This year has been a really good year for reading. I haven’t read that many books but there are several that I’ve loved and really enjoyed. I think maybe it has to do with my more casual approach to reading. I finish a book and pick up whatever sounds good. Sounds so easy and yet I’ve never really done that before.
Anyway, it’s been a good week for reading too, except there are no quiet places to read on campus. We are in week 3 of classes and all of my reading spots are occupied by students. It must be funny to watch me try to find a place. Turn a corner… nope. Turn another corner, nope. Go upstairs, nope. It’s going to be awhile before things settle down in that area.
Right Now:
It’s been a pretty relaxing weekend overall. Not much planned. A little cleaning. A little organizing. Church. Stuff like that. I have to mend a few tops for The Girl. I do not sew. I know how to use a hot glue gun (ask Teen) but these jobs require a needle and thread so if I get right on it I will be sewing later.
This Week:
Rehearsals start for Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat on Monday. Audition prep is on Wednesday. The Girl isn’t sure what she wants to audition for as of yet. The Teen inquired about one role but scheduling for him is pretty crazy right now.
Reading:
I finished After the Parade by Lori Ostlund. I really loved it. I am in the mood to start one of my R.I.P Challenge reads but the one I wanted to start expired on my Kindle. Poor timing.
Watching:
Oh my word. American Horror Story – Hotel. I am all caught-up and it was way over-the-top. Totally watchable and disturbing in a “can’t look away” type of way but how did that even make it on TV?? It’s always been graphic but the Mature rating might have been a little too light for the content.
Making:
In my mind, it feels like fall and I am in the mood for a really good seasonal drink but it is still warm here so maybe some iced cider?
Definitely too warm for chili and soup even though I could eat soup 24/7. I have no idea what to make this week. This is becoming a thing with me.

Book Chatter 
Like to hear your more relaxed manner of reading. I sure do like that more. Hope your week goes well. Not sure what I think about iced cider – maybe because I like my cider spiced up for fall. LOL
Hot Cider? Me too. But I cannot bring myself to drink it when it is nearly 100 out. Hey, last year I tried a hot cider with cream and whipped cream on top. It was sinful but delicious as heck. My friend got one from Starbucks so I got the idea to recreate it at home. I drank many last year.
I sat down for the first time yesterday to actually plan meals. I still have to get the ingredients for said meals, but I have a plan. I think my kids are tired of “winging it” for dinner.

I’ve made more time in my schedule for reading books I bought or things from the library this year. I like it much better that way. I hear you on being able to eat soup all the time. LOVE it. But I’m the only one. My excuse last week was my allergies, so of course it’s time for soup. 🙂
RIP is here and I haven’t signed up or started a reading list, but that’s not unusual for me. I tend to always get a late start on that.

Love that you are enjoying reading this year. Your casual approach sounds like a solid plan. I’ve been doing the same and really enjoying it. I’m with you on soups – I am in the mood for it, too. I did make chicken soup twice recently, because everyone got sick and what’s better than homemade chicken soup, right? I can’t wait for Fall and hot chocolate – yum! AHS – Hotel was crazy!! I always wonder how they get away with some of the stuff they do and put it on TV. The new one looks super creepy – can’t wait!! Hope you have a great week and find somewhere to read on campus 🙂
Homemade chicken soup is the best. It’s actually cool this morning and I am here at work. Nowhere close to making homemade soup.
Reading spots. I just want a quiet space to read in. Even the library is off limits now. They opened all of it up and all of the quiet spaces were converted to collaboration spaces which means endless talking. I can throw a blanket or chair down and sit under a tree but the squirrels here are very aggressive. They have been known to grab my lunch or jump on my head.
That is a good approach to reading. I need to do more of that…iced cider looks wonderful. So did you have?…we had chili last week even though it was a bit warm, although not as warm as you, I’m sure. Hope your week is going well.
Reading whatever / whenever is the best way to read! I find that I need structure sometimes but when I am too busy, reading whatever strikes my fancy is the only thing that works. Looks like the theater season is going to pick up soon!
The “reading what I want” thing has been easier since my last Kindle broke. I lost all of my library reads but I had so many that it made it difficult for me to choose. Now I download a couple that sounds good and choose between them. So much easier. I’ve not been reading many review books but only because I am all caught up. However, I haven’t requested any for a few months and now I can’t seem to get approved for them. Geesh! I reviewed the the ones I had so what’s the issue? LOL.
How rude of those students to be in your reading spots! It’s been cool here the past couple of days, I even got chilly sleeping last night. Getting ready to start a pot of chili for tomorrow. Which will mean that it will suddenly become warm again, I suppose!
With football and all that, I SO wanted to make chili but it was 105 degrees. There was no way I was going to make anything.
