My Friday Mumbo Jumbo Post

It’s been one heck of a week. If I don’t laugh, I’ll cry.

I had a particularly bad gluten reaction and now my entire upper palate is falling apart. The pain in my mouth is unbearable. And although I am on all sorts of medication, I am barely able to get a handle on it. That’s all I’ll say as I’ve been spouting off about it on Facebook. I just keep reminding myself that others have it worse.

Speaking of others, I heard from Amy’s husband. She is a blogger over at The House of Seven Tails. Many of you also know Amy so I wanted to let you know that she is in the ICU battling a bad lung infection. She could use some prayers and some positive thoughts right now. She’s had a difficult year and I’m hoping that she will be able to return home soon.

Tonight, The Boy has a choir performance. The last one of the school year. We are all looking forward to it. It will be nice to end the week with something fun.

This weekend? Nothing. How wonderful is that? I just want to read, cook and regroup. My house has been without food all week long and when the kiddies can’t even make a PB&J sandwich, you know it’s time to venture out and stock-up.

On the reading front, I just finished Mr. Peanut by Adam Ross. I really liked it. It was totally whacked but I loved it.  Review to follow. I am also reading A Constellation of Vital Phenomena by Anthony Marra. It’s a really slow read for me, but I am enjoying it. In between these books I picked up The Lake House by Marci Nault and I find myself totally absorbed when reading it.

What do you have planned for the weekend? What will you read? I am tempted to see the new Star Trek movie but probably won’t get to it this weekend. It will be something to look forward to.

  1. God that sounds awful. I saw where you were talking about everything moving around in your mouth (a recurring nightmare of mine). And I will keep Amy in my prayers. That girl has had a terrible time of it the last few years, and she has such a kind soul. All I know about this weekend is that the men are going to the panhandle fishing and my daughter and I are on our own, which probably means shopping, dining and movies. If she manages to be pleasant that is.

  2. Aw, hope you are feeling better soon. I heard about Amy and have some extra prayers headed her way, too. It’ll probably be a quiet weekend here. My husband has gone to Omaha for a family memorial service, Twin A will be working, Twin B is going to a friend’s graduation… guess I’ll just stay home and read 🙂

  3. I heard about Amy and I am thinking of her and hope she gets better soon. I hope that you do as well; I’ve noticed your posts about your palate. I’ll be extremely busy this weekend with the poetry panel I’m moderating and Anna’s daughter’s soccer game on Sunday.

  4. We are having a similar week, but different. WT is home for two days and we have had to cancel all plans since I’m contagious (update on fb). This is giving me time to nap, read blogs, nap.

I have had 30+ canker sores in my mouth a few times so I know how painful they are. Did you Dr give you liquid lidocaine? I get this to gargle so I can eat. For me it’s hormonal (since I was a teen), I know it’s linked to sugar. Rest up.

Maybe I can read this weekend!

    1. Liquid lidocaine? Sounds like heaven. I had forgotten about that but I used it when I caught hand, foot, mouth from the girl. This time, they only gave me codeine. They offered stoner meds but they don’t work for me. Codeine works for about an hour.

The swelling has gone down a but now my front teeth ares zinging. The nerves are all of out whack on that ones side. I just don’t want to lose teeth over this.

Your yellow fever thing is rather scary. If a shot did this to you, can you imagine what the real thing would do? So is your next adventure Africa?

  5. Hope the mouth gets to feeling better soon! I can’t believe that came from a supposedly gluten-free product.

Thanks for the update on Amy; I’ve been worried since she hasn’t been posting and that usually means she’s having problems again. She’ll definitely be in my prayers.
