Production week for The Sound of Music is almost done. It’s been a full week of rehearsals and The Girl has one more show tonight and that’s that!
We got to see the show yesterday. It’s always fun to see it all come together. The Girl was a festival singer, one of ten girls singing. She really wants a lead in Peter Pan. We’ll see if she even gets in. The sign-up line begins at 4 am on Wednesday. Hello!
I will try to share pics from The Sound of Music later, but they banned cameras backstage so the pickin’s may be slim.
Right Now:
Happy Father’s Day to all the dads out there. Since we have the show going on, we plan to celebrate next weekend. Today, we will hit church and then back to the stage we go.
This Week:
Did I mention that sign-ups for Peter Pan are at 4 am on Wednesday morning? Good Gawd! I will be totally dead at work but she really wants in.
Reading:
I am going to finish A Little Life this week if it kills me. I’ve been savoring it but I really need to finish it up so I can move on to other books.
I am listening to Luckiest Girl Alive and although it started off a little bumpy, I am really into it now. This is the book that Reese Witherspoon just optioned so we’ll see if it becomes a movie soon.
Just started Nantucket by Nan Rossiter. It IS summer after all. Gotta get a summery read in before the Atlas Shrugged read along! We’ve got seven readers signed up so far. Will you join us?
Watching:
Not much this week. My secret hiding spot at work was in-use all week so I could not watch Mad Men at all. I did see a little bit of Orange is the New Black but it’s not pulling me in this season.
Making:
I made a really great chicken and pasta dish made entirely from leftovers. I had cooked-up chicken breasts a few days before and just sliced them up with fresh peas, garlic and olive oil, a spoonful of cream cheese for flavor, a dab of tomato paste, and then tossed with pasta and Parmesan cheese.
But, I haven’t made anything since! Production week, production week. No cooking goes on during this week.
Grateful for:
As much as I love seeing the show, I am so glad when production week is over. These days, I find myself getting all worked-up when my calendar is full so it’s nice to finally have it behind us. At least for a little while. I am grateful that after tonight’s show, we are done until September!
What’s going on in your world this weekend?
I know you’ve explained before, but 4 AM!?! Good Gawd is right. Good Gawd, y’all, I think. 🙂
Reading earlier this weekend and now off to see my dad (and mom and other family members) for Father’s Day.
Who starts a sign up at 4AM? That’s just crazy.
4:00 AM sign-ups??? You are one good mom!
The Girl said she is going to get-up at 3 am with me so we can tag team the line. It’s gets a little crazy. The last time I seriously thought someone was going to get run over so we’ll see if I even let her out of the car.
Seriously? 4AM. That early even for me and I’m a very early riser. Good luck!!
I normally get up at 4 am but since I have to go work right after this little soiree, I am going to have to get up around 3 in order to be dressed and ready to go. Last time they did this on the weekend so you could just roll out of bed, sign up and then go home. I really don’t know if she will get in this time. Peter Pan is such a popular show.
So you will be going to bed by 8pm? Lol
Can’t wait for your review of A a Little Life!
My laptop is dying, so I spent the weekend trying to get things done in three times the time it should’ve taken
Not a happy camper. Plus, it rained all day, so we had to stay in. And my hair stylist decided to move abroad, so I had to go to a new guy, who gave me the most horrendous blond, a carrot-y, orange-y nightmare… Yup, not the best of weekends. Congrats to the Girl. Fingers crossed for the Peter pan lead ❤
I am suffering from hair woes too. I love my stylist but the last three visits, she has sort of ignored what I’ve asked her to do. I want one of those lob haircuts (long bob) but she left the back too long and then one side was longer so I tried to fix it. I really screwed it up. My next appt is July 7th and it can’t come too soon. I keep snipping to make it better and now it’s pretty short! I’ve never had hair issues before so this is new to me and I really don’t know why, after so many years this is happening. Maybe it’s me and my explanation of what I want.
Some of my favorite dishes are the ones I’ve pulled together from leftovers. Sadly, I never remember to write down exactly what I did so I can replicate it. Four a.m.??? The things we do for our kids!
We rested after a busy week…and I kept reading all of the wrong books! We are home for a while then off to the beach for a few days again! 4:00 AM! Yikes!
I really really want to know what the rationale is behind those 4 a.m. sign-ups? Is it so that parents can prove that they’ll be up to the challenge of getting their kids to all the rehearsals, because, you know, 4 a.m. sign-up to get your kids in and all? Hopefully Wednesday will be a light day at work for you!
That chicken dish sounds SO good. And I have my copy of Atlas Shrugged now, so I have zero excuses …
The rationale has to do with the fact that their office is in a building with other businesses. When we did this at a normal time, hundreds of parents and their cars descended upon the parking lot and that really angered the neighboring businesses. Plus, they tell you to get there at such and such time, but then don’t open for several hours. That means we are all camped out for hours! That really angers people too. I wish we could just show up at the time they open. Would be the same thing and we wouldn’t have to wait so long. Plus, they close the parking lot and remove the cones all at once and it’s a mad dash to get a good spot in line. Last time, I twisted my ankle getting out of the car and while you park, kids run for a spot in line. I was scared someone was going to get hit or run over. I am not looking forward to it. It’s kind of like Black Friday.
HAPPY SUMMER BEGINNINGS TO YOU!
You have been busy! 4 A.M. would fit right in my schedule…but I’m up super early. I hope you get to find some time to celebrate and relax…remember to be mindful of over-scheduling. I have to do that myself.
I just went through a book that although a delight to read was just not getting over. I must have been on it for a month. With books like these, I don’t know if I am lying when I say that I really love the book when I’m not always looking forward to reading it.
Good luck to The Girl – hope she gets the part! I’ll have to try your pasta dish. It sounds yummy and I always have leftover chicken since that’s what I cook for Sam.
I’ve got Luckiest Girl Alive on audio but I haven’t started it yet. Glad to hear it gets good. I also picked up A Little Life the other day but it may be a bit before I start that with Atlas Shrugged next up on my list. lol.
Hope you have a good week!
I gotta finish A Little Life before Atlas and it’s taking me forever. I keep rereading passages and highlighting which is why I am reading so slowly. It’s just so good. I am mad at myself because now I kind of have to rush it to be done for Atlas. If the girl even gets into the show at this point, that will be something. It’s going to be close this time. Too many kids.
I guess the 4am sign-ups are to show commitment? Yikes that is early. Best of luck to her.
It’s to not anger their business neighbors on either side of them. When the parents of 320 kids show up for registration, it causes quite a disturbance. People were not playing fair today when it came to claiming their spot but we are in and WE played fair. No hiding in bushes to get a good spot.
Do a little napping under your desk at work. Peter Pan awakes at 4 a.m.? I’m wondering if I should be checking out Season 2 of True Detective? hmm. Or Season 1 for that matter. take care.
I can’t nap under my desk in this new office. We have surveillance cameras. It’s seriously put a crimp in my napping.
