The Redbreast by Jo Nesbø
Model Home by Eric Puchner
The Fates Will Find Their Way by Hannah Pittard
The Hand That Trembles by Kjell Eriksson
Child Wonder by Roy Jacobsen
The Upright Piano Player by David Abbott
Duma Key by Stephen King
Nemesis by Jo Nesbø
There will be other books, because I have a bunch that I agreed to review, but these are the books that I really want to read over the summer. Summer is not summer without a King book in there somewhere, and I’m surprised that I haven’t read Duma Key already. It’s a chunkster. If you’ve read it, let me know if you liked it.
I also had to fit Nesbø in there (surprise!). Because I love him so much, I decided to slip a second book into the mix. You know, because I am his #1 fan and all.
For me, summer is a time to delve into the books that I’ve been wanting to read for awhile. Some might be a bit heavy or dark, but I like heavy and dark. I know some people skip the list making, but creating the list gives me something to look forward to.
What are you looking forward to reading this summer?
You’ve got several here that I own or want to own and one that I think I own and had forgotten. I have not read any of them, but I’m ever hopeful. LOL
Did you know Stephen King has new book coming out in November? Just saying…
Kay… I am so looking forward to that new King book. I am going to buy it, and read it over Thanksgiving break (if it comes out before then, can’t remember) or save it for Christmas break!
i have duma still unread and you’re right…it’s huge! my hunch is that a good editor would have cut it in half…that’s been my beef with him lately.
i don’t make a list pre se…i just shuffle around the pile next to my bed!
looking forward to your reviews!
Some of the books on here are from my TBR shelf too. I no longer keep a pile next to my bed, because I’d always forget what I had and let’s face it, I NEVER read right before bed anymore. I have a puppy now and she doesn’t like my book light 🙂
King really does like to make chunksters. I can’t understand how he has the time since he seems to be so busy lately generating blurbs! But you know, with The Stand, I didn’t really think it needed editing like one thinks with some chunksters. Such books do sort of dominate one’s life for quite a long time, however!
You haven’t read Duma yet? I passed it over when it first came out because the cover is lame. The cover is STILL lame >but I always read King on breaks. The one he has coming out in November is one that I am really looking forward to.
That’s a great list. Model Home sounds interesting, I may have to read this one (or listen).
Child Wonder sounds good too. Did you notice almost all fo the books on the list are male authors. I tend not to connect with male authors in the literary space. I must connect with the emotional aspect more than I think.
I need to build/post my list – it will look so much different than yours! 🙂
I didn’t even notice the male author thing. Come to think of it, much of what I read is written by male authors. Makes sense though because I have a lot of close friends who are male. I’ve been reading your mini-lists about what you are excited about, and they are different than what you’d see me listing, but I am pre-occupied with dysfunction 🙂
I have Duma Key sitting on my shelf. Its a slow read. Every time I pick it up I get a little bored and then I’ll read something else. I feel the same way about Lisey’s Story. I have that on the shelf too. I’m a huge fan of King. I love his work but some of his stuff can take a while to get into. If you haven’t read Under the Dome, you should. That book is great and has terrific character developments.
King takes awhile to tell the tale, that’s for sure. That’s why I save his books for holiday or vacay reading because normally, I don’t have the time to savor what he’s building. I haven’t read Lisey’s Story either, but I have read Dome and you’re right…it was great. I considered Dome his return to “classic” King. He went off and got all weird with Rose Madder and the books of that time so I took a break from him for awhile.
Do you ever read Dean Koontz? I love him too. If you haven’t, read Watchers.
I have The Fates Will Find Their Way, which I am looking forward too! I also definitely want to read some Nesbo.
I plan to pick-up some of the books from the library in a little bit. That’s the advantage of working in a university library!
They all look deep dark and lovely…and I have an interest in Jo Nesbo now!!!
Great picks! Many of those are on my TBR, but I may not get to them this summer. I’m hoping to catch up on my Orange Prize reading and am looking forward to the Booker Prize longlist being announced in July!
That’s right! I forgot all about the Booker long list coming out soon.
I love that collage! I’m checking out the site — have been looking for ways to make collages without using photoshop. As always, you’re my blogging guru. 🙂
Glad you decided to post a list. I love having a sneak peak into bloggers’ to-read-for-fun lists because it gives me good ideas. Can you believe I’ve never read a Stephen King novel? I’m a chicken, what can I say. Does he have any that are good but not horribly scary?
You are kidding, right?
His books, well most of them, play on internal fears and the weaknesses we have within us. Readers read King because he takes you on a ride. You are fully immersed the world he’s created when you pick up one of his books.
Misery would be a great book to start off with. The movie was pretty good too.

Not kidding! But I just added Misery to my TBR. I think I saw the movie once upon a time (or parts of it) but I can’t remember the plot other than it’s about a seriously wacked out lady.
I need to get on the Jo Nesbo bandwagon and steal your status as his #1 fan!
I think Other Jill might be holding the #1 fan status at the moment. After all, she posted sexy Nesbo pics on her blog. You just horde the pictures in your office.
Posting on the blog means that anyone can feast their eyes upon him. What kind of #1 fan would do that?

I love looking at everyone’s summer reading lists! They are all so different. Happy reading.
It looks like you’ve got a great reading plan for the summer! I see some I want to read too on your list, I have been wanting to read Jo Nesbo forever. Happy reading!
I am Nesbo’s personal cheerleader (he just doesn’t know it) so I would be thrilled if you read one of his books this summer.

I like the variety in your selections for summer. I hope to read:
Turn of Mind; LaPlante, State of Wonder; Patchett; Maine; Sullivan a few thrillers and a few Steinbeck (I hope).
Enjoy your summer stash.
Maine looks really good. What Steinbeck do you plan to read? Out of the ones I’ve read, East of Eden is still my fave.

I just finished the Ann Patchett, STATE OF WONDER, and absolutely loved it! I am into reading well written stuff taking place at the beach this summer. MAINE was great. And, looking forward to the new Daniel Silva thriller arriving on the scene later this month.
“Well written stuff taking place at the beach,” love it!
Gin and Chowder Club and Violets of March were like that. Have you read them? Can’t remember.

My only official plan is that I’m going to dive in to Game of Thrones and the other books in the series! I’m a little bit of the way into the first book now, and I’d like to get to the second one this summer too
Reading a series over the summer can be a lot of fun too.
There are at least 12 other books that I received as ARCs that will make their way into the mix too. That’s why I kept this particular list short.
I want to read The Upright Piano Player, too! I heard good Twitter chatter (or ‘read’ the chatter?)
I can’t remember if I first heard about it on Shelf Awareness or not, but the blurb I read about it sounded fabulous.
Good choices, I have The Upright Piano Player I hope to read this summer, too. Looking forward to your reviews.
I’m sure you will be able to fit these in between those review books!! I know that I am really making time for the ones that I WANT to read in-between those that I HAVE to read!
It’s a fine balance, isn’t it? So far, I am doing okay with it. I usually only accept ARCs that I plan to read anyway.
the model home cover hooked me–can’t wait to see what you think. good luck with your undertaking–i’m still making my way through a list of recommended books from bloggers that i made back in 2009. 🙂
2 Nesbo books? I really MUST get one into my hands. Perhaps a trip to the bookstore today since it’s the day to support book stores!
That’s a beautiful collage Ti! I hope you had a great summer reading experience. Guess what because of you and Jill, I brought home Jo Nesbo’s The Leopard! I suppose you are striving to finish all of Jo’s books aye? 😉
Ohhh!! Even I don’t have The Leopard yet! I am working through the others first. I need to talk less about Nesbo, and read more. LOL.
I read the Hannah Pittard book last month and it was a really wonderful read! I guess you will enjoy it. As for me, I am reading Shantaram over the summer. Being a huge book, it will be August before I finish it. 🙂
I had to look Shantaram up since I’m not familiar with it. That IS a chunkster if I do say so myself! Good luck with it. I love a big, meaty read for the summer.
So glad you liked the Pittard book. I have high hopes for it.
I NEED to read MODEL HOME and THE FATES WILL FIND THEIR WAY. This NEEDS to happen!
