The Sunday Salon: The After Christmas Edition

So Christmas came, and went. We spent Christmas Eve with my in-laws (pic above). We had a lovely dinner, opened some presents and then made it home in time for Santa to arrive. There was a little family mishap where a 40 something year-old fought with an 11-year-old over the last root beer in the fridge but I will save that story for another time. Ahem.

Christmas morning, we woke to more presents. The Hub and I did not exchange gifts, but I got bookish gift cards from some of my friends so I managed to get a few gifts of my own. We also saw the new Alvin and the Chipmunks movie. It was very cute.

In the pile:

The Awakening by Kate Chopin
The Beautiful and the Damned by F. Scott Fitzgerald
Wives and Daughters by Elizabeth Gaskell
Let The Great World Spin by Colum McCann

Today is yet another lazy day for me. The sun is shining and I am totally relaxed. I went out into the craziness for a bit yesterday and quickly returned to my little oasis. I have been reading Under the Dome by Stephen King. It’s HUGE at 1100 pages but it’s going quickly and it’s the perfect read for my extended break. I am half-way through it and should be done within a day or two.

Tomorrow I am on the book tour for When She Flew. I really enjoyed that book as well and those of you that are interested in reading it, may want to stop by for the review. Hint, hint. Tomorrow is also Moby Dick Monday. I have to say, I am really enjoying it and I am so glad I decided to read it after all.

Right now my tummy is happy. I just had french toast and bacon. Two perfect foods. However, come Jan 4th I say goodbye to all things good. It’s time for another round of Game On and that means no bacon, no coffee, no anything… Well, that’s not true but it certainly feels like it for the first week or two.

As for the rest of the day, I have nothing planned and it feels wonderful!

  1. Have fun with your relaxing day! I like your family photos, though they reminded me that I forgot to post a photo of my family in front of the tree. Oh well. 🙂

  2. Thank you for sharing the photos, Ti. You have such a beautiful family. It sounds like you all had a good Christmas.

Enjoy your time with King’s book. I will be reading this afternoon, if I get my wish. You’ve reminded me though that I haven’t had anything yet to eat all day, and am I ever hungry!

    Have a great week.

    1. Thank you for the compliment. My son is in the “messy” pre-teen stage so when I told him to wear a nice shirt he did, but refused to button it, etc. And the Hub is always in shorts, although you cannot tell from this pic.

  3. So glad you had such a fun, relaxing Christmas!

I just learned that I may take a class this summer that will require me to read moby dick — oh no! I will definitely have to go back and read all your past posts — and then keep up with your remaining ones. I am a bit intimidated by this chunkster.

  4. Glad your holiday was a happy one. That is one fantastic stack of books – all favorite of mine! Let the Great World Spin would be the stand-out to me here as that was one of my favorite books this year. Happy reading!

    1. I downloaded a copy of Let the Great World Spin when Oprah had it on her website for free but reading it on the computer is too hard on my eyes. I had to get my own copy.

  5. Love the pictures Ti! You have such a beautiful family! I just ordered Under the Dome from the library on audio – 30 discs! I’ve been a big lazy gluttonous ogre here lately, but that will come to a grinding halt very soon! I’ve been absorbed with Fingersmith by Sarah Waters on my vacation…a nice, long entertaining read!

    1. I’ve been enjoying King’s book but I am hoping it takes a turn in different direction here pretty soon. I am about 500 pages in and it’s a bit tedious at the moment.

  6. Sounds like you had a wonderful holiday, and the photos are great! Wives and Daughters and Let the Great World Spin are both on my wish list.

  7. I love the photos! I’m not sure why you had some skinny lady with those beautiful cheekbones pose with your husband but whatever. I see in the second picture the doll was forced to take a nap. Probably the only one in the family who did!

  8. Nice family pic Ti! Glad to hear you had a nice Christmas. The fighting over the last rootbeer sounds like something that would happen in my family, lol! I understand! Great stack of books, enjoy!

  9. merry christmas and happy new year. looks like a lot of fun was had at your house! i didn’t get any books this year but i did give a few to my mom, mom-in-law, and bro-in-law.

looking forward to hearing more about the root beer brawl…lol.

  10. I can’t believe how fast you’re flying through the Stephen King book … can’t wait to read your review!

And eat, drink and be merry because GAME ON is coming!!!

  11. I just finished my MD post for tomorrow. The Stand has GOT to be better than Moby Dick, I might have to read it just to recover from the trauma you’re inflicting on me. 😉

  12. Great picture of your family, Ti! I got a laugh over the root beer incident- that could totally happen in my house. I also like how you and your hub. don’t exchange gifts. We should do that here as my husband is really bad at gift giving- he is seriously challenged in that area!!!

We are eating a lot of rich holiday foods and I am actually looking forward to getting it all out of the house and getting back to my normal way of eating and exercising after the 1st. I’m enjoying it but it’s excessive and making me feel like a slug.

  13. You photos are great. Kate Chopin….lucky you! I love that photo of the kiddos. I will be with you on the diet and exercise. My pants are way too tight. Great post.

  14. Christmas isn’t Christmas without a little root beer squabble 🙂

I love the stack of new books – do you know which you’ll read first?

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you and your family, Ti!

  15. Happy new year to you and yours, Ti! Love that stack, am especially coveting the Colum McCann, but we don’t have the paperback here yet, so am waiting. Happy Tigerrific year!
