The Sunday Salon: The Show, The Holidays and some other stuff…

The Sunday Salon

This has been a gorgeous weekend yet I spent the entire weekend doing errands again. Sometimes, I think I have no life.

The final cast list for Alice was posted last week. The Boy got the part he wanted. Yay! The Girl, who got hit with stage fright didn’t, but she’s since recovered. She’s a bit more resilient when it comes to stuff like this.

Did you see the Sunday paper this morning? Lots of ads for Christmas layaways. I started my shopping a few weeks ago, but only because stuff was on sale. With it being 85 degrees here in So Cal, I am not feeling it yet. However, The Girl has her costume ready for Halloween but The Boy can’t figure out what he wants to be. I hate that most of these costumes are cheaply made yet incredibly expensive. I’d rather go to Disneyland than buy them, but you know how it is.

I’ve been reading a couple of books that are not working for me. Both have gotten a ton of praise. I won’t mention them here because I am still reading them and I am hoping they’ll become fascinating pretty soon but right now all I can think is Zzzzzzzz.

Since the weather is so nice, we are throwing some steaks on the grill and just relaxing. Seriously, it still feels like summer here! Hope your Sunday is wonderful!

  1. We had a really warm weekend too, but it’s supposed to cool off this week.

Since we only shop for adults, I don’t have much Christmas shopping to do, and that makes me kind of sad.

  2. Congrats to the boy! And I totally share your view of cheaply made but expensive Halloween costumes. It is such a rip off. Almost enough to make me want to make my own … if I could sew!

  3. It all sounds good…and it also sounds as though you feel better…our week end seemed to zip by, too…that is always sad…

It was crisply cool here and it felt so good…

I know what you mean about the quality of costumes…and those are the ones they seem to want!!!

    1. The pain is gone. I still feel funky but not like I need to see a doc or anything. I hate when a non-work day is spent feeling ill!

  4. My stepdaughter hasn’t gotten a costume yet, so I am sure there will be some shopping for that during the upcoming weekend. I have usually started my Christmas shopping by now but so far it hasn’t happened yet!

  5. Congrats to The Boy! I wish I was barbecuing but alas it is much too cold for that here. I’ve been thinking about my Christmas shopping and looking around but haven’t bought anything yet. Hope you have a good week Ti.

  6. Congrats to your son getting his desired part in the play! We don’t have much holiday shopping to do (just 9) people and it is mostly gift cards so for us it is easy.

    Hope u have a great week. I didn’t get much reading done as I had a bit of a 24 hour bug…ugh

  7. Is also still quite hot here too. We had two grandkids for the weekend, keeping us very busy. We got a last minute twist when thrown a project to help our 6 year old grandson with. Ended up being fun and now he will have a respectable decorated fake pumpkin to take to school today.

  8. We had a nice warm weekend as well and We got out on Saturday to see Alma Katsu…which was nice…she’s so lovely and seems to have a “goofiness” about her that I appreciate in any writer! I had planned to plant the bulbs for the spring flower season, but that didn’t happens, so many this week sometime. Now, I really am curious what books are making you think “ZZZZ”

  9. Yay, for the boy getting the part he wanted and glad to hear the girl is not too disappointed. We’re now at the stage where costumes are created and 9 times out of 10 no one knows who our boy is. This year is no exception (though I think his idea rocks). Hope your books turn around into good reads.

    1.  My son’s idea was pretty good too, but since his friends didn’t have a clue who Steve Jobs was… he doesn’t expect them to know “Mayhem” from the Allstate commercials.

  10. Congratulations to The Boy, glad to hear The Girl took the news well. Great life lesson for her and her attitude sounds great.

I haven’t been reading…. not sure if it’s better to read a bad book or not have time. I’m hoping this all changes this week (last week was tough, way too busy).

Send some warm weather this way, I’m in the middle of a project that requires warmer weather…

    1. I will gladly send you some of our warm weather. It’s nice when you have the weekend to enjoy it, but it sucks when I am stuck here in this basement office without a window to at least look at it. Yes, it’s Monday!

  11. Glad to hear that the boy got the part he wanted! I know how you feel about having a nice weekend ruined by having to do endless errands. That happens to me every weekend. I am hoping that I can convince my husband that I need to stay home next weekend for the readathon though! I am a little glad that my kids are too old to go trick-or-treating at times. It does save money on the costumes, but they sure do miss it!

    1. Well, The Boy is a tween but they roam in packs and trick-or-treat that way. However, I am sort of hoping he  gets invited to a party this year instead.

I need a day each week just for errands. Monday would be good. Think my boss would approve? LOL.

  12. Congratulations to your son for getting the part he wanted! I am glad your daughter is doing well despite not getting the part she tried out for. I was always in the chorus–too afraid to try out for a significant role. Not that I had the talent for it. LOL

I can’t believe Christmas is so close. I haven’t even begun thinking of Christmas gifts. Ugh.

I hope you have a great week!

  13. Sad to hear about the “boring” books. Right now I am reading a classic “Congo” by Michael Crichton. I seriously recommend this one. It still excites me even though it is over 35 years old.

  14. I envy your gorgeous weather right now!! Last week I watched my son play football in 40 degree blustery weather…oh well! 😀 I’m so glad that I’m past the Halloween outfits and stuff. I’m trying to get a head start on Christmas this year. I hope those books turn out better for you!

  15. Yea for the boy! Our weekend was so grand that I am spending tonight catching up. It was over 100 here on Thurs, Friday and even Saturday at one point.

  16. Congratulations to your son! I feel the same way about how costumes cost, but then I flash back to when I was growing up and my sisters and I had one communal clown outfit that we all wore at some point (depending on who fit in it that year). Otherwise we had to create our own costume or just not dress up. I didn’t dress up for most of my childhood. It’s just one of many reasons why I’m not a fan of clowns (although Stephen King gets the larger part of the blame).

Anyway, I’ll be heading to the store with my kids to get costumes this afternoon and trying not to cringe over the prices.

    1.  It might be too late to do this this year, but next year, I am going to do a Costume Swap event. Leave a costume, take a costume.
