Grab Your Book! Long Weekend Ahead!

Grab Your BookI get excited about long weekends even when I know there won’t be much time to read. Like this weekend, we will be out and about and yet, I still feel the need to toss books into a bag and go.

This weekend though, I find myself completely consumed with A Little Life.

A Little Life

It’s exactly the kind of book I like. Deeply flawed main character and heartbreaking passages aside, this book comes to me at the right time and it just fits. I just love when that happens. So this weekend, I am devoting what little reading time I may have, to this one book. Unheard of for me!

What about you? What’s in your bag this weekend?

    1. I am only 22% in and it’s got my attention. I know for sure I will be buying a copy when it comes out in PB.

  1. I need to pick this up. I’ve avoided it because I don’t like the cover. Isn’t that crazy? eBook will definitely be my route even if the paperback cover is different because it’s such a brick! 🙂

  2. I just started reading The Nurses: A Year of Secrets, Drama, and Miracles with the Heroes of the Hospital by Alexandra Robbins. So far, it’s really great.

  3. We’re headed to the lake this weekend and it’s supposed to be cold and rainy the entire time. You would think this would equate to lots of reading time…but it’ll mostly mean entertaining restless littles. LOL! I do hope to finish Flowers for Algernon, though!

I’ve been holding out on A Little Life…it’s been SO hyped lately that I’ve avoided it (also, like Jennifer I’m not a fan of the cover).

    1. Sometimes hype can kill a book but all I hear is how devastating it is. I can feel that vibe running through it but the writing! I have highlighted so many passages. I am glad I am reading this on my Kindle because my hand would cramp up if I had to write these notes by hand. The writing is reminding me of one of my faves books ever, A Separate Peace and that is probably why it’s totally consuming me.

  4. I have Fridays off so this is a 4 day weekend for me!! I’m just catching up on some series mysteries. I might have to check out “a Little Life”.

    1.  Lucky you! I could have taken today off but 6 months ago I made a doc appt for today, not realizing it was a holiday weekend. Bleh. Have a good one. It’s supposed to rain in So Cal today so I’m hoping my commute home is not going to be too bad.

  5. That cover looks fantastic! I have to finish up The Snowman tonight for book club tomorrow. We’re having a cookout too, which is going to be great. Other than Snowman, not sure I’ll have much time to read.

    1. We didn’t have a cookout this weekend since we were out of town but I will have to make up for that because I missed it! The first official cookout of the season and I missed it. I know, we have cookouts all the time in California but I like to pretend it’s a big thing.

  6. Sounds good, Ti 🙂 I’m going to see Tomorrowland with the family – my son is really excited! And I’m reading Fell of Dark, which is unlike any book I ever read. Check it out! Enjoy your weekend, fair lady 🙂

  7. I’m not surprised that you are liking this book. From what I hear, it sounds like your kind of story. Have a great weekend and hope your Dr. appointment has gone well enough. Take care!!

    1. Hope you had a lovely weekend. Our weather in Palm Springs was uncharacteristically cool! About 75. Very nice. The doc appt didn’t go all that well but I’m sure it could have gone a lot worse. I have follow ups and an appt with a specialistto take a look at some things.

  8. Well…I have that on my Kindle ready to go but I am just a tad afraid of it! I just have to dive in!

  9. I read this one so slow, purposely, as I wanted to take in every painful passage. I so loved this one and kept the book, something I never do once I’ve read a book.

  10. I had planned on doing some reading today but then it didn’t happen. I mowed the lawn instead. I do have a few choices for the weekend: two by Val McDermid, Fever of the Bone and The Retribution; Jo Nesbo’s Blood on Snow; and Wesley Chu’s The Deaths of Tao. I’ll probably alternate among McDermid’s and the other ones over the next couple of days.

  11. Sounds like your feeling better? Hope so! I am hoping to make a dent in the newest Jan Karon book, Somewhere Safe With Somebody Good. Reading this book is like sitting down with old friends.

    1. I didn’t get much reading done after all. I hate when that happens! But we were out of town and it wasn’t until I returned home that I pulled my books out.

  12. Have a great weekend! Looking forward to hearing your thoughts about this book. I haven’t read this author yet but both her books are on my must-read list.

I have been having a good reading weekend. I have no plans to step outside the house except for a trip tomorrow. I’ve been mostly tired so camping on my favorite reading chair and reading is what I am planning to do.

  13. It sounds like a good read. Others are talking of this as well. Right now I’m consumed with All the Light We Cannot See. !@!#!

    1. Turns out, I am reading All The Light We Cannot See as well! I forgot about my book club meeting next week so had to put it in the rotation. I am about 15% in and loving it.
