The Sunday Salon: Recovery

Sunday Salon

For those who celebrate it, did you all have a nice Thanksgiving? Mine was interesting. I got hit with a sinus infection a couple of days before the big day and it completely wiped me out. I don’t get sick often. Hardly ever really, and no one was sick around me so I have no idea how I got sick but it did a number on me. I couldn’t taste much but the family tells me that the meal was good.

I didn’t plan to do any shopping on Black Friday but the entire weekend is a blur to me. Between the fever and the heavy dosage of meds, the entire week flew by without me knowing it. I read two books, one of which was Swimming Home and let me tell you, that book was very strange! Was it my fever? Or was it the book? I’m not sure.

One thing I did a lot of, was eat. Apparently my fever had no effect on my appetite. I also watched a lot of movies. Must watch movies like Miracle on 34th Street, Christmas Vacation, Christmas with the Kranks and of course, Charlie Brown.  I indulged in some James Bond movies too…Casino Royale and You Only Live Twice. I love that my kids love these movies too. I didn’t get to see Skyfall though. I was just too sick and couldn’t hold my head up much less sit through a long movie.

Today, I am still wobbly but better. I’ve been reading The Twelve and really liking it. I put a big dent in it while sitting in bed.

Well, I am supposed to be at work tomorrow but The Girl’s filling fell out so I have to take half the day to get it fixed and then I’ll head to work. Hopefully I’ll be a lot better than I am now. Still not 100% but getting better each day.

Not sure what we have planned later. I have no food in the house except leftovers and the family has already told me “No leftovers for dinner!” so we might head out to get something.

On the kid front, The Boy is waiting for a Winter Formal invite. Exciting, but nerve-wracking too. The girls get to ask the guys this time around. Hope it happens soon so we can get the outfit stuff squared away. The Girl? She is busy making her Christmas list. It has changed numerous times and has been added on to, many times as well. I SO wish I could be a kid again.

As for the title of this post…I am recovering from being sick, but from also eating everything in sight. I never eat that way but when you’re sick, and your appetite is not affected in any way, you tend to grab for stuff blindly. I am polluted from head to toe. Tomorrow means getting back into a routine and that will be lovely (insert sarcasm here).

Anyway, Happy Sunday!

Thanksgiving Eve

Pumpkin Painting 2012
The Girl painted this!

After three days of dental appointments and still a couple more to go, I am glad to be home and in the kitchen prepping for the big meal. Finally. The Girl is off from school so we’re making the meal together. The Boy will join us later and The Hub is at work.

So far I’ve made:

Two Apple Pie-lets (small pies for The Boy who does not like Pumpkin pie)
The cornbread for the Caramelized Onion and Sage Dressing
The Marshmallow salad (The Girl’s specialty, think Ambrosia)
Sweet Potato Soufflé

I still have to make:

2 Pumpkin Pies
The Gluten-Free rolls (rising as I type this)
Green Beans with Bacon, Feta and Tomatoes
Brussels Sprouts with a Balsamic Reduction
Mashed Potatoes
Creamed Spinach
The Turkey Roasted with oranges and deliciously moist!

I know I am forgetting stuff but thinking about it all is making me very hungry.

You see that painting above? The Girl painted it for me. There is a bit more to it but I had to crop it out because it included her name. It’s gorgeous! I plan to have it framed but right now, it’s hanging in the dining room so we can gaze at it while we eat.

In other news, remember how The Boy auditioned for another play? He went for the lead in Singin’ in the Rain but didn’t get it. Instead, he got “Sound Engineer” and both of us were scratching our heads over that one. How can you try out for the lead and end up on stage crew? But, he was okay with it. THEN he found out it’s an actual part. He is not working stage crew after all.

By the way, I will not be out fighting the crowds on Thanksgiving OR the day after. I really want to keep it simple this year and focus on family. I know a lot of you are doing the same. It’s just too much and we already have too much stuff anyway.

Well, there’s more to say but I’ve got to get back to the kitchen. For those celebrating Thanksgiving, have a good one! I am so thankful to be a part of this community. Cheers!
