Random Thoughts: Thanksgiving Prep

  1. Cooking with The Girl is an adventure. It’s a wonder that anything lands in the pot.
  2. Everything tastes better with butter or cream. Everything.
  3. Fine china is too pretty to use just a couple of times a year.
  4. It’s important to have regular meals while cooking all this food because a taste here and a taste there and all of a sudden…you’ve had your Thanksgiving meal. Ugh.
  5. The cornbread dressing did not come close to Momo’s dressing, until I burned it. Now it tastes just like hers!
  6. Wine. Specifically red wine makes me a better cook. Well, it certainly makes me a happier cook. La la la. See how happy I am?

While the pie is in the oven, I am waiting for The Boy to call me so that I can pick him up. He got out of school early and asked if he and his friends could grab a burger next door. His “friends” include a girl that he likes. He wanted to treat her to lunch. I’m not sure my brain is ready to absorb this piece of information but I figured, lunch with friends is innocent enough. Apparently, the winter formal is coming up. Need I say more?

I probably won’t be online tomorrow, so I must tell you all how much you mean to me. Your comments, your emails and your friendship mean the world to me. You make my work day that much brighter and when I am down, all I have to do is open my reader and within minutes, I am feeling so much better. You guys rock!!

Happy Thanksgiving to you. May you find joy in all that you do.

  1. Hold on Ti…when you add girls to the mix life great crazy for sure! I just dropped my son off with his girlfriend at the mall so they could watch a movie, eat dinner, and walk the mall holding hands!!! 😀

Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family!!

  2. Oh wow, taking a girl for lunch! I’m with Staci – hold on, and store up lots of red wine!!!

I agree with you on the everything tastes better with butter. And also, brown sugar.

    Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!!!

  3. Happy Thanksgiving. We are home, relaxing… I’m sneaking a peak on the internet while DH plays Mario on the golf sim. 🙂

What would you say if I told you I can’t stand butter? Sad but true. I have a valid reason though… my brother made me eat two sticks as a young girl (about 7/8)… in one sitting, while he was babysitting me.

    1. Oh Mari! That’s horrible! I had a friend dare me to eat a Miracle Whip Popsicle once so you can guess how I feel about Miracle Whip.

I am stuffed to the gills so all I can do right now is check email. Ugh.

  4. I hope your thanksgiving was lovely. Mine also had much needed wine, but I got lucky and didn’t have to cook. (was also staying in a hotel, so would have been hard!) I agree with your whole last paragraph, I’m so thankful for the blogging community and my dear friends in it. xxoo

  5. I just so loved this post … your cooking observations were priceless.

And I don’t think I would EVER be ready for my son to start liking girls like that. You’re heading into a strange new world.

  6. Such an entertaining post – especially the part about the burnt dressing! My mother-in-law doesn’t allow the adults to eat breakfast on Turkey day (because we have our big meal at lunch). She wants everyone to eat a lot at lunch time. I cheated this year though and went next door to my parents house to eat cookies for breakfast. 🙂

  7. The Girl and my daughter sound like they are very much the same in the kitchen! My daughter is finally getting to the point, at almost 16, where I can send her to the kitchen to bake something on her own.

It really was unfair of God to make the things that taste the best, butter and cream, the most unhealthy things for you!

  8. How sweet that you and your daughter are cooking together…and you found the secret to mom’s stuffing! lol

I like to use the fine china at least once a month because it seems silly to keep it locked away when it’s so pretty. And it makes any meal more festive.

Of course butter or cream makes everything taste better…use them together and any food is sublime! lol

Wow, the boy is growing up! It’s adorable that he wants to take the girl he likes to lunch! But I cannot imagine dealing with crushes, dating etc. with one’s children. Good Luck, Ti! Hang in there.
