Sunday Matters: Will You Watch?

Sunday Matters

I am not into football all that much but I do enjoy the Super Bowl. No big parties for us. I will make food and we will camp out on the couch and enjoy it. I love the commercials although there haven’t been any great ones in recent years. I also enjoy the half time show.

Right Now:

I’ve got student ministry this morning but then it’s Super Bowl time. While I’m there I will let my Crock Pot work its magic. Chili and simple finger foods. Gotta work some veggies in too.

This Week:

My daughter decided NOT to do The Little Mermaid. i was kind of shell-shocked by the decision but proud of her too. She realizes she has too much on her plate and wants to zero in on some things she’s put aside lately. Plus, she is still in Godspell so theatre is still there just not TWO shows at the same time.

We don’t really have anything going on this week. Even my volunteer gig at Outreach was cancelled for Monday so I have that night to myself. It feels odd but good to have time off. I know many of you have known me for so long and know how I struggle with balance so this is huge.

I finished The Woman in the Window and will have the review up this week.

I am still deciding on my next read but it could be What Rose Forgot. I am on a roll with quick, suspenseful reads so I want to keep up the pace and choose accordingly.

Maybe now that I have some time I will be able to watch a few movies. I’ve not been able to watch much.

New Things I’ve Tried:

I tried this awhile back but forgot to mention it. Those Del Taco Beyond Meat tacos? Not. A. Fan. Weird, mushy texture. Like paste. Very weird aftertaste. Like way too much taco seasoning but full of chemicals. I don’t eat a lot of meat so I am all for meat substitutes but this version didn’t work for me.

Grateful for:

Real tacos with lots of cheese and hot sauce. Haha. I’m kidding. Well, not really. Who doesn’t love a good taco?

Will you be watching the Super Bowl? If so, what are you making?

  1. Fake meat is just not for me. As a vegetarian, I have no need for the taste of meat, but I’m glad if meat-eaters like them 🙂 Too bad the Del Taco one is a bust. Sounds like your daughter has a good head on her shoulders about balance; that’s a great life skill. I am not watching the Super Bowl and usually take the time to go for a walk or buy books when everyone else is inside.

    1. We had it on. I like the commercials usually and the half time show. I was reading a book while watching but the book was horrible. I think maybe, just maybe my electronic copy was not finished? It was a review copy but it was missing major information for me to understand what the heck was going on.

  2. Short answer. No. Watching Grace and Frankie. Never seen before although my wife said I should watch. Slightly longer answer: Possibly was going to neighbors, but we had no concrete plans. So I’m fine with this, wine and cheese and Grace & Frankie.

    1. Sounds perfectly lovely to me. I made really good chili dogs but then didn’t want them when the time came to eat them. Will have one tonight.

  3. I’ve never watched the Superbowl and probably never will. I worked this morning and had to go back for 4 hours tonight, so I’m relaxing on my computer and shortly will watch some tv and try to get some sleep because I have to be back at work at 7:00 am.

I want and need a day off where I don’t have to do anything! I can’t even remember how long it’s been since that happened.

Good for your daughter! She deserves a slower pace for a while!

  4. The Super Bowl was on, but nobody paid much attention to it. The Woman in the Window was a dnf for me. I wasn’t in the mood for it when my library hold came in, so I returned it… still haven’t gotten around to picking it up again.

    1. Oh wow, yeah once I started it I had to finish it so it’s surprising that it was a DNF for you. I wouldn’t say it’s a perfect read. That drinking bothered the heck out of me. Way overdone.

We watched the bowl and it was actually a decent game.

  5. I’m not a big fan of fake meat. Super Bowl was on and we watched most of it. I liked some of the commercials, but missed the halftime show as I was doing nightly reading with our daughter before she headed to bed on a school night.

We had some fried cheese curds and baked breaded ravioli….and some veggies.

    1. The commercials were okay. Nothing spectacular or truly clever. We had chili dogs and cheese dip but after some of the cheese dip I lost my appetite so I will have a chili dog tonight. I finished a really horrible book while watching the bowl. I skimmed a lot but man was it bad.

  6. Yep watched the Super Bowl — I was pulling for San Fran, argh! We went out for burgers & seeing it on a big screen which is fun. Is What Rose Forgot any good? Good luck to your daughter with Godspell.

  7. We’re not football fans either so we decided to spend Super Bowl time at a mall. Best decision ever! No crowds or lines to fight. I loved it.

Kudos to your daughter on her decision. That must have been a hard one!
