Sunday Matters: Almost There

Sunday Matters

I can’t even believe that Christmas Day is this week. This year the week just hit me in the face. We’ve had a hard time scheduling things and can’t even figure out which day we are attending the Christmas service. Every, single, day, presents a challenge in some way. It’s not all bad though. We’ve met a lot of new people this year and with new friends, comes new things you want to participate in. A good problem to have?

Right Now:

High School ministry is on break and our church has a Christmas service this morning but I think we are going to try to hit Monday’s service so we can be together but it may not work out.

I need to figure out what I am making Christmas day. I nixed the idea of going out. We do make Christmas dinner reservations most years but it’s been crowded and the food hasn’t been great so I want to make something myself this year. I will spend some time figuring that out today.

This Week:

Monday – possibly attend the Christmas service.

Tuesday – Spending Christmas Eve with the in-laws. We are having brunch this year. Then, my daughter has a singing gig at another church at 8pm and 11pm.

Wednesday – Christmas at home, then probably Star Wars.

Thursday or Friday – Disneyland!

Reading:

I just finished Promises of the Heart by Nan Rossiter.  I’ve read every book she’s written. This one is a little different. No beachy setting but it really spoke to my heart. Review coming very soon.

Guys, it’s impossible for me to believe but at the beginning of the year I signed up to read the Bible in a year and I finished early! What an accomplishment.

First book. I have no idea what my first book of the year will be but I am looking forward to picking it out!

Watching:

ALL the Christmas movies I can watch. Plus I recorded the All in the Family and Good Times (Live) event as well as the I Love Lucy Christmas Special. I plan to watch them this week.

I Love Lucy Christmas Special

New Things I’ve Tried:

I ordered some fancy tabs for my Bible on Etsy. I haven’t put them on yet but when I do, if they work out for me I’ll share the link in case anyone wants to get some. This lady makes tabs for planners too.

Grateful for:

With all the changes at work, (VP retiring, Interim VP named, permanent VP position posted, others retiring, me being moved to a different group, this downtime can’t come soon enough. I need a factory reset and I am glad to have time on the books for me to do just that.

How is your week looking? More shopping? I have a few items I need to get but honestly, I’m done for the most part. Trimming it all down this year.

  1. Merry Christmas Ti! Your post is making me wonder if I’m feeling anxious because I have too LITTLE to do. Oh, I have plenty but also just not lining up with my wanting to do “nothing”! maybe. I don’t know. I just want to stay home and snuggle in with a book. I let my First Book pick me. It was a gift.

  2. You stay so busy!

I planned my menu and did the grocery shopping this morning. Carl and Vance are going to see Star Wars tonight. I’ll stay home and bake cookies. The next couple of days will be crazy busy at the store so we’ll spend Christmas day relaxing. I’m so glad it will be just the three of us this year.

    1. Much if my busy-ness is not of my own doing but we are still having some trouble scheduling the fun stuff. Had to postpone Disneyland due to horrible weather and then the morning came and it was glorious. That messed us up? Now we are going Monday and guess what? Yep. Horrible weather.

  3. Whew. Your week sounds like a whirlwind of wonderfulness. How fun to see your daughter sing, to celebrate Christmas, to see Star Wars (!) and to go to Disneyland (!!) It is hectic, but these crazy-busy teen years go fast and once they are gone, they are really gone. I barely survived those busy years, and now (somehow) I look back on them with nostalgia.

We’ve been watching Christmas movies, too, including my favorites The Grinch (cartoon original) and Charlie Brown Christmas.

I hope you do get some delightful breathing room over the next few weeks. Merry Christmas, Ti!

    1. Our Disney trip was postponed due to weather but the day we picked, now has bad weather predicted too. It’s the only day we can go now. Ugh.

I am getting some downtime though. Like now. I’m cleaning the oven. Gosh, I have a problem.

  4. Sounds like you’ve got a full week, but it also sounds like the priorities are wonderful. And you finished your Bible completely in a year. I think I’ve only done that once in my life. Perhaps it’s time to focus on that as a goal again. Hoping you and your family have a peaceful, stress-free week, regardless of where and when and how. Enjoy Disneyland. See you in 2020!

  5. Whew! What a busy week you have coming up, but it all sounds wonderful. I hear Disneyland is beautifully decorated around Christmas so that should be really fun! I’m sure you’ll come up with something wonderful to make for your dinner and the house will smell warm and cozy.

    1. Disney was postponed because the weather was supposed to be horrible but then it was a beautiful day. We are now going Monday and yep, more horrible weather scheduled to hit now.

We tried to hit SB yesterday but with the Grapevine closed, many tried the alternate way of going to the 101 and we couldn’t get to SB! Had to turn around.

I made a prime rib roast and it came out perfect. I am cleaning the oven now because that is how I have fun apparently.

      1. Traffic was CRAZY around here so you are smart not to have come up this far. What normally takes 12 minutes took almost an hour and a half. Ew. I am going to Ventura tomorrow so hope it’s better by then.

        1. It took us almost three hours to hit Ventura and although we got off to hit some side streets, we could see a solid red line on Google Maps and our estimated time of arrival in SB was something like 8 hours later. Unreal!

  6. I finished all the decorating. We’ve made some treats for friendmas and we still have cookies to make. Our daughter did get to make a gingerbread house at her friend’s birthday party, which I’m wondering if gets me out of making another one?! LOL

We haven’t made it to see any Christmas lights or the show I wanted to see.

  7. We’re going for a Christmas Brunch with my daughter and her family & son in laws family and then going to my oldest son’s house for Christmas dinner with his family. Seems weird since I was the one who always cooked and had Christmas at our house.

  8. Merry Christmas, Ti!

And, I have put you down as a participant in the Japanese Literature Challenge 13, thinking you might read one book for it.

Also, Bible tabs! I see them on Illustrated Faith’s pictures, but for me, they just catch on my hands as I try to hold my Bible or turn the pages. Probably you will do better.
