The Sunday Salon: Birthday Weekend

Sunday Salon

We celebrated The Hub’s birthday this weekend so that meant a movie and dinner out! We hardly ever go to the movies, anymore. Mainly because the cost of taking a family these days is just ridiculous, but mostly because I cannot stand it when everyone takes their phones out, starts talking or is just plain irritating. So when we go, we go to one of those “reserve your seat” theaters  It’s worth it to me to spend a few extra dollars to get the experience we want.

We went to see this:

Iron Man 3

Iron Man 3 was loads of fun despite its slow start and having a villain that was just barely a villain (in my opinion). But if you are familiar with the movies at all, you know how charming Robert Downey Jr. can be, and he was. Very funny too. In the hands of director Shane Black, a little bit darker than what we’ve seen so far but we enjoyed it. And not one person took out their phone! It was a perfect viewing experience.

Afterward, we hit a restaurant for steaks. You’d think with all that popcorn and snacking that we’d want something lighter but no, everyone wanted steaks so that’s what we had. It was a good day.

Today, The Girl is going to a BBQ, The Boy will be working on school stuff and I, (unfortunately) probably have to hit the market. Ugh. I really do not like the market and to add insult to injury, I am out of coffee! What? No coffee on a Sunday morning. It’s tragic.

I am in a little reading funk right now. After reading The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle for #winditup2013, I don’t feel like reading anything else. I need a few days to digest it.

Tomorrow, tickets go on sale for Beauty and the Beast! It’s getting close and with it, begins our busy summer. What do you have planned for today?

The Sunday Salon: I LOVE The Weekend

Sunday Salon

Sigh. Weekends aren’t always relaxing for me, but they are much appreciated, even when they involve cleaning and errands the constant chauffeuring of these kids of mine. Gosh, they are busy!

And The Boy just got busier. He’s in choir, but he auditioned for this other group in choir called the Madrigals and he made it. His “initiation” took place the other day and involved a “kidnapping” at the crack of dawn. I kept it quiet, but I think someone tipped him off as he wasn’t too surprised that these kids were in his room and jumping on his bed! This is the finished result. I was kidnapped when I made pep squad in high school. It’s all in fun.

The Girl begins rehearsal this week for her choral group and she is also signing up for a couple of craft clubs. She is VERY excited about summer day camp, which is just around the corner. The countdown has begun. Summer will be busy but hopefully fun too. Mmmmm. I can already smell the Hawaiian Tropic (which now smells like the original Coppertone of my youth).

This weekend has been spent watching movies even though I had planned to get more reading in. Some days, I just don’t feel like thinking and yesterday was one of those days. We watched movies all day long and I was just fine with it. We watched two Bond films (Dr. No and A View to a Kill), an 80’s movie (Back to School) and today I think we may watch another Bond film (Tomorrow Never Dies).

Later, we plan to BBQ some burgers as it is just gorgeous out! What do you have planned for today?
