I have a blackberry buttermilk cake in the oven now. It’s a new recipe, so fingers crossed it turns out well!

  2. I was wondering about your husband. I thought I never saw him here…and that’s why, because I’ve never seen him here…until today. 😉 Hope he’s enjoying his day…and you and the kids are too. 🙂

  3. We watched Dream House and were really disappointed with it. Good Lord, how many times are we going to be sold that bill of goods? But see what you think. We are grilling flank steak tonight on the grill, with corn on the cob. And my husband’s wonderful concoctions for happy hour. Hope you all have a great day and good luck next week!

  4. Mr. Mom! I haven’t seen that in forever. I love that movie. Where is Michael Keaton nowadays? We need more of him in the world if you ask me.

Happy Daddy’s Day to your hubby. Your dinner sounds crazy good, hope you enjoyed it!

  5. Reading your post about grilling gave me a little motivation…I just returned from the grocery store where I picked up some veggies, brats, chips, potato salad, and baked beans. Sounds like a great Father’s Day meal to me.
I also took my girls and my mom to see 42 at the dollar theatre- it was amazing! (My husband was sore from digging up our sidewalk yesterday and decided relaxing on the couch watching the US Open sounded more his speed today)

  6. My husband hates having his photo shown too!! I’m actually recovering from having a little too much fun at an open house last night! but it’s all good because the hubby is working nights so I was able to make his meal and cake later in the afternoon!! 😀

    1. I never did get to The Slippage this weekend but I did finish Big Brother. Brother isn’t a book you can easily read along with others. Now that I’ve finished, Slippage…here I come!

    1. I’ve noticed that many of the bloggers I follow seem to be taking the summer off so don’t feel bad about not reading. It’s not like when we were kids and summer meant we could drop everything to read. I SO wish we could but work tends to get in the way.
