Sunday Matters: The End of the School Year is Approaching

sunday-matters (1)
Hello, again! These Sundays seems to come around quickly. We are in a heat wave here. Close to 95 degree temps this past week. I enjoy the warm weather. If summer could cap itself at 90 I would be a happy lady. Last year we had a pretty mild summer. I don’t think it once hit 120 but this year has been unpredictable. I certainly hope this early warm weather isn’t hinting at a sweltering summer.

It feels like just yesterday when I was stressing over moving the Girl to Missouri and now we are about to plan her move back. It’s all up in the air right now because we still aren’t sure about summer acting plans. We need to figure out the storage situation as she won’t be able to move into her apartment until August. Flights are always difficult with that tiny airport in Springfield. She always has to drive to another airport and she has no car so it’s a challenge. Wish us luck.

Right Now:

Student ministry is still on break but I have lunch with some of the leaders today. We are hitting up an Indian buffet and I can’t wait. Their food is yummy and I am so glad that buffets post-Covid are starting to come back.

Reading:

I finished Murakami T: The T-Shirts I Love. It was a lot of fun to read about his favorite t-shirts. Seems like an odd topic but in his hands it’s always interesting. My review of Greenwich Park  posted last Friday so stop by if you missed it.

My current read is Nan Rossiter’s new one, A Good Measure. It comes out April 12th and Nan has offered me a copy to giveaway so look for that review soon.

A Good Measure

Watching:

We started Ozark. We are halfway through season one. That is one wild show.

Grateful for:

  • Booster #2. I debated getting it because of my kidney issues but ended up getting it. No issues so far.
  • Book mail. I don’t know about other bloggers but I had a dry spell for awhile and received no books for months. The other day I received two. It made me so happy.

Have a wonderful Sunday and great week! My family is not on board with me cooking an Easter meal so I have no idea what we will do next weekend.

The Short of It:

If you are into page-turners, Greenwich Park should be your next read.

The Rest of It:

Helen and Daniel are expecting a baby. They live in a beautiful house that Helen’s family left to her. Every day Helen realizes how lucky they are to live in such a beautiful home and after several  miscarriages, she is finally looking forward to having a baby boy. Plus, she’s lucky to have her brother Rory and his wife Serena, also pregnant, living close by.

One day, at a pre-natal class she meets another young mother by the name of Rachel. Rachel is a little bit odd. Kind of loud and brash. The father of Rachel’s child isn’t in the picture so when Rachel attempts to make friends with Helen, she reluctantly gives in, feeling a little sorry for the girl. Lunch here and there. Tea. It isn’t such a horrible ask until Rachel shows up with bruises around her neck and asks to live with Helen and Daniel.

Daniel is immediately put off by the request but Helen, fearing for the girl’s safety, allows her to stay for a day or two. What is this girl’s story? Who is hurting her? What does she do in her free time? She has plenty of money but doesn’t appear to have any kind of job.

As Helen’s due date approaches, the mystery ramps up and the tension runs high as Helen tries to figure out a way to get rid of Rachel without hurting the girl’s feelings.

What Helen doesn’t realize is that none of this is accidental.

Oh, I love a book that gives you a reason to forgot all household duties. Dinner? Nah. I gotta get back to my book. Laundry? Only if I can read in-between loads. I RACED through this one. Actually, I tried to read it a long time ago and put it down for something but when I picked it up again this past week I flew through it. I highly recommend it.
