Technically, I did not finish Redemption Falls, by Joseph O’Connor. After wrestling with the writing style, I decided to “divorce the book” after 200 pages. This is the sequel to Star Of The Sea, which I thoroughly enjoyed and although the writing style is very similar, I never understood who was talking.. or what was going on. I felt as if it was written in some cryptic language. I hate, hate, hate divorcing a book. I feel as if I have let the author down personally. Silly, I know.
Actually, if you Google “giving up on a book” all sorts of stuff comes up. Mostly advice from professional readers (my dream job). Most of them give up on a book after 50 pages. I gave up after 200..so there!! No, seriously, I really wanted to enjoy this book but I am at a point in my life where wasted time peeves me more than divorcing the book.
Anyway.. I just went to the library to pick up my next book club read.. A Long Way Gone, by Ishmael Beah. I am looking forward to a weekend of reading. Hope you can enjoy some reading time as well.
I haven’t posted in awhile. Too much going on. Nothing bad, just everyday stuff. You know how that is. You have a “to do” list of a zillion things and you just can’t make any progress at all because you would rather be lounging, on the couch with a tall glass of tea in one hand and a nice book in the other. I guess I just want to be lazy for awhile.
Since my last post.. I have managed to send another fish to a watery grave. Yep.. R.I.P Barbie. I am now down to one fish.. Lolita. She seems to be hanging in there. Cross your fingers. I don’t want to be known as a Fish Killer.
It’s Spring Break for my son. We took a few days off and hit Disneyland. It wasn’t too bad! Normally I would never hit D-Land during Spring Break but I refuse to take the kids out of school just to go to a theme park so that is when we went and we were lucky. It was a really nice day. Cool weather.. patient people.. short line waits. In a word.. nice.
Hope the rest of the day goes by quickly as I am back at work and not lounging on that couch I mentioned earlier.
