Sunday Matters: Another Show Down & Mother’s Day

Sunday Matters

I feel like one of my kids is always in a show. But today, Footloose is over and The Girl is exhausted. It was an excellent run.  It also happens to be Mother’s Day! Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms out there.

Right Now:

We have tickets to see Falsettos this afternoon. I’m very excited to see it. Afterward, we are hitting this famous taco stand because sitting in an actual restaurant is nearly impossible on Mother’s Day but tacos in the car happen to be very enjoyable.

This Week:

The Girl has her Spring Concert this week. I am working one of the performances but taking a break for the other.

Still trying to figure out my health issues. Some tests show some strangeness and I am still waiting for one other to come back. I’m getting frustrated.

This week I also have a book discussion and a life group meeting and I also signed up to bring a friend who just had surgery a meal. I need to stay organized but it will all get done.

Reading:

I finished The Wife Between Us. Very enjoyable and just what I am in the mood for these days.

I am now reading White Tears.
Also reading Letters to the Church which is fascinating.

Watching:

I am back to watching Hoarders but I don’t think there are any new ones because it seems like I’ve seen them all. I need some good shows to watch.

New Things I’ve Tried:

Let me tell you, Walmart has upped their grocery game. I’ve been using online ordering / pick-up for awhile now and it’s wonderful but their selection of food has really improved. I get organic and gluten free stuff at such a good price. I picked up these trail snacks for less than $3 and they are comparable to what I see elsewhere for twice the cost if not more. So many flavors. Cute individual servings.

Grateful for:

Lately, being able to turn a bad day into a teaching moment. I’ve not always been able to do that.

What new thing are you loving right now?

  1. I’m sorry your health issues are so frustrating; I hope they figure it out soon so you know how to feel better. I have one more week of quiet until my daughter comes home from college. I think I need to mentally prepare for it, right? She’s used to being on her own….

    1. After my son’s Disney stint in Orlando, I was worried about the independence thing upon his return but he’s been respectful. More so than before he left. He always tells me when he is going to be out late and always texts me when he is on his way home. So far, so good. He turns 21 this July. Eek.

  2. Hoping you have some time to relax today and that your tests get to the bottom of your health challenges. The only series we watch are: Good Doctor, The Residents, New Amsterdam and This is Us. All very good!

  3. Tacos and a show! Sounds like a great Mother’s Day. Hope it is going well for you or by the time you read this did go well. I hope you can get your health issues figured out so you can get the help you need with them.

New thing I am loving right now? Looking over from the recliner I sit in to read and comment on blog posts (and watch TV and…) and not seeing a book case, which might sound odd, but it became a place of clutter…and now I look over and see a desk, chair, a few books, and a nice painting on the wall.

    1. I totally get how the view from your chair matters. I spend a lot of time sitting in one place at home and my bookshelf was not only an eye sore but a mess. I was so happy to paint that thing and pretty it up. It’s a bit of a mess right now because I got a lot of books in the mail and I just threw them there but I will organize it this weekend now that major shows are over for a little bit.

  4. I think it seems like your kids are always in a show, too, lol! There’s a lot of talent in your house. Hope you had a very happy Mother’s Day and that you health issues get sorted out soon. Henry, Himself came from the library and I’m hoping I can read it before it’s due. Fingers crossed!

    1. I DO get excited when they are cast for a show. Next show is Little Shop of Horrors for my daughter which begins, uh… next week. Didn’t realize it was coming up so quickly.

      Hope you enjoy Henry.

  5. sounds like a great mother’s day! Better than mine turned out to be. the highlight for me was finally seeing Endgame, though I felt like it was a bit too long and could have been edited a bit.

No new things here, just trying to mentally get out of the anger and sadness of Mother’s Day. My daughter has already begun the hurtful comments and statements I expected to be when she was a teenager, but clearly she’s part of this “sassy club” at school and thinks that this is how you behave and treat your parents.

Anyways, I’m getting over it slowly. 🙂 Taking solace in some really desolate short stories right now, Treading the Uneven Road by L.M. Brown. Set in a small village in Ireland, so that’s a plus too

  6. My favorite local grocery store just adopted online ordering and grocery pickup, and I LOVE it! I’ve used similar services at other grocery stores and like the convenience, but there was always an issue with missing items and such. This place understands the idea of personalized shopping and does a fantastic job. It is totally worth the small fee to continue to use that service. (Sorry, but I refuse to go to Walmart. I just can’t do it.)

    1. I feel the same way about Walmart for many reasons but I just can’t buy organic or gluten free stuff anywhere else for what they sell it for. And they have not messed up once. Seriously. Not trying to convince you just amazed, really.

  7. I’ll be curious to see if you like White Tears. If you think it’s good, I’ll read it too. Hope you had a nice Mother’s Day.

  8. Your kids ARE always in a show, and I think that is lovely. Then again, I don’t have to drive them to practice and help them prepare!

We’ve just finished watching The Great British Baking Show, which I loved, and now we have started Poldark. It’s a Masterpiece Theater series. But you’ve probably already watched both of these….I’m always the last person to know what’s good on tv!

I’d love to have you join us on Sunday Salon if you like. You don’t have to do anything different in your post, but just share your link. If you like.

  9. I’m late to this party but I am 1/4 into Donna Tartt’s the Goldfinch and it is just my kinda book. His Nibs said it was too long but I am starting to realize we don’t always have the same book choosing criteria. Especially when my work night is such that I can sometimes read for hours at a time.
