Sunday Matters: Mentally Preparing

sunday-matters (1)
Happy Sunday, beautiful people. I really like the slower pace of summer but I do feel a little out of touch with you all. I’ve not been great with my blog reading. I will get back to that next week. I’ve been working on a project and it takes me away from my daily routine. I think I have a handle on it now, though.

What plans do you have for today? I am purposely keeping my plans simple this month as I am mentally preparing for that return to the office. There is a tiny part of me that wants to fit a lot in before I go back but after the shutdown I am easily overwhelmed by too much. I shall ease into it.

Right Now:

I have student ministry until about 1pm and then the day is wide open for lounging, reading, etc. I will enjoy my coffee and yogurt/granola bowl and head off.

Reading:

I finished It All Comes Down To This by Therese Anne Fowler. The review is here. It just didn’t work for me.

I finished Beartown. I need to write the review but I have to think about it a little more. I was really liking it and then at some point I fell out of love with it but then back to like. More thoughts later.

What will I read next? Crying in H Mart for book club. We meet this Wednesday and I really need to hop on it because I had trouble finding a copy.

Crying in H Mart

Watching:

We are still watching the Korean zombie show, Sweet Home. It’s not as well done as some of the other Korean dramas we’ve watched but it’s perfect to escape into without much thought. The pup does not like the zombie sounds.

Speaking of the pup, we watched the new Pet Sematary and she really did not like that movie. Church, the cat reminded her a little too much of Root Beer.

Grateful for:

  • After years of construction in my neighborhood and the streets being all torn up by large trucks, we are finally getting repaved. It makes everything look so nice and new. I hope the speed bumps go back in though because these people drive like crazy people.
  • Small, crossbody bags. Ever since the big Northridge quake I’d carry around these huge bags that I could literally live off of for days. But this back of mine can’t take it anymore so those cool crossbody bags are what I tote around now and it’s enough.

Have a wonderful Sunday! I am trying to enjoy every day leading up to my return to work on 8/9. It’s coming up fast.

Sunday Matters: I’m Back

After my week at camp,  I was exhausted and just lost track of time. Didn’t mean to take a break but that’s what I ended up doing. The week went very well. I love those students and leaders so much. Now I am fully rested and ready to catch-up on reading and everything else. How have you been? Have I missed any big news?

Right Now:

In a minute I’ll be at student ministry. Gotta grab one more cup of coffee.

Reading:

I finished It All Comes Down To This by Therese Anne Fowler but totally forgot the ending so had to read the last few pages again. I need to write the review but this one will be tricky to write.

It All Comes Down to This

I am about halfway through with Beartown. Yes! I am finally reading it. I wasn’t too jazzed about it because I am not into hockey but it’s not at all what I expected. I should be done with it this weekend.

Watching:

We started a Korean show called Sweet Home. It’s very weird and borders on hokey. The CGI is not the greatest. It’s a pandemic where people turn into horrible monsters but many different types of monsters. Right now at three episodes in I am not sure where the story can go. It seems like a lot of carnage with no way out of it.

Grateful for:

  • Great books on my “to be read” shelf. I am at no shortage of good books this summer.
  • DIY hair color. I became a pro at it during the pandemic when my stylist closed up shop without warning. It’s easy, cheap and makes me look ten years younger.

Have a wonderful Sunday! My daughter is still home and has a friend visiting this week. I did buy her plane ticket back so she will be back in Missouri 8/6. Also, I go back to work two days a week beginning 8/9!
