The Sunday Salon: Been a long time…

Sunday Salon

It’s been awhile since I posted a Salon post. I think I missed a week or two since I tend to stay away from the computer on the weekend. I spend so much time on it for work that when I get home, I can’t stand to be on it. Needless to say, I missed you!

The weekend has been nice. The horrible 110 degree weather of last week said goodbye (for now) and left us with sunny skies but cooler temps. Last night we hit a concert in one of our local parks. It was Led Zepp night. I never listened to the band growing up because I was more of a Mod-Punk listener, but I thought they were pretty good. We had a picnic and just watched The Boy receive texts and then wander off to say hello to his friends. There was a cloud of teens hanging out by the playground and I swear The Boy was called at least five times to go over there.

Today, we are just cleaning up around the house, watching movies, listening to music and reading. Later, we will indulge in a little Chinese food and probably watch more movies. It’s maybe a little predictable for me, but I can’t complain. I just love hanging out at home.

For those following my Jerk posts. The Boy found out last night that three of the players from the team, also his friends, quit right before a big tournament and left the Jerk hanging. I am hoping this guy is gone by the start of school and a new coach comes in. Then, maybe The Boy can try out as planned.

Anyway, I am off to do more laundry and finish The Bird Saviors. It got a little strange so I am not chunking away at it as I normally do.

What do you have planned for today?

  1. I plan on watching True Blood, Breaking Bad, Political Animals, Bridezillas, and Longmire tonight. I also plan to read.

    1. I’m not into TV right now but I have a bunch of old movies DVRd so I was able to get to two of them last night. Read a bit of The Prisoner of Heaven too. It was a relaxing day.

  2. Hello there! Kids sports and rotten coaches drive me insane. It is a real shame when this happens because it can completely ruin a kid’s experience, when it NEEDS to be a boost to their esteem and an opportunity to work on their skills. I like hanging out too on Sundays. We don’t do it very often unfortunately.

  3. I know what you mean about not caring to be on the computer so much after spending the day working on one. It’s especially bad for me this summer for some reason. The sight of my poor neglected laptop almost draws an audible “Meh” from me most days lately. Frankly, I’m worried about myself. 😉

Sundays are great for just relaxing and catching up around the house. Whenever I’m away or have plans for a Sunday I feel like I was robbed of my beloved down time. Enjoy!

    1. Well, it doesn’t help that my MacBook’s screen goes black every time I try to type on it. I have a new one that work gave me but it’s not set-up on the PC side yet so I can’t take it home. But in reality, I really don’t need to be online on the weekend.

  4. Bad coach stuff is such a drag since it hurts kids. I hope the guy moves on before school begins so your son and his friends can play on the team and have a great season

    1. I seriously hope he moves on. But, The Boy is now thinking about going out for volleyball in addition to cross country so maybe it’s a blessing.

  5. I can understand about not wanting to be on the computer over the weekend. Sometimes I dread it too. Sounds like the family had a great time together and that’s what it is all about!!!

  6. I stay off the computer at least every Sunday…except this past one since I had a review due for TLC today. I’m so happy to hear that the kids took action against the Jerk! Led Zepp rocks…always loved them and some days my daughter has this scream that reminds me of the Immigrant Song’s beginning.

    1. I want you to know that I Googled Immigrant’s Song so I could hear the opening. LOL. My own kids sound like that sometimes. Even now!

  7. Sounds like a lovely Sunday. I’ve been trying to stay off the computer over the weekend for a while now but feel guilty about not commenting on my favorite blogs!

    1. I always make the rounds during the week, so I don’t get the guilties but with this hand problem, I haven’t been able to comment as much. I’m reading though!

  8. I am so glad that The Boy’s friends are standing by him. It must have cost them a lot to have quit like that. It sounds like you are having a very relaxing Sunday, and even though my weekend hasn’t been quiet, I am hoping that next Saturday will be a time for me to just sit and read or listen for long periods of time.

    1. I don’t think they quit for him. They quit because the guy is a major jerk to everyone. They couldn’t stand the idea of a weekend in San Diego playing for this guy. Now, they are all talking about going out for Volleyball!

  9. The concert sounds like fun, in the park, outside…

Fantastic news regarding the jerk! I hope this ends like you would like it too and your son gets back on the team.

I have about one more month of fun craziness, I’m not complaining but like you… I have decided to all but cut my internet time this summer. Life is too short to sit in front of this electronic gadget. 🙂

Have a great week! ps: thank goodness for instagram and fb… I get to keep up with everyone.

  10. If the Jerk scares off enough kids, the school will eventually have no choice but to get rid of him, I would think. I assume this is at a level that builds up to varsity? The varsity coach can’t have the freshman level kids leaving the sport.
