Sunday Matters: All Good

Sunday Matters

This week was pretty good. The weather was better. When you are stuck in the house, just looking out a window and seeing blue skies is comforting.

Blue sky

Right Now:

Online church. It will be so good once we can all actually be in the building together. I am meeting with my high school group later in Zoom, too.

For the rest of the afternoon, cleaning out the garage. It’s become a dumping zone for everything not wanted. I don’t mind cleaning and organizing. I find it oddly soothing.

This Week:

More. Of. The. Same. As you can imagine. Work, M-F.

Going to try to work a couple of books in. I am once again in the mood to read.

I want to paint something in my Bible. I’ve not tried it before but I just want something pretty on the inside cover. The only supplies I have are watercolors so if I use very little water perhaps it could work.

Reading:

I am reading Ruth Ware’s The Lying Game. I also have a copy of The Glass Hotel which is getting a lot of attention right now. I may read that one next. Okay, I lied. I just checked and I do not have that one. I seriously thought I did. Darn. Oh well, I have plenty of review copies to read and my friend has been asking me to read Small Great Things. Perhaps, now is the time.

Watching:

I watched the bonus Tiger King episode. Waste of time. My husband also wanted to watch the TMZ special and that was not horrible but provided no new info.

Turner Classic Movies has a bunch of good movies coming on soon so I recorded a few that I’ve always wanted to see like The Lady Vanishes.

New Things I’ve Tried:

I tried a new turkey meat loaf recipe because ground beef or sirloin is a rarity where I am. This meat loaf was delicious and easy and everyone ate it, even my kids who are not usually fans of meat loaf. I made a double batch so I could have some sandwiches later.

Grateful for:

  • Every single worker on the front lines
  • Better weather
  • Kind gestures

Is everyone okay? Everyone healthy? I have some friends who have relatives who are sick or have been sick but they all seem to be improving. Thank you, God.

  1. It’s easier to say all the things we’re not doing right now, isn’t it?

I’ve had a few friends recommend Tiger King and a few others say not to bother so I haven’t decided if I’ll watch it or not.

  2. We love meatloaf but have never tried it with turkey. Do u have a good online recipe to share? Glad u had a decent week. We have note been able to get toilet paper in 5 weeks! My husband no long jokes about the 3 packages of 12 in the garage!

Small Great Things was a good one IMO.

  3. We’re doing okay here, too though this morning I woke up and thought: oh god, yet another day that is almost exactly the same as all the others. Ugh. I think you’ll like Small Great Things as it’s really good! We in So Cal are in for a treat weather-wise this week so sitting in the garden is on the agenda for us.

  4. We’re OK. One of Kim’s sisters in Delaware had a presumptive case of COVID-19 (she’s improving) and their mom, who lives with Kim’s sister has it. The good news is that they’re 2 minutes away from a hospital. Weather slightly improving. Anything is better than snow that we got on Friday.

    1. I could not believe that snow pic. The weather is kind of messed up, isn’t it? We are supposed to get 90 degree temps here this week. Some of our beaches opened, which was a dumb move, so with this 90 degree weather I’m sure crowds will flock there this week.

I hope Kim’s sister and mom continue to have manageable symptoms and that they won’t need to head to the hospital.

  5. I’m trying to visit a few new-to-me book blogs this week to see how others are coping with all that is happening right now. Strangely enough, I’m finding that many of us are still finding it hard to concentrate on our reading despite the “extra” reading hours we now have.

I recently read “Station Eleven” and have been looking forward to “The Glass Hotel” ever since I heard about it. No joy yet, but I’m hoping to get hold of a copy at some point.

  6. I’m doing well! Not sick! Mainly I’m worried about my loved ones and doing my best not to imperil them (or anyone) in any way. I am watching Black Lightning on Netflix and rereading Fingersmith, and both of those things are very pleasing to me.

  7. Is that the view outside your home window? Is the backyard? Park? Looks gorgeous! I agree that a beautiful weather makes everything tolerable, maybe even great! I’m also getting an itch to read more books so hopefully I have a good reading week.

  8. I’ve been enjoying our online church a lot more than I thought I would. I will admit though that I’ll be so happy to be back to normal in that regard. Pretty picture you shared. Yes, that blue sky – very hopeful. Hope your week goes well and please take care!

  9. Hi Ti — did you see the One World Concert last night on TV? It was pretty good. Definitely a bright spot of the week. I’m glad your family is doing all right & are healthy. The weather here this week will reach the 60s! wow. It’s spring ! have a safe week.

    1. I totally forgot about the concert. I got sucked into a Netflix show, SAFE by Harlan Coben which is so riveting I nearly watched all the episodes straight through. That is why I missed the concert. I’ve been seeing clips here and there on the news though.

  10. I need to get into a book, but having a hard time doing so. I’ve been listening to my friends read poetry online mostly. That’s been a good escape. Billy Collins reads as well and so does Patrick Stewart — at least for National Poetry Month.

    1. Are there any classics you’ve always wanted to read? Now would be a good time. I’ve been thinking about that myself.

  11. My comadre (mother of my daughter-in-law) has taken up watercolor during this interlude! She has not painted in forty years. I’m so happy for her. I hope you try a little watercolor. What could it hurt?

I have been thinking about The Glass Hotel.

Stay safe and have a good week.
