Thanksgiving Eve

Pumpkin Painting 2012
The Girl painted this!

After three days of dental appointments and still a couple more to go, I am glad to be home and in the kitchen prepping for the big meal. Finally. The Girl is off from school so we’re making the meal together. The Boy will join us later and The Hub is at work.

So far I’ve made:

Two Apple Pie-lets (small pies for The Boy who does not like Pumpkin pie)
The cornbread for the Caramelized Onion and Sage Dressing
The Marshmallow salad (The Girl’s specialty, think Ambrosia)
Sweet Potato Soufflé

I still have to make:

2 Pumpkin Pies
The Gluten-Free rolls (rising as I type this)
Green Beans with Bacon, Feta and Tomatoes
Brussels Sprouts with a Balsamic Reduction
Mashed Potatoes
Creamed Spinach
The Turkey Roasted with oranges and deliciously moist!

I know I am forgetting stuff but thinking about it all is making me very hungry.

You see that painting above? The Girl painted it for me. There is a bit more to it but I had to crop it out because it included her name. It’s gorgeous! I plan to have it framed but right now, it’s hanging in the dining room so we can gaze at it while we eat.

In other news, remember how The Boy auditioned for another play? He went for the lead in Singin’ in the Rain but didn’t get it. Instead, he got “Sound Engineer” and both of us were scratching our heads over that one. How can you try out for the lead and end up on stage crew? But, he was okay with it. THEN he found out it’s an actual part. He is not working stage crew after all.

By the way, I will not be out fighting the crowds on Thanksgiving OR the day after. I really want to keep it simple this year and focus on family. I know a lot of you are doing the same. It’s just too much and we already have too much stuff anyway.

Well, there’s more to say but I’ve got to get back to the kitchen. For those celebrating Thanksgiving, have a good one! I am so thankful to be a part of this community. Cheers!

  1. Have a wonderful day…I am actually so happy to be home…we are usually in a car or plane this time of day…our Whole Foods prepared dinner is tucked away in the refrigerator…I am making a cinnamon pull apart bread for breakfast tomorrow…I just finished the cranberries and I am boiling the sweet potatoes so that they are ready for tomorrow!

    Tomorrow…Jammie’s and a yummy book!

I even have a great cheese and an organic salami and olives for a starter! I am amazed at me! Lol…

    I love the painting!

    Again…have a wonderful day!

  2. The painting is gorgeous!

I roast my turkey with oranges too. Love it! I just finished work, so I’m taking a bit of a break before moving on to the Thanksgiving prep. Thankfully, my husband is the baker in the family. 😉

    Happy Thanksgiving!

  3. Your menu sounds wonderful. I like the way you are going to make your green beans. I am brining a turkey for the first time this year and keeping my fingers crossed. I’m going to roast it with some orange and lemon too. Never done that before too but it sounds so good. Bummer about your GF rolls not rising. I am going to make my stuffing later tonight and bake an apple pie too. Lots of cooking going on. You won’t find me out shopping on Friday either! Enjoy your family and have a Happy Thanksgiving!

  4. LOVE the painting! And I do love cooking, but not if it is just for two of us. Unfortunately, my kids are so picky, it isn’t worth it, and my parents aren’t down here. So we will be dining out. I hate shopping and fighting crowds. I get so claustrophobic. I tend to do ALOT of online shopping.

  5. Happy Thanksgiving! Have a great day & dinner. Thanks for reminding me about rolls (forgot!); we are having “the big dinner” on Friday night as there isn’t really a holiday here. The pies sound good. Love your daughter’s painting, wow! nice.

  6. I’m in the kitchen as well 🙂 I’ve made pecan bars, lemon pie, pumpkin pie, mashed potatoes, sweet potato casserole, green bean bundles, and cornbread dressing. My mom used to make a fantastic ambrosia; I need to get her recipe 🙂 I have bread pudding, squash casserole, and of course the turkey to work on before noon tomorrow. My only problem right now is how all this is going to fit in my fridge 😦
I love the girl’s painting…you need to frame it for sure!
I too am a online shopper…you couldn’t pay me to leave my house this weekend 😛
Have a wonderful day tomorrow, Ti! Blessings and happiness to your family 🙂

  7. By the way, I’m also the only Freshmen Boy that made it in to the play. I think of it as another reason to do the show 😉

  8. That is a great painting!! Looks kind of like stained glass! And I’m glad to hear that the Boy got a part — even though it doesn’t sound very inspiring!! 😉

  9. I hope you got through all the baking and cooking in time and had a great Thanksgiving. We went out Black Friday, but much later in the day to get ornaments and small stuff.

    1. The rolls tasted great, but looked…questionable. Not fit for company but over the course of the week my family gobbled them up.
