The Sunday Salon: Post Game Stupor

Canyon / Hart Game 2013

We are all recovering from our big win over our crosstown rivals. It’a always the biggest game of the year and it was standing room only. It was crazy!! RIVERS of kids, everywhere. All of the aisles were blocked. Getting to the concession stand or restroom was out of the question and it was cold! But, we won and of course that made up for all of it.

The Teen had to stay and clean-up which meant he stumbled through the door at 1:30 a.m. That meant, no sleep for the parentals until he got home. We slept in on Saturday and we slept in today and we are still staggering around. Thank goodness for the holiday tomorrow. Of course, I booked doctor’s appointments tomorrow so they wouldn’t miss school for them. Ugh. Why do I do that?

Today, The Girl is going to Hollywood with her friends for a birthday party. That means I will have a few hours of quiet time. Let’s see if I try to clean the oven or something. Inside joke, since doing that last week rendered my oven useless. I have since fixed it, thanks to YouTube but I don’t know why I try to fill my quiet time with chores. It’s a habit I need to break.

Sunday Salon

What am I reading?

I am reading The Abominable by Dan Simmons. It’s slow going. Not because of the book, but because of me! I haven’t been in the mood to read all week. I am also reading World War Z, which is more my speed at the moment. It’s a good fit since I am so hooked on The Walking Dead. I am all caught up to the current season now. Gosh, I love that show.

What am I cooking?

I made fried tacos yesterday. Yes, FRIED. Good grief. They were stuffed and deep fried. They were good. REALLY good but I had trouble just eating two of them. Very filling. Tonight we are grilling steaks. The Girl has been asking for steaks all week. So, tonight we are grilling steaks and corn and cooking up the biggest baked potatoes I could find.

What am I watching?

This weekend started off with 80’s movies. Just One of the Guys is probably one of my faves. I am feeling the itch to watch Christmas Vacation. I know!! With all the Christmas stuff out, I actually started my shopping which included Michael Buble’s Christmas CD. I am also loving Kelly Clarkson’s Underneath the Tree. It reminds me a lot of Mariah Carey’s All I Want for Christmas. I love it.

What have you been up to?

  1. Life is too busy…you need to learn to not make appointments on days off…it’s so much more fun!

We are watching the Eagles/Packers game…I think you might be, too!

  2. Go team! That’s awesome about the win 🙂 I am hoping to catch up on Walking Dead today – I’m behind by two eps. Fried tacos sounds delicious! I am so in the Christmas spirit as well – the tree is up and decorations are going up later today. I have been listening to Xmas music all week 🙂 I love Just One of The Guys – it is one of my fave 80s movies!! Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

  3. I well remember those big games! Unfortunately for Vance, his high school NEVER won that game while he went there. I can’t believe they don’t pay someone to clean up after the game.

    1. Kathy, custodial cleans up the stands but ASB is responsible for the technical break down and confetti cannons on the field. Also, the speakers sand lights etc.

    1. Walking Dead is very graphic but I got used to it by season 3. LOL. I can’t watch it with the girl around, but she did catch me once and saw one clip of a zombie getting his head whacked off and she thought it was cool. I don’t think she could stand the evisceration of so many humans though. That would be too real for her.

  4. My husband is a truck driver. He was working for the post office as a truck driver, but got laid off. He is now driving regional and is over the road. I am trying to get use to him being on the road again. He did over the road early on in our marriage. I haven’t read a book lately. He is home today, so I am not doing anything.

    1. I imagine that driving a truck would be tough. Just being on the road for so long would drive me nuts but I am sure you miss him too with him being gone a lot.

  5. Wish I could eat dinner at your house tonight – yum. Hurray for your team! Our high school had a big football win this weekend, too. The kids are all so excited… we continue on to the state tournament now.

    1. I was never all that into high school football but since the teen has to work all of the games, we’ve been going and enjoying ourselves. It’s a lot of fun but the girl gets so bored. Once the nachos run out, so does she. LOL.

  6. Lol – your house is like ours. When Miss H is gone, the house is so much quieter. We’re lucky they want to be with us, but goodness, enjoy your quiet time when you get it!

  7. Yeah for The Walking Dead! I actually watched World War Z the other day with my husband and enjoyed it, though it was not what I was expecting. I am curious to hear what you end up thinking about the book since I hear the book and movie are different.

I hope you get in some relaxing this week. The chores can wait!! 🙂

  8. We had one of those games early in the season, against the high school literally a mile down the road. We hadn’t played them in like 20 years, and we won too. It was chaotically awesome. And I laughed out loud at your making doctor appointments on the day off. I did the same thing a week ago. It’s what you have to do. And LOVE Christmas Vacation. It is something we have to watch at least once or twice a season every year.
