Good morning! There is a lot going on in the news cycle of late. Hurricane Helene, political junk and the like. Many of you are dealing with the aftermath of Helene and honestly, I am praying for you. I’ve been ousted from an earthquake, fire(s), but the devastating lead-up to a hurricane of this magnitude has got to be exhausting and terrifying. Please let us know that you are good. Some of you got out just in time.
Right Now:
Like every Sunday, I am with students in student ministry but I added another hat to my head, online ministry host! Our services stream live so I get to hang out with folks in chat. I do that in the morning and then head right into students. It’s new and different. I like doing both.
This Week:
Sometimes I am way extroverted and other times not so much. I have nothing on the calendar for this week. Yes!! I mean, I am working but no extra anythings to attend.
I am deep into Of Human Bondage for our read along and often find myself anxious to get back to it. I’ve been pondering the meaning of the title. Since I have nothing going on this week I should be able to get through this week’s reading just fine.
Reading:
- Of Human Bondage by W. Somerset Maugham
- Here One Moment by Liane Moriarty (one more chapter left!)
- Beware of Pity by Stefan Zweig (for Oct book club, almost done, very interesting)
Next up:
- The Midnight Feast by Lucy Foley
- Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt
- The Great Believers by Rebecca Makkai (Nov book club)
Watching:
Still watching Tulsa King. Stallone is just too good in it.
Grateful for:
Clean MRI. Got my results back from 10/8. All good.
6 books on your radar, that feels like a lot, but they also all seem so good. What a joy!
This weekend is less busy than I often am, which feels pretty good. There always seems to be so much going on.
My Sundays are super busy but Saturday was chill. Just napped and read. Perfect day, actually.
Great news that your MRI is okay! Our house is on slightly higher ground, so we were lucky not to have flooding during Milton. So many friends and neighbors had more serious damage. Still waiting for power, water, etc, so we’ll be in CT a while longer.
That’s true. The double whammy of Milton and Helene really did a number on folks. I am glad your house escaped flooding!
Hooray for the clean MRI!!! Hope you can do something fun to celebrate. Nice dinner out somewhere?
I haven’t celebrated yet. It was a busy weekend but soon, for sure.
of Human Bondage makes me nostalgic. Read it decades ago.
the news is very heavy on all fronts.
It was on my radar for a long time but I thought it would be very dense so was putting it off. So glad to be reading it now.
I’m struggling keeping up with Of Human Bondage. Not that I’m not liking it – think I would have done better with it if I had the physical book, for some reason.
I started with the physical book which was great but then my pup started fussing at my reading light in bed so I found a copy on Hoopla and began to read it on my phone. Not the most ideal reading format but for bed, that’s what I’m doing. So when I switch to physical book I just have to find the chapter I was in.

No worries. Read it at your own pace.
Hi, I am new here and will read “THE GREAT BELIEVERS” through November.
Your tests coming back clean is wonderful.
I have not decided. what to read in November along with the novel above. I usually chose when I finish a book.
I also follow you on IG 🌺
Oh good!! So you will be reading The Great Believers when I am. Thank you for following me on Insta. I do remember seeing you on there.
Hooray for the clean MRI! So good to hear. That’s definitely good news. As always, I’ve bit off more than I can do with Swim Team and Meets, so reading has fallen off.
