The Sunday Salon: Long Weekend Bliss

The Sunday Salon Button

Is it really Sunday? With furloughs and the holiday weekend, I’ve been blessed with a glorious 5-day weekend. It’s the kind of bliss that allows you to forget what day it is. Gosh, I love my time off.

One of the reasons that I am really lovin’ the time off is this…

The Passage Book Cover

I picked this up on Saturday and I have been reading it ever since. The Passage by Justin Cronin has got to be THE book of the summer. It comes out on June 8th but it’s everything that you’d expect from a great summer read and then some. I had to force myself to hit the sack last night and I only gave in, because my over-forty physique was screaming from my cramped reading position. As soon as I got up this morning I went right back to it. I even skipped food! A first! I am about halfway through and at 766 pages that’s pretty good.

The other thing that I have been enjoying is pure family fun and lots of cook-outs. We’ve been hanging around the house, lounging out in the backyard in this 95 degree weather and cooking up a storm.  Tonight we are grilling burgers and roasting some corn and then after the kids hit the sack, we plan to watch Less Than Zero. You may recall it from the 80’s. Robert Downey Jr and Andrew McCarthy along with Jami Gertz. I’ve seen it a dozen times but haven’t seen it in a while so that’s the plan for tonight. Oh, and a bit of trivia for you, it was based on Bret Easton Ellis’ book of the same name and the sequel to the book comes out late June.

I hope you are all enjoying the weekend as much as I am.

The Sunday Salon: Busy, but Fun

Kindle Case

This photo has nothing to do with anything except that I am loving the new case that I got for my Kindle. I got it here, in case anyone needs one. So many of the cases out there are sort of masculine and, well…boring. This one has a pocket to hold the charger (big plus). I love it.

Yesterday we went to see Iron Man 2. I really liked it but can I just say that the cost of going to the movies these days is a bit much? A family of four, plus popcorn and some drinks came to $80. That’s a significant amount of change.

The Sunday Salon

Today I got to sleep in a bit which was lovely. After a quick cup of coffee we went out to breakfast and then hit the zoo. It was a bit hot and crowded but it was good to get out on such a nice day.

On the reading front, I’ve been reading Legend of a Suicide and The Glass Room. Both are really good but I have to put The Glass Room aside for a while as I have a tour coming up for Legend which snuck up on me a little bit. You know how that is.

It’s mid-May, it’s hot and school is beginning to wind down a bit. I was told by the little one that swim lessons are not needed this year. She was quite the swimmer last year, but a summer without swim lessons? Feels a little odd to me. Okay, I am also going to miss reading by the pool but swim lessons SCREAM summer to me. Perhaps I should work on my summer reading list instead.

Tonight, we are watching Old Dogs and cooking up a couple of pizzas. What do you have planned?
