The Sunday Salon: Post Game Stupor

Canyon / Hart Game 2013

We are all recovering from our big win over our crosstown rivals. It’a always the biggest game of the year and it was standing room only. It was crazy!! RIVERS of kids, everywhere. All of the aisles were blocked. Getting to the concession stand or restroom was out of the question and it was cold! But, we won and of course that made up for all of it.

The Teen had to stay and clean-up which meant he stumbled through the door at 1:30 a.m. That meant, no sleep for the parentals until he got home. We slept in on Saturday and we slept in today and we are still staggering around. Thank goodness for the holiday tomorrow. Of course, I booked doctor’s appointments tomorrow so they wouldn’t miss school for them. Ugh. Why do I do that?

Today, The Girl is going to Hollywood with her friends for a birthday party. That means I will have a few hours of quiet time. Let’s see if I try to clean the oven or something. Inside joke, since doing that last week rendered my oven useless. I have since fixed it, thanks to YouTube but I don’t know why I try to fill my quiet time with chores. It’s a habit I need to break.

What am I reading?

I am reading The Abominable by Dan Simmons. It’s slow going. Not because of the book, but because of me! I haven’t been in the mood to read all week. I am also reading World War Z, which is more my speed at the moment. It’s a good fit since I am so hooked on The Walking Dead. I am all caught up to the current season now. Gosh, I love that show.

What am I cooking?

I made fried tacos yesterday. Yes, FRIED. Good grief. They were stuffed and deep fried. They were good. REALLY good but I had trouble just eating two of them. Very filling. Tonight we are grilling steaks. The Girl has been asking for steaks all week. So, tonight we are grilling steaks and corn and cooking up the biggest baked potatoes I could find.

What am I watching?

This weekend started off with 80’s movies. Just One of the Guys is probably one of my faves. I am feeling the itch to watch Christmas Vacation. I know!! With all the Christmas stuff out, I actually started my shopping which included Michael Buble’s Christmas CD. I am also loving Kelly Clarkson’s Underneath the Tree. It reminds me a lot of Mariah Carey’s All I Want for Christmas. I love it.

What have you been up to?

The Sunday Salon: Checking In

Sunday Salon

Hello! Stopping by for a quick ‘hello’ before I take a much-needed nap. This time change is wonderful! I feel as if I’ve had a full day, but I am way sleepy and want to kick back with a book and maybe, just maybe, take a cat nap. Think it will happen? It might. The Girl has been totally absorbed with her new Kindle Fire and the novelty has yet to wear off so I am going to take advantage of that.

What am I reading?

I am reading a lot, but haven’t had the energy to write any reviews. I’ve got to write them soon though because the details are already slipping from my mind. Let’s see, what am I reading? I am reading The Shining Girls. Meh. I am not liking it all that much and it’s gotten so much buzz. I just started The Abominable but haven’t read enough to give it a fair shake yet. I’ve also started How To Be a Good Wife. That one is very interesting. Not sure what to make of it yet.

What am I cooking?

Yesterday I made homemade spaghetti sauce so we will probably have that tonight. I am not in the mood to cook. I had some weird reaction to food recently and my mouth is swelling in the same spot I had a problem with last March. Long story short, unless the food is very soft, I don’t really have an appetite for it. Auto-immune issues suck.

What am I watching?

Oh my goodness. I have discovered The Walking Dead. With all that I had going on, I needed a distraction and let me tell you, I could not have picked a better show. I started with the first episode last week and I am already half-way through season three! I love it!

Thank you all for the kind emails and Facebook posts. It’s been a rough couple of weeks. We have started the “fixing” that needs to take place and I feel more like myself, but there are times where I feel very low. The flip side is that through all of this, I’ve turned to walking and I have lost ten pounds just from pounding the pavement. Hard to believe that just a few miles a day could make that much of a difference but it can.

I hope you are all well and that you are enjoying the weekend. Off I go to take that nap.
