Sunday Matters: Remember Me?

Sunday Matters

I didn’t intend to fall off the face of the earth but health issues can be a real joy killer. The medical professionals are still running all the tests and things pop up here and there, but nothing to explain what I am experiencing. Some days, I feel like I need a wheelchair.

My work added one more in-office day so I am in the office three days and then working remotely for the other two. This agreement is good for a year. Not gonna lie, that third day is hard for me but I am grateful that we are still able to do a hybrid schedule.

Right Now:

I am about to run off to student ministry. It remains to be one of my favorite days of the week and the students taught me how to play Uno. How pathetic. I’ve been in student ministry for over 12 years and I just learned how to play Uno. I am not terribly competitive, actually not at all but the conversations are fun while they watch the confusion in my eyes.

This Week:

Going back to the doctor on Monday for more tests.

Wednesday is book club. We are discussing The Sympathizer.

The Sympathizer

Reading:

In addition to the book club book, I am reading Holly by Stephen King. It came out on my birthday so I took a vacation day and spent the entire day reading. It was wonderful but I still have a little bit to go before I finish it. It’s a little bit of a rehash of the pandemic and so that slowed me down a little. It’s not a pleasant moment to relive.

Watching:

Absolutely nothing. I could easily live without TV. The Hub does not agree.

Well, the fam is pretty good. My daughter is rehearsing for Shakespeare in Love at Missouri State. My son is still doing well in Seattle and I am going for a short visit in October. The Hub is happy that football is back. I did not join the football pool this year. I like to just have it on in the background and not pay attention to it too much, while I lazily read a book.

I really hope you are all well. I’ve kept up with some of you via social media but I’ve been so miserable most days anything extra seems like a real stretch. I hope that changes soon.

  1. I was happy to receive this. Your musings on a Sunday are a bright spot and I missed it
Sure pray your drs can figure out a tx plan. So frustrating. Autoimmune (?) especially can be tough with appointments hard to come by
I could easily skip tv. Husband disagrees . These days, with streaming services, you have to know what you want to watch otherwise hours are lost just scrolling thru all the choices
    Have a great week

    1. I agree that there are too many choices when searching for a show. The downside is when my husband gets stuck on some action movie like Rambo and then it dominoes into many action movies. I just pick up my book and go into the living room.

  2. It’s so frustrating, going for test after test, and the doctors not finding anything (or, not enough to lead to any answers). I’m sorry you’re going through this. Completely agree with you on TV, and I’m like you with football — I don’t mind it on while my husband is watching and I’m reading or blogging.

  3. I am so sorry you are going through this. I hope you get answers and treatment soon.
I did love your birthday present to yourself. Nothing better for someone who loves to read.
    Thinking of you.

  4. I am so sorry that you are feeling cruddy, that can control everything. I hope they figure it out soon. Sending hugs!

    1. I keep thinking it’s MS. The docs say no. Great. I don’t want MS but the other thing they keep tossing out is long covid. Now my bones are fracturing again. Happened when I was diagnosed with Celiac but what is causing it now? I can barely walk.

  5. Sorry you aren’t getting the answers you need. Hopefully you will went you get the new tests results and start feeling better.

I’ve been playing Uno since the late 70’s and LOVE it. My kids and grandkids grew up playing it with us! Still playing along with other games we’ve played for years. So much fun!

    1. I am horrible at Uno but will hopefully get better. The students have a good laugh over my antics.

I just had some xrays taken because I have fractures again all over. Of course that makes getting around a real challenge.

  6. Ditto to all of the above! Hope you feel better soon and they don’t add any more in office days. Reading is a lifesaver! Glad you like Uno! It’s a great game for all ages.❤️

    1. My work contract is set for a year but I am sure they will be adding another day come August 2024.

I just need to get over it, really. I don’t feel great so I am very dramatic about all of it.

  7. I’m so sorry to hear that you’ve been struggling health wise. I really hope they find some answers for you soon. It’s such a disappointment when the doctors are baffled. 😦

I haven’t started Holly yet, but I do have it on Audible so it will be up after I finish my book club book for work, Tender is the Flesh.

I understand you about the football. In the background is fine, I’ll read, thank you!

I spent a Saturday doing yard cleanup, though there is more to do, and Sunday, I was volunteering at the Bourgeon Online magazine/DayEight table with a colleague and then read poetry at the Poet’s Corner at Literary Hill BookFest in DC. It was a busy weekend, but at least I have Monday off to recuperate.

    1. Busy weekends are great as long as you have that one day to recover. I just can’t handle much these days.

HOLLY. I am slightly irritated with it. I know!

      1. I started Holly, and I see what you mean about the pandemic. I’m taking it slow. Listening until I need a break, which isn’t my normal rate of speed for a King book.

  8. Hope you are having a better day. Can’t imagine how frustrated you must be and how it affects you daily life. Constantly being in pain and not knowing what’s causing it really saps energy. Don’t give up and try to remain positive. The aging process has been tough on my body. I had total ankle replacement last week and will spend the next month or so not being able to do much. Hope to be walking and driving again by Christmas. I have lots of new books sent to me by friends but don’t have the attention span to dig in due to the pain meds. I agree with you on TV – I really believe I could live without it. I’ll keep you in my thoughts and hope you feel better. Enjoy your trip to see Evan.

  9. I hope the doctors are able to figure out what to do to get you feeling better. Is it a complication from lupus? I think you mentioned that once. I am glad you are back on the blog. And I didn’t realize King’s Holly is a pandemic novel. I will wait to hear what you think once you finish. My book club once discussed The Sympathizer too … several years ago. It’s quite a dense read and took me a long while — but there are some good scenes in it. Glad to hear your kids are doing well. Hope you can manage the extra day of commute to work. Not easy with traffic. Have a good week.

  10. Hi,hope your Drs .find an answer really soon.I have very little patience for tv my husband is so happy watching baseball &football,I’m happy reading. We both like Jeopardy so that’s a nightly tv date.

  11. I’m so sorry you are still suffering from your health issues, Ti. I can only imagine how frustrated you must feel.

I don’t really care to watch football either, but my brother and sister-in-law were visiting a week ago and he wanted to watch the Charger game. It was kind of nice hearing it while I was puttering in the kitchen. Brought back memories of holidays when we would have a game going while making meals.

I’m looking forward to listening to Holly once I make time for it. Another friend read it as soon as it came out and said it was excellent.

Glad to see you blogging again, Ti. You’ve been missed!
